Do I need to play Wanderers from Ys too?

No, only if you want to. But if you're going to play it in japanese, it's good to play Wanderers just to know what's going on.

You don't *need* to since they are the same storyline/events (though Oath goes into greater detail). I'd still play Wanderers simply because it's a great game and worth the 10=15 or so hours you'll need to log into it.

10-15 hours? Have you even played Ys 3? It takes 4-6 hours, even for an unexperienced gamer.

I've played, but it's been a while. That said, I'm thinking back to my first play through of the game, which was a good 13 years ago.
This is of course assuming extra time should one get lost, die repeatedly in the Tigre Mines, (think 1-2 hours there). Spend a good 3 or so hours in the Alcano Ruins (especially in the fire area if one charges in there underleveled or underequipped), throw in an other hour or two on Mt. Seko, again if underleveled, with another two or so getting through Valestein Castle. The Island can also tack on another hour or more of gameplay, especially if one gets lost and misses the turn off to get through. Finally, add another hour of constant trying to beat the big bad at the end and timing/throwing in the right jumps- and you can easily get 10 hours on a first play through.
