While I've heard that they are not all that wonderful, I'd really like to try and play through the Taito Ys III, Ys IV and Ys V PS2 games starting with the Wanderers from Ys remake. I've been looking around, but it seems like most of them are around $40-$55 before shipping. I'm wondering if there are places where these can be purchased a little cheaper or if someone is looking to sell their own use copies for a reasonable price.

These games will never decrease in price at all. Why? Because Taito sucks!
I say beware! Stay far, far away from these horrible games. These games are made entirely out of hate. Hate for Ys. Just "trying" them will drive you insane, and the hate will absorb you for all eternity.
Easily the worst games ever made in the history of time, and I'm not exaggerating!
Although Ys III is pretty neat. Definitely not worth the money though.

Surely they can't be that bad right? At least it has to have remixed music from the series and nice looking visuals and at least moderate to half-way decent gameplay, no? lol ^_^
What makes them so bad that they aren't worth playing?

Thanks for letting me know about them. I'd definitely be interested in Ys III at least, but if I can figure out a way to get the others cheap, it'd still be worth trying them out someday. Hopefully they will go down in price over time.

The main reason I can't stand those games is the gameplay - I've seriously never played anything worse. Walking feels exactly like moving a cursor around on the screen. It would fit great on the Wii. The graphics are the worst I've seen on PS2 and the music is of extremely poor quality. Terrible to listen to, not because of the sound quality but because the songs themselves are crap (which is NOT the case with the original music - they seriously screwed this up).

Thanks. I'll consider getting just the Wanderers From Ys for now and avoid the others until perhaps they get to be really cheap one of these days.
Both your descriptions of IV and V sound like the games are pretty awful and surely not worth the amount they are asking for. : )

So far, the Ys III version I liked the most. (Note I didn't play OiF yet, I'm waiting for the patch). Taito's Ys IV and V are bad. They AREN'T easily the worst game ever, in my oppinion. They are games which suck quite a lot, but has its good points as well. Though I still don't recommend you spend much money on them. So, fight for a PS2 Ys III copy. = ) And I really enjoyed most songs of this version (they fit the game very well, I thought). As for a place to order them, I don't know any other site than Amazon, eBay and such. Sorry I couldn't help you there. =/

does the ps2 remakes have any cgs ?? No, but they do feature some slideshows with bad background music and voice acting. Beware though, as these games feature some of the worst "art" work ever produced. Everything about these games are shit.

I bought Ys III for PS2 for 2000 Yen at BookOff in Japan (large 2nd hand games/anime/manga/cd store chain).
2000Y is approx. US$16
