Didn't Falcom have some kind of beef with Hudson though, and that's why they'll never bother remaking Dawn. I think they've crossed it out of the official canon.

Right about the piracy... But about console to PC, it happens... I am still Playing Grandia 2 on PC (I bought it 2 years ago), game I finished on DC, 3 years ago. And moreover, I tried Ys 6 by copy, I love that game so much that I bought it ! Grandia 2? That is such a horrible game. They managed to get nearly nothing right. Too easy (save cones everywhere, what the use of the healing magic?). Too linear (do you really ever get the opportunity to chose two different paths? and what is the reaplay value whatsoever?). Great battle system (just too bad that one never have to use the items designed for the battles, and that really doesn't ever have to do anything but press the attack button unless one is figthing a boss... a shame that they never made use of the great battle system they developed, and that is quite obvious I guess when they released a gaiden which only focuses on the battles). The graphics are nice to the eyes at first, but could they possibly have made more repetative use of textures in the dungeons? without the compass, which by the way makes everything even easier than it already is, one had not much chance of orienting oneself). And, if one has battled just a little bit more than neccesary, to get to the end of the game, all characters will be maxed by far). Out of 5, I would give the game a rating of 2; it just passes my criteria of not being flunked and thus getting a 1. Anyways, back to the topic. I e-mailed Falcom quite some time ago and asked them if they planned on releasing more games in the veins of Ys I & II Eternal and their reply was something like "we will go on making new additions in the Eternal series as long as we think that there is a demand for further remakes". And, guess what, not too long after Ys VI were released Ys III recieved the Eternal treatment and here it is (and this even though there are another remake for the PS2 out). So, my guess is that we will see Ys IV and V remade in the future aswell. At least I hope so. I have yet to try the PS2 port of Ys I&II and VI and the remakes of Ys III and IV... but I guess I won't enjoy them as much as the Falcom remakes... as far as I've heard the PS2 version of Ys III sucks, and the port of VI doesn't at all make use of the power in the PS2 giving us a crappy framerate and rather uninspiring pre-rendered USA-ish looking cut-scenes. I'm yet to be impressed. As far as the remake of Ys IV goes, I still haven't got a clue what to expect. I haven't found that much info on the game at all.

And then - finally - YsI & II (probably "merged" into a single game) also using the YsVI engine. Oh, and by the way. Some personal opinions: YsIV for PS2 is crap. Grandia II is good.

Sarcasm is one thing, irony another and wishful thinking yet another. Being plain realistic, though, is what I prefer. I don't think that we have seen the last of Ys IV and V. Just looking at Falcoms catalouge, and their endless ports, remakes and everything, I'm just somehow not that worried about not having the "missing" games making their comebacks in the next few years. Though, your thought on the entire series smashed into one single game using their new 3D engine is somewhat disturbing. Because, that is exactly what I and a friend discussed a couple of weeks ago. Not being serious, of course, but just as a cool thought. So, like I said... disturbing... just because I realised how sick I am. I think I need therapy.

Actually, I wasn't being sarcastic. I'm completely honest.

Actually, I wasn't being sarcastic. I'm completely honest. Oh, well... now I am pretty confused... since sarcasm and irony are so extremely hard to handle in written form wihtout hearing the tone of the voice or seeing the facial expression of the one being sarcastic or ironic. So... sorry for misinterpreting what you wrote. But, since I am obviously pretty confused right now... what exactly did you mean? Was it a wish? Or a belief? Or simple facts (now, don't make me wet my pants)? ...no, seriously, I am going for the wish, at the moment...

wouldn't surprise me if they decided to remake 4 & 5 with 6's engine. After all, Square (I like to differentiate b/w Square's and Enix's properties) is remaking FFs (excuse me, "porting") like they're going out of style, why not another one of Japan's popular franchises?
Hopefully, they'll remake Ys 6 with the engine from Ys I & 2 Complete (sarcasm)

No. I'm serious. It's not hard facts, but more like rumors. However, it is extremely likely that this will happen. Falcom has made so many ports and remakes over the years - it's just bound to happen! Besides - Ys: The Oath in Felghana - Ys III ETERNAL?

Remake treatment, in the veins of the Eternal installments, was what aimed at. =)

Yes I think it is only a matter of time before IV & V are remade by Falcom, isn't that what the rumors are anyway? I can only imagine how awesome Ys V would be, with that incomparable music score.

Personally, I hope they rock out the music from 5. Listening to all the other OSTs, it seems that 5 just doesn't fit.

I bet they would add some rock into it. I guess they could only do so much with the Super Famicom sound system. Even on the Ys V Image Album the JDK Band tracks weren't like their awesome rock albums, which displeased me a little.

I think YsV has - by far - the best soundtrack of them all. Maybe even the best game soundtrack I've ever heard.
I just hate the FF-ish piano songs....

I think it is the one Ys soundtrack which manages to bring up most images in my head. If I just lay down, closing my eyes, listening to the music... it doesn't take long until I'm not in this world anymore. I see beautiful landscapes, environments and god knows what. So, I am just glad that they tried somthing different. The original OST I find good aswell, but just a tad limited by the SNES capabilites when it comes to the quality of the sound.

Why do you think they'd remake Mask of the Sun and not Dawn of Ys

Post by Gamemusicfreak on Dec 25, 2006 15:12:06 GMT -5
Since the Dawn of Ys is not the Official Ys IV, it will probably never get remade.

Hudson made Dawn of Ys, not Falcom.

Really? Didn't know that!
Aw well, maybe the remake will be a combination of the 2... But I'll be happy with a remake either way.

So FalcomĀ“s free to take some elements from Dawn of Ys when they remake Ys IV.
