Well maybe some of you know that. There are many great music in that game. Something strange now : the boss of lava's music is fantastic, but seems quite same" as Malmsteen's "far beyond the sun". (quite ? hum...)
So did JDK copy it ? (the song appears in 1984 in rising force's album...) Right malsteen is famous in japan, but still...

Yes. It's a rip-off of Yngwie Malmsteen's "Far Beyond the Sun." It's pretty fun to listen to them both at the same time. Hehehe. They are alarmingly similiar!

So that's it. Seldane, I remember on the old Yngwie 's webpage, a fan asked him about that, and he replied it didn't know anything. anyway, it's really good. is this on the mask of sun too ? if so, is it in the PS2 version ?

Yes, I remember that too. They didn't really know anything about the Ys IV song.
It's in Mask of the Sun, but not in the PS2 version.

wow, u know whats wierd? I downloaded a music track from somewhere a long time ago (way before i knew about Ys) and it was called "malmsteen castlevania remix". I realy liked it and I always beleived it to be a remix of a castlevania song no one's heard of by some guy from Europe... So now i played Ys IV and heard the same song, but different. I thought that whoever named the mp3 i downloaded didnt know much about Ys and just named it castlevania cuz it sounded similar. but i never was able to find a version of the music that sounded the same as the one i found long ago. now i find this thread... did they realy do that? well its a good thing they did because it's one of my most favorite tracks in a Ys game. its odd to because the music always sounded very european to me and a bit out of place in the game. It actualy did sound like something you'd hear in a castlevania game than an Ys game... even though the person who named the mp3 i downloaded realy did name it wrong, slightly. BTW: i remember it being in Dawn of Ys and not Mask of the Sun. Im not too sure if its in Mask of the Sun or not, but im sure it's in Dawn of Ys as it was extreamly memorable. ...i gotta go find some more mamlsteen music

Well guy, if you really like the music, go and buy Malmsteen's rising force... That man (genius ? at least virtuose.) is fantastic.

www.yngwie.org/LOL... u know what? I remember in a trailer for Ys VI PC that they showed the Falcom JDK band preforming (live??) and one of the guitarists looked exactly like malmsteen! u can sense quite an influence and it hasnt been mentioned here yet, but the music from Ys IV that you're refering to that sounds like Malmsteen's song is called "The Great Ordeal". And if i remember correctly, in Dawn Of Ys it was played during more than one of the boss battle. Seldane says it was in Mask of the Sun aswell, but I cant remember where its used in the game. i need to play again (i realy wouldnt mind playing again ^_^) I just listened to both versions again now and I have to say... i think i like the Ys version better... it just sounds more "gamey"

Hi! In most of the RPG (and shooting games) 80's-style, the soundtrack is influenced by Speed Metal, and neo-classic Metal (Malmsteen docet...) Ys boss songs for example, or the incredible "Lords Of Thunder" for PC-Engine CD. great metal music! Gianluca

omg i like 80s music? i would never have though well, neoclassical is pretty cool stuff, and i realize that it does seem to influence a lot of the music in some of my favorite music (especialy Ys, Lufia, Mega Man (kinda... capcom tends to get jazzy), Super Street Fighter II (all other SFs are jazz or hip hop), and Castlevania). But personaly i think they give it an even more modern twist in video games and fuse it with other kinds of music like rave, electronica, and techno sometimes. Its taken a completely different route than mainstreme music as in the 90s the mainstreme seemed to have completely ditched the power and emphasis on melody/tune for empty beats and ambience, unfortunately. Well, thats the way i see it. still i think the reason i like neoclassical is because of the "classical" part, anyways. I've always been fond of listening to classical music. i like rock, but i love hearing softer or orchastrated music too, as long as it takes some inspiration from classical and is strongly composed. i wouldnt say MOST RPGs use it. Most RPGs tend to follow either Ys or Final Fantasy's style... and the later is usualy fully intrumental with less rock and more classical in it. I'd say 2D action games use neo-classical and synth rock a lot more than any other kind of game, since it helps give a strong sense of speed and tense action. and yes, malmsteen is a genius, i see that now... after watching the video of him preforming with the Japanese Philharmonic simply amazing. I could almost start to hear some great music from Ys being hidden within the music in that video, its realy wonderful. I bet it's probably the closest thing to hearing JDK preform.

Yeah, that song is in the original MOTS, when you are fighting Eldeel. I also have an alternate Dawn of Ys version of that song, I think it replaces the guitar with piano if I remember correctly. It was used in a demo of DOY. Yeah, you like 80's music, just listen to some stuff by Joe Satriani & Vinnie Moore, they're both incredible, though, Vinnie Moore is more of a Lords of Thunder style, Joe seems to vary more in his style.
In the PS2 version of MOTS, they ended up using 2 songs, that weren't in the original MOTS, but were the final 2 boss songs for DOY IIRC. Except they obviously didn't have the guitar in them, it was all PS2 synth. It's interesting, atleast, as far as we know, Yngwei never tried to take any legal action against Falcom, though, since it wasn't sold outside Japan, maybe he couldn't, or maybe it was different enough, that they were able to get away with it? It's just plain wierd that they did that in the first place.
I remember when I was playing around with sampled from different games, & my friend heard me flip by that song, & went nuts, & threw in his Yngwie cd. That was such a trip.

I went to Yngwie's website and saw all the albums there, and I wanted to hear them all!! I have only heard that one track by him we're discussing here. I get the feeling buying only game music for years has left me somewhat dry when it comes to what else is out there.

By the way -- I got that Ys IV demo with The Legend of Xanadu (it was on a seperate disc). That's pretty neat.

lol, we're all wondering why malmsteen never did anything about it, but do we even know if he knows about all this? maybe he never found out.... i think he would have said something if he knew.. blabla76: "Seldane, I remember on the old Yngwie 's webpage, a fan asked him about that, and he replied it didn't know anything." well... i guess that explains it. So, i doubt hes ever heard falcom's version before...

yeah, they're fans alright, on more than one acount JDK: Yngwie Malmsteen: maybe its the hair (or maybe thats just the way all professional guitarists like to look) and if malmsteen knew, id think hed say something about it, but I also dont think there would be any trouble, ofcourse. Im just dreaming but maybe he'd want to meet up with JDK and jam a little .... >_>
