Just asking cause I thought there could have been maybe a little more to the game like side quest/games. Even the characterizations where a bit weak. I think more reason should be given to adol to do these insane things. Just and opinion. I loved the game imensly though.

*shrugs*
Adol's never really had any character that I can tell. Truly told, Link from the Legend of Zelda series is given much more "character" and "personality" than Adol ever was. Falcom never really learned the knack, I think. But I love Ys for it's ARPG insanity, more than anything else!

Great comparison, wyrdwad. It made me wish I could play Oath in Felghana. Or was it PS2 only that he had speech? One simple thing I ask though. Do you think Adol knew the boat he boarded was going to be destroyed which would plunge him to the sea that will take him to an unknown civilization that had some convenient problem?

In Link's defense, only half of the Zelda games, roughly, even featured Ganon OR Ganondorf. Nice writeup, however! Thank you for sharing.

Adol speaks in YsIII (all versions). He talks a lot in the PS2 version, too (with VA). He also talks in YsVI.

Yeah, I know he speaks in Ys 3... that's why I said, "Adol actually speaks in Ys 3, but you wish he wouldn't". For some reason, Adol seems better suited as a silent hero. And when did he speak in Ys 6? I played the PS2 version, and I don't recall a single line from him the whole time... -Tom ยด He does speak in the intro (PS2 version). I must say the CG videos are quite impressive. If you turned it off, well, you missed something.

Yeah, the CG intro was downright EMBARASSING to watch. Not only did the character look awful, they removed one of the greatest songs from the OST... *shudder*
What the HELL was Konami thinking??

yeah i agree ^^ but I heard theres a code that allows you toohear the japanese voice acting and the original anime opening with the awsome music ^^ However, in the Ys anime, Adol does have a lot of character,mm from what I remember, The anime made Adol seem much more like a really brave human than the invincible perfect game character like the games. If you've never seen the animes, I really recommend it, I saw sides of Adol that I never thought he had, playing all the games I have it was, an awesome expeerience ^_^

commenting on the length of the game,
I think the game could have been a few dungeouns longer. I did like how they added the Crevia's Trial section. But I guess it was about as short as Ys 1 was, where Darm Tower was 25 floors high and virtually half the game. I enjoyed that game so much. FYI, I also check out Oath in Felghana at my cousin's house. It looks like a pretty good game. I can't wait to see the PS2 version when its finished.

The Crevia's Trial is an add-on by Konami.
I dont think there will be an Oath in Falghana for PS2...

I think this game could have been just a little bit longer, but I'm getting older, I don't mind the length of Ys games being short and sweet. It frees up more time to play the really long RPGs.

its not THAT short!! CERTAINLY not as short as Ys I, I can beat Ys I a few times in a day! However Ys VI takes a lot more time! The last time I beat it, it took about 11 hours, my first beating it, was way more than that!

I think 10-15 hours is enough. I NEVER finish games longer than that. I can't stand them. But that's just me talking. And I seem to hate games (for some strange reason).

20 hours? 15 hours? Lucky you! I finished YsVI in about 8-10 hours, and Ysf in 10:30....

theres only a few games that can keep me going, most after like 30-40 hours i get bored and stop playing for a long time...then maybe start up again, after forgetting the game exists somewhere in my drawer.

10 seconds? That's a LOT!! It should be MAX five seconds. I absolutely hate random encounter. The only random encounter games I like are Phantasy Star II and III. And they've got some pretty slow battles. In The Legend of Heroes II, you can see all the enemies on the map. At any time. Same in Grandia II (which is one of my favorite games ever).

I thought the amount of gameplay time it gave was pretty solid. I'm not sure if it warrants the $60 import price, but for $20-30 for the translated ps2 version is plenty of value for your money.
