Alot of people think they are anime otaku's. Seen about 1 or 3 series and say "Yes, I am a otaku". Other say "I got 219 GB of Anime, Yes I cannot be less".
But for one person in Japan, you are only a Otaku when you followed 200-500 Animes during 5 years and also read a heaftful piece of Mangas.
Personally, I'm no otaku - and WHEN I become a otaku I only want to know everything about the Mechaseries.

I'm perhaps an anime Otaku compared to some of you, but yes a real anime otaku in japan is much worse then me. real otaku's also make their own manga/anime (well we're trying to do that, right hansuke) but with it he makes the statues and other merchendise of his own created manga/anime. real otaku's also study anime/manga from one writer/producer and try to find their destinct features and writes about it in magazines/online website/forum...so I'm not a real Otaku, but for the west I'm a more then averidge anime fan I guess...but I also read a dutch and american magazine about anime/manga so I know a lot of series...

I cant add anything to what the two of you have said: I am also sometimes considered an otaku by others, but I certainly am not. Even though I like anime...

I am also sometimes considered an otaku by others, but I certainly am not. Even though I like anime... I think this is a problem what everyone has, who is more into anime then the averidge person, in the West. If you like collecting DVD's, statues etc. they say you're an Otaku without knowing the proper definition. an Otaku isn't a fan, it's a lifestyle, and Otaku isn't my life style...I'm also a heavy metal fan

Good said, but it is like that with everything. People just don't know / want to be so they say it but cannot stand for it - so to speak. You could just as well be a otaku in Anime & Manga ( & heavymetal ) and Ranpha could also be a otaku. Hell even I could be a otaku ( well, perhaps some day in the line of Mechas ranging from games - animes - movies I might perhaps become a Otaku ).

LoL not my own Gundam but a Mobile Suit, yes. If it works, that would really change alot of things we do stuff. Like lifting work ( trees example ). Warfare ( Yup, you guessed it ). and Water/Space/Planet exploration.

Except giant japanese robots that kicks the arses out of each other in space

Except giant japanese robots that kicks the arses out of each other in space I agree. Most of the time I spend dreaming... " And there I go again, I soar, Straight up into the sky. I hope to get away from you, And still I want to cry. My heart is pure, yet it is bruised, I cannot stand the pain. And you just stand and watch me die, And so it will remain. I stretch my arms right up to you, I'm begging for your aid. But you still push me to my knees, as I begin to fade... I'm getting weak, I growing small, My breath begins to choke. Yet all I ask of you right now, Is just a gentle stroke. The burning tears rush down my face, and all I see is black. Still, all I think about is love: emotion that you lack. I look up at you one last time, but I just see your grin, My fragile wings then disappear, It all begins to spin... I'm falling deep, I'm falling fast, Straight into nothingness. And all I wish I felt right now, Is just your sweet caress... " I have no idea why I posted this here, in the Otaku thread. Oh well. Deal with it! xoxo Rika

Hey, nice poem muchacho , well written!
as for the giant robots, that would be a blast - although.... I think id rather fight on land - if you had to eject in space youd be FUCKED
I am as far from an otaku as you can get , ive probably only seen a total of 20 animes.

fuckED ey? Well ofcourse in space you would have a more manuvrable space suit but if you'd ejected in space your cockpit would fly away You understand? Also you could just use the spacesuit and jump straight away towards a ship or so in hope that someone doesnt "fly" you over or "crush" you litteray with their robotic hands. That would be very painful...
