I always wondered if anyone here is a fan of the original Dirty Pair. Of course there's not really any thought provoking story to it, just a lot of action and stuff blowing up. It's still my favorite anime of all time, and I can't remember ever seeing a discussion about it here. As for Dirty Pair Flash, I have seen them, but I just can't get into it. Project Eden is my favorite when it comes to the DP movies . I tend to watch only older animes like this, and rarely watch any of the newer ones. Here are a couple pieces of my DP collection:

I am a BIG Dirty Pair fan The 80s Dirty Pair I mean character design-wise. Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's original designs for them are a little to gritty while the 90s "Flash" is kinda too.... I dunno....it's like something was lost in the redesign. So it's all about the mid 80s version (was it Tsukasa Dokite's design?)^^ Anyway, for more Dirty Pair goodness, check this site out if you haven't already^^ igarashi.burst.net/dp/dp.html

Cool! That is a great site, I have it bookmarked. Yeah, for me, it's all about the original designs. The TV series is good, too. I just bought the movies again on DVD, with the OAVs.

Strange that although the movies and OVAs were released stateside, the TV series (including the OVAs meant to serve as the final episodes) is yet to have an English version. I also didn't like ADVs inconsistencies that the actors they used (especially those for Kei and Yuri) are different in the OVA and the movies (at least for some of them anyway). Hopefully, the Lovely Angels will get the treatment they deserve in the BluRay era. Oh and I watched Crusher Joe before I found that fansite to satisfy my thirst for old-school anime and the Dirty Pair cameos caught me way offguard!! Oh and my recent fondness for the Valis games (only found out about them about 2 years ago actually) involve my love for Dirty Pair too^^ PS: nice dolls you got there - would make a nice cameo in Star Fleet

Makes me want to check out the Star Trek franchise God knows why I still haven't after all this time You guys know a best place to start? Any one with postmodernism, politics, and philosophy touched upon seriously (like Mamoru Oshii serious?)?
Only recently have I realized that sci-fi is really the genre I'm most in to with fantasy and slice-of-life being a close second. Even thinking of joining the LASFS.

I liked Gundam Wing for the character and mecha designs & music but the storyline is just borrowed from past Gundams slapped together. But what ended up happening is that all of that was to make the show seem intellectual than what it really is - Gundam Wing is a show filled with boring, cold, and flat characters moving around showing off how bishounen/bishoujo they are. I still enjoyed watching it though (watched the series more than once actually). It's not nearly as good as the first Gundam (movie trilogy version) storywise. Going back to Star Trek (and this is a Dirty Pair thread SORRY!!), I just remembered that I did watch Enterprise and found it a forgetable and boring show with some questionable physics (yep those minor details are killer). Maybe the early Star Trek movies are a good place to start? I love old shows and find their "special effects" flashier and cooler than today's overused 3D CGs. Plus limitation in that department forces more focus on storytelling (like what Star Wars was). Unless somebody here tells me that those early Star Trek movies are absolute crap and lays out a detailed proof Now to (loosely) offer a bit to Dirty Pair topic, I read an interesting bit from Fred Patten's "Watching Anime, Reading Manga" that people wouldn't bother with cartoons made in Japan or in any other foreign country and quite a shame because that's not the way to look at these shows really - instead it should be called " animated science fiction" which indeed gives it more credit.

Dark Horse made their own interpretation of the Dirty Pair - only it has ugly "Western" (no racial insults intended) artwork!! www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=40-476Stick to the TV series, OVA, and movies Dirty Pair is mostly episodic (the ones I saw so far). It's all about that pure old-school sci-fi anime fun^^ BTW are there any Dirty Pair comic books that use the 80s anime artwork?

I like Adam Warren's art, but yeah, the Dark Horse Dirty Pair just seemed like a bad idea to me. I am almost certain comics have been made using stills from the animes, but I have never seen any other comics using the original style or looks of the characters. I have to mention the Dirty Pair TV and OAVs have great music too.

I downloaded the entire CD soundtrack (mp3) although I woudn't mind grabbing the CDs and delete my files And boy does the soundtrack rock Synthesizers, reverbs... that "cosmic" feeling of it all^^ Even has a telephone message voice track on one of em And I just found out that one of the novels (wiht Yoshikazu Yasuhiko art) was translated into english: igarashi.burst.net/dp/novels/novels.htm(scroll to bottom of the page)
