Hi, I'm new here, but a long-time (since the TurboGrafx CD release) fan on the series. I recently got my hand on the PS2 version of Ys VI, and I've been playing like mad. Problem is, I'm nearing the end of the game, but I want to make sure I don't miss anything. I've been preparing to take on Majunun, but I've read that I'll want to be between levels 55 - 60 to fight him. I'm at level 52 now, and levelling is taking FOREVER. I have the Starlight Medal equipped, but this is still very tedious. Any pointers on the best technique to gaining levels? (At least I'm raking in the gold, so I've bought dozens of Seeds of Vitality. I have 765 HP. ) Off topic, I remember abusing Jira's Basement in Ys II (at least on the TG version) to level painlessly -- place a book down on the button to use fire magic and equip an idol, and you only had to check in every so often to go back to the statue/shrine to refill MP. That made levelling up doable.

I would assume the last dungeon has the toughest enemies that give you the most experience points. I was in the same predicament and I wanted to fight the optional boss but leveling up was taking forever. It seems to me you just have to suffer and fight the last dungeon monsters over and over until you level up.

Yeah, I also think the last dungeon is the best place. That's where I used to gain my final levels.
Offtopic: I know a better way for you to abuse of Jira's Basement in Ys II, though it's kinda similar the way you said. There is a certain part of the left wall where you can keep walking and every enemy that aproaches and touches you, it will soon be killed. Just leave a rock (or even a book =P) at the left direction of the directional buttons. Then leave the game turned on, then go do something else or whatever. xD I usually sleep, then when I wake up the next day and turn on the TV, my Level was already at maximum. ^^ Cool, isn't it?

The last level. I would just walk through the whole thing several times, and warp out to upgrade my swords as necessary. I liked those flamey guys. I used Jira's Basement as well, just tediously going up down up down up down up down for hours on end.

It's practically impossible to go past level 50 in Ys VI, as you won't be getting any experience after that. In the PSP version, however, you can play mini games and earn tons of levels very easily. I got to level 58 and was practically invincible against Ernst and the other end bosses (didn't use a single heal item either). Fun!

As I remember I was at lv. 60+ when I proceeded to beat the final boss, when playing through the Windows version for the first time... I can't recall that I spent much more than like an hour on leveling up somehwere inside Kishgal... (could I remember things so wrongly)?

Things might be different in the PC version, but I doubt it. Getting past level 50 in the PS2/PSP versions takes a lot of grinding. When I was at level 58, I got 1 EXP from each enemy at Kishgal (or something like that). Edit: Confirmed. I only got 1 EXP per enemy. Also: I was at level 56, not 58.

This would be why it took me a couple years to finish the PS2 game. I hit the last area of the final dungeon and then put it on hiatus forever and a day... because I needed to level grind... and I hated the music in that damn city. >_< I finally just forced it by turning off the BGM volume and flicking on a different BGM on the computer while I played. Slightly surreal experience there, but I got my levels... though I don't think I could get higher than 52 or so in any decent amount of time. It was sufficient though. Hey, for PS2 there's always "Red, Red, Blue, Blue, Yellow, Yellow, Red, Red, Blue, Blue, Yellow, Yellow"...

You don't have to guard them, just exit the first ship and then walk down so that they get stuck up there. There are no enemies there and they'll stay there until you go back and get them unstuck. You can beat the enemies freely.

Yeah, it's worthwhile to kill plenty of the Romun soldiers in the escape sequence before you leave. Guarding Olha and Terra is not difficult. I miss invincible Lilia from Mask of the Sun. Adol needs to rescue more girls that are impervious to attacks!

The funniest part of that movie to me was when the ship took out that entire space colony by just driving through it. Talk about crappiest defensive infrastructure. The virtual sleeping bag simulation you mentioned was a hoot though too.
