I can almost guarantee that it will never get finished and released.

Sorry, no offense intended. I just thought you were still using Nightwolve. It's good to hear you have another programmer with the same will as you.

And we're totally not looking forward to SC, because I'm sure that it not only has a bigger script, but a freakin' massive lexicon of technobabble, which is what I'm terrible with. XD; Alerith has described the scene before the final battle in SC as 'He opens his mouth and my Japanese dribbles out my ears.' XD; You're scaring me now ;_; Is it really that hard? I've just about managed to get through to chapter 2 of FC so far (looking up a whole lot of vocab and being puzzled by the odd bit of grammar, I admit) understanding the vast majority of stuff, and there's yet to be a scene where I didn't at least get the gist of what happened, but is it really going to spike that badly? Oh well, everything's practice I suppose. Still looking forward to the patch anyway though, it'll be nice to be able to play in full screen happily without having to look things up all the time. Falcom fans are used to being patient for patches anyway, and it's worth it for quality. Which, by the looks of it, is what we're going to get. More people need to experience Olivier.

I just gotta say that this new translation project has made me really excited and has also caught me off guard as I never expected something liek this to happen. I hope something good will come out of your hard work. Good luck!

I have to wise from my grave for this.
I'm not even joking.. I actually started a new game of Xanadu Next yesterday before seeing this thread. I was verifying that all my games worked on Vista and when I booted Xanadu Next.. the sexually delicious soundtrack drew me in (that opening song is pimp) and decided to give it another run. I honestly couldn't care less about the Ys games in coming out in English.. but something about Xanadu Next makes me think (or hope) that it goes above the typical anime tripe that infests Japanese RPGs like a rancid social disease.
Anyway, what I wanted to say is that I have donation money ready to give away to Wyrdwad and Rasqual if something happens with Xanadu Next. Please don't let this money go to coke and whores.

That's great news Tom, please keep us updated. I'll keep an eye on the site again to see if anything comes from it. For what it's worth I can offer what little help I can including script editing or play testing. If nothing comes of it, I'd have to force you to give me at least a summary of the tablets and scrolls (you mentioned before that the meat of the story is there anyway).

Ooh, very nice. Glad to see everything's still going smoothly, really looking forward to being able to play it in English when it's done (along with being able to force everyone who I've been tempting with it since I started playing FC to buy it >_>) Finally scrounged enough time to finish FC a couple of days ago and moved straight onto SC yesterday (just at the start of Chapter 1). It definitely does seem a fair bit more difficult when Estelle isn't around, probably because everything's getting a fair bit more cryptic now (and Kevin's accent doesn't help matters either). Still, no going back now. Loving it so far, especially since the last few hours of FC when the plot really picked up. And I love the villains. And the music. And the main characters without exception. Not really a spoiler but just to be sure... (highlight to read) Weismann is... creepy in the extreme. Seriously, the whole aura he gives off mixed with his portrait art and pretty much everything he says just adds up to make him of those few villains that you can understand why people would be afraid of them. Which is a good thing of course. I'm not sure what to expect from the others on the site, but I'm definitely impressed so far.All I'll say to people waiting for the patch is - you're going to love it. And cry with agony after playing FC while waiting for the SC patch

Is that going to be your motivation to finally finish FC then wyrdy? I'm sure whatever you came up with would be much more pleasant to read than the pure, undiluted evil that is Kansai. God. Kevin's accent. I'm really not looking forward to that. XD;; But yes. FC is a 'pretty slow to pick up' game, but it's doing a LOT of setup in the first bits. I didn't actually really get caught until the end of chapter 1 when Estelle and Joshua get that package from their dad. And yes. The villains are fantastic. And I'd so totally respond to your spoiler stuff, but I don't know the code to use for it. XD; Most of us who are translating the game can't handle some dialgoue he has later in the game, because it's /very difficult/. Big time, hi-tech stuff and whatnot. XD;; SC's going to be a far more difficult game to translate, due to technobabble, and accents (I'm looking at you, Kevin). -it's also got script variations due to your party. Which means there will be variations of scenes, and augh. Also- for those people crying in agony, suck it up. I got FC on release and had to wait for SC's release to know the continuation. XD;; (Just kidding, really. I'm sure we'll do our best to get it out asap.) Yeah it seemed to pick up at the chapter ends, then go back down again for the next chapter - but then when you get to the end and look back you realise why it was all necessary - character introductions, the army, the role of the Intelligence Bureau etc. And really, thanks to the characters none of it was boring anyway - Estelle is inherently lovable, there's never a dull moment with Olivier on screen, Tita is take-it-home adorable... and I could go on, but I won't. But yeah, it seems to be at its peak when the plot is going at full force, which is why I'm expecting big things from SC by the end, which it seems to be delivering on so far. Kinda scared of how complicated it's going to get seen as I'm positive I'm not as good as those translating the game, but hey, the more you manage to get your head round hard stuff the easier anything below it becomes, right? More spoilers for FC and SC: I was so glad I could just sleep after FC, get up and get straight into SC after that ending. It wasn't even the kind of cliffhanger I was expecting either, the final scene with Estelle and Joshua just made me feel kind of... empty. Especially with the music. And Estelle's portraits near the end. I can't help but wonder if and when players at the time twigged they weren't going to resolve all this in one game - in ways the ending seemed like it was going to conclude (there is a villain, a final dungeon and such with a seemingly happy ending in the festival, though there were those unanswered questions still lingering... then Weismann's showed up and gave you a whole load more shortly followed by the trailer for SC, heh. Just up to where you first meet Renne in Chapter 1 now, I like her already, really looking forward to her letting her true colours out further down the line. And joining in the 3rd. Kinda wish I could wipe the things I picked up before playing FC out my head, but oh well - at least I didn't spoil too much. Suppose that's the advantage of playing them when they first came out.And now I have to go play some more >_>

