For all of you who haven't discovered yet, Konami embedded a few helpful codes in their PS2 release of Ys 6. The codes allow you to change the dialogue to japanese, and/or play the game with the original anime cutscenes instead of the crappy Konami 3d cinematics.
I just sent a friend an e-mail with the instructions, so I'll just copy and paste it for you all. Here's how you do it:
Here are the codes you'll need to enter (once you become familiar with
the code-entering mini-game, these instructions will make more sense)
1.) First of all, start a new game, and select "Cheat" Then you need
to enable code-entry by hitting Red, Blue, Yellow, Red, Blue, Yellow,
and then the
center pedestal (hit the center pedestal with a downward thrust)
You should hear a chime.
2.) Next, select a code from this list and enter it. Hit the gems in
the appropriate order and then check in with a downward thrust to the
center pedestal. If you screw up, hit the center pedestal to clear the
slate.
Classic mode in Japanese = Yellow (2 hits), Red (4 hits), Blue (1 hit), Center
Konami mode in Japanese = Yellow (1 hit), Red (4 hits), Blue (1 hit) ,
Center (this one might be wrong, if it is, try switching the Yellow
and Blue.)
If you enter the code correctly, you should hear the familiar Ys item acquisition fanfare.
Classic mode is far superior, in my opinion.
Konami mode is the default mode, which looks totally horrible. And I'm
not just being "hardcore" about it, either. You'll understand. They
placed all the original anime cutscenes with disgusting, second-rate
3d stuff that reminds me of Wallace and Grommit.
Anyway, just wanted to make sure you had those because it's fairly
crucial to having a decent Ys 6 experience, in my opinion.
You can also turn the in-game voices off all-together and play it more classic RPG
style if they bother you, by turning the voices volume all the way
down. (duh)
But as for the cinematics, you have to pick either english or
japanese. English is default, and the voice acting is completely
horrible. So go Japanese. That's my advice. :)
Anyway, that sums it up.
Have a blast.
