Magic Engine freezes right at this part!!! I guess it's getting me back for all those years of making fun of that cutoff. Any ideas? Cheers!

That's odd. Really odd, even. Hehe. Which version of Magic Engine are you using? 1.0 pr10?

Hahaha, good to know that wasn't just a glitch in my system!

I guess I'm not alone then! I'm using v.1.0.0 PR10, and I have no idea how to fix or get around glitches so I'll just wait for someone "in the know" to get frustrated and explain to me the solution! Not like I haven't beat Ys I about 42190857985 times.

Is this in Part I or II? I'm right now using PR 10 since i just got a better PC. Either way, I'm gonna be looking into it.

It's in the first part, right before you enter Darm Tower. Goban gives a little speech like: "Oh I have heard about your bravery, you're going to Darm Tower to find the book aren't you." Then he goes on and tells you the entry to the tower is at the back of his house.

OK, I'll look ahead for that when I play up to it.

I played this version a while, but I remember the game freezing during alot of the part with Voice acting in them. It froze for me at Goban, and it definately froze when talking to Luta Gemma in Darm tower. If all else fails you can always use passwords to get past that point.

THE ANSWER! WOOHOO!
Don't use the Magic Engine boot CD utility, instead you'll have to find the ROM for Super CD-ROM and use that with Magic Engine instead. That fixes the horrible PSG sound too.

Make sure you use version 3.0 or better of that rom. Other than that, glad you solved that one.

Ah. Sorry, somehow I managed to miss this thread before posting my question.

It took a few tries with different roms but I finally found the right one.
It was pretty frustrating. I'd collected all the items and reached the final dungeon -- and THEN the game decides to not work. And I was really enjoying it, too!