Floofy, since I'm not sure if you saw I sent you a PM, I'll use the public topic : I was wondering if you were looking for translating help on the project.

I'd just like to wish you all the best of luck with this project. Getting through the game was a struggle for me without knowing Japanese, but I still loved it. Your translation would definitely inspire me to play through it again. Right now I'm working on SC, and hope I can finish it soon.

Heh, thanks for the offer. Rest assured I won't be bugging you unless I really need it though (which hopefully I won't, but we'll see as things go on.) You really know how to make people play on though, I'll tell you that much Not that I need that motivation, been wanting to play this game for a long time now and I couldn't be happier I finally can without taking 7 hours to get to the battle tutorial like last time I tried a long while ago. Just finished chapter 1 now and moving onto chapter 2 - weekend, ohhh yeah. The beauty debate was hilarious. Seriously, I wasn't sure what to expect from Blueblanc (or Bleublanc, or whatever it's really supposed to be - Blblanc looks terrible) but I laughed pretty damn hard at that. Soon as he started speaking I was waiting for Olivier to chime in, and he didn't let me down. GMF, how far in are you anyway? Seem to remember you starting SC right after it came out too. Don't think I could've got through FC without understanding any of it, the frustration would've made me give up pretty quickly. Playing Origin was bad enough.

GMF, how far in are you anyway? Seem to remember you starting SC right after it came out too. My progress isn't great, only about 5-6 hours of playtime, but I was doing good, attempting to do it alone again without a walkthrough. You're right, I started playing SC right when it came out. Then I stopped and let it sit around for a long time. I have decided to use a walkthrough for the rest of the game to make it easier on myself. freakman filled me in on a lot of the specific story details after I finished FC.

Then I stopped and let it sit around for a long time. I have decided to use a walkthrough for the rest of the game to make it easier on myself. freakman filled me in on a lot of the specific story details after I finished FC. Yeah. It's a shame xcomp's guide is extremely lacking at times (generally whenever something important happens - I was planning to consult it originally just to check I was getting things right, but it mostly seems to cover the easy stuff and ignore any cryptic and/or generally important stuff.) so eventually gave up. Oh well. Anyway, just finished chapter 6. Spoiler time! I love this game. I think I've left it too long to even know where to start commenting on it, because too much awesome stuff has happened. The whole dragon chase was awesome. All the Agate/Tita scenes were awesome. Everything on the Glorious was awesome. Joshua and Estelle's reunion was beautifully handled, as was all Joshua and Leonhardt's backstory and such (Confession is a gorgeous tune. Seriously). And that's just the recent stuff! I can't imagine how awesome it's going to get from here, although woe unto me I now have a cold which is likely to get worse before it gets better, and I have a feeling I'm about to plunge head first into Weismann's crypticness. Time to throw lemsip down my throat at a rate previously unknown to mankind.
It's kind of depressing though... is it normal to really not want to kill Leonhardt? I just can't muster the will to hate him. At all. I think it's a mix of his tragic past and that look in his eyes which shows it. He really does look lonely :/ I'm kind of looking forward to finally getting to take on the others (especially Walter. He's just asking for it) but... yeah. Plus the ending... well, I've been playing FC since January, and it's now late February, and I probably won't be done with the 3rd until some time in March... damn it's going to be depressing when this is over. Guess I'll distract myself by studying incessantly until Legend of Heroes 7 comes out.If you do get to the point where you need testers or whatever I'd be more than happy for the excuse to play it through again, heh.

Just to tell you guys this (most of you know anyway ), I found this: www.swordbreaker.com/ed6/How about the next generation of translators (Doppiapunta, Altima, Wyrdwad, etc) team up and help out with this project? Perhaps we would finally see some English in SNK...

I can't believe I'm asking but, is it even at all practical to play this trilogy without fluency in Japanese? I'm sure I could figure out the battle system gameplay quickly but since these titles in particular are so heavy on the story I imagine it's practically like missing half (or more) of the game?
