The PC engine version is easy. The msx one is by far the hardest (especially when you choose hard as difficulty )

Anyone know if the PS2 remakes for Ys III, IV, and V are being developed by Falcom, or is Taito developing and redistributing?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Taito is developing them, not Falcom.

It's not that sad, and who knows, Falcom may be working on YsVII right now. Although that seems unlikely. Anyway, Taito is developing these, but #3 does not seem that interesting. I wonder how #4 and 5 will look like.

I wonder if you can still scam out your levels by just chopping wave after wave of owls at the Ilvern Ruins.

Well...seeing as Ys III was the first Ys game I owned (aside from the recently-bought VI), it's what hooked me. I liked the Genesis version (which was surprisingly difficult to me first time through) and I have the NES ROM version, but only barely touched it. Suffice to say, I'm looking forward to the remake.
As for the leveling-up stuff, try growing to high levels simply by cutting up the bees and spiders at the beginning of the Tigris Mines (Genesis version, remember). Yeah...took me hours to level up really high. Suffice to say, I killed most of the early bosses in one or two hits...
I also heard that Dogi was playable in the Genesis version. Never tried it, but I do believe GameFAQs turned up something, if I remember correctly. I wonder if they'll make him playable in the remake, as either a tribute to such a rumor/cheat or as a bonus to the die-hard Dogi fans out there. That would seriously kick-ass so much...

He's not playable in the remake, atleast not that anyone's found so far.

Ha! I used to do the same thing in the SNES version. I still love the music in that version too.

I hear that the Taito remakes are pretty bad? Is this true?
I wonder if they plan a full OST one day. That'd be hot, if nothing else.

The OST is available right here in PSF2 format. I also converted it to MP3. Anyway, I think the PS2 version of YsIII is great - if not the best of them all. The Mega Drive/Genesis version is the best one of the old ones in my opinion, but this might just be the best of 'em all. I love the graphics, they are so beautiful. The music is pretty good as well (definitely the best music of all versions of YsIII).
I am talking about YsIII here - NOT Ys: The Oath in Felghana.

See, I hated the PS2 remake, for the simple reason that Adol is TOO SLOW in it. He's supposed to be fast as lightning, not a slow and cautious swordsman. No more rapid-fire sword-swiping, no more moving at 60mph, no more anything of the sort -- just slow, plodding gameplay. -Tom Have you played YsI? How about YsII? Or perhaps YsIV? Even YsV. Adol is slower than a 200-year-old man.
