While playing Ys III, I've noticed that you can't swing a sword, or block with a shield. Do you REALLY have to attack people by walking into them at an angle? Or is there a better way?

You mean YsI, II and IV, don't you? Well, no. Not really. But there is, however, YsIII and YsV (and YsVI) where you swing your sword by yourself. Perhaps you should test at least YsIII. The music is great, and it's in english. Plus, it's a sidescroller which reminds about Faxanadu and Zelda II a bit.

Ah.... You have YsIII for SNES and Genesis, eh? The Genesis version is definately better. But the PC Engine version is EVEN better.
Or which Ys did you mean?

Well... if we can't swing a sword, how do we attack? I can only "walk into" enemies to attack them, and even then, I still can't kill bosses. How?

Umm.... Why can't you kill bosses? It is done the same way as when you kill enemies. Only a bit harder. Do you mean the boss in the crater? You must gain levels to beat him, otherwise, it will be impossible. The enemies in the crater are good to fight with, you gain plenty of experience points.

Most bosses just need to be clipped as you run past them, either in front or from the side. Make sure you are never directly in line with them. If all you are getting is a clanging sound and you are causing no damage, it just means you are not levelled up enough to fight them. Oh, and make sure you get yourself decent weapons and armour too at all times - and keep a herb handy.

It does feel a bit strange to walk into enemies.... And it gets quite annoying if one does push you back into the previous screen...
