this is one game that really needs to be remade. Ys eternal should come with Ys Vi in some premium package when it comes out for console in the USA. Tho I dont think Konami has the rights to it... yet.

I have played through this game. The graphics are cool, but they have "shortened" the game. The mines, for example, they are really small. And the music sounds good, but it's still not very good. This version is cool, but not that good.

I was about to say that the proportions seem very different, I remember Adol being much shorter as well as the other characters. Aahh the dingy graphics of old ^_^ It's still not much of an improvement though obviously :\
That Dark Fact screenshot is horrible! Those graphics and colors..gah..mine eyes have gone blind! What were they thinking.

Actually. The Dark fact battle is really cool. When you see him, his platform will fly up in the sky, and THEN he will talk. And then that stuff that is under the platform will change colors and it looks cool. It's just that color on that very screenshot that might not look so good.
Well, I know, it is different. But this game is also old. It is from 1991.

Well...
This game was made originally by Dempa ( a small Programming Company, in Japan)
The items that make this version unique among all Ys versions are some songs, played on Zepik Village and on the Path to the Palace.
The Illustration that is in the opening, was made by Amano Yoshitaka, famous for creating the Illustrations for another blockbuster RPG series, Final Fantasy.
The Absence of Sidequests make this game short... and Yet, quite difficult. The battle with the bosses is paralelled only to Ys Eternal and Ys Complete (Nightmare Mode), in therms of difficulty.
The pics that Seldane provided are a bit misshapen... I'll take some pics using the correct ratio, and upload to my server, the songs that are non-existant on the other Ys I Games.
Regards,
Rodrigo#nosmileys

I did record the unique songs from this game, might as well upload the MP3s. They will go into the downloads section. Anyway, here's the box from Ys X68000, which is the actual name to this game. Front Back (with manual) Ys III for X68000, front

I really don't like this version. It's really ugly. I can't consider it as a real Ys

Actually, there's TWO different versions of YsI on X68000. One that's almost identical to the PC-9801 version. Also, there's a prototype of YsII that was never released. Also, there's the YsIII version. I've got 'em all and they'll all be added to the d/l section shortly.

Ys 3 X68000 is great, but don't touch the one shown above.

If you have played the english versions of Ys, there shouldn't really be much problems with the 68000 version. And no, there is no hacked version. As far as I know, there aren't ANY X68000 fan translations.. But maybe I'm mistaken.

What is the x68000? Is it possible to find a copy of Ys for it online to run in an emulator if in fact there is one?

Yes. In fact, all X68000 versions of Ys can be found in the downloads section. As well as an emulator.

you need an X number of posts before you get the password to enter the downloads section. so maybe the board doesn't show it to you yet.
