Ernst has the worst name ever. Ernst is a fairly common old-guy (80+ years old) name in Sweden. I've never heard that name in any other context, until Ys VI showed up. Talk about NOT being able to take that guy seriously!

Oh yes, finally finished off Ernst. And OH MY GOD does he have the LONGEST DYING SPEECH EVER. XD Was I not the only one just waiting for him to shut up and die already? The man was practically going into soliloquy!! I think he took a few hints from Buffy on that 'un. He also suffered from some pretty serious bipolar disorder in how he acted. First he's all "rawr, die!" then you beat the tar out of him and he's "b-b-but I just wanted to save the world!" I love the fight and the music, but Ernst himself was whacked in the head. It didn't help that I always associated him with Ernest. Of such fantastic movies as Ernest Goes to Camp, Ernest Goes to Jail, and other movies designed entirely around making twelve-year-old me giggle.

Well I had no problems with his name either Nothing to associate it with here, and his battle music owns so all would be forgiven anyway.

My only issue with Ernst was already stated above (the 'omg I'm dying so I better get all my repenting/bequeathing/explaining outta the way in one gigantic monologue!!' thing). But I blame the rasping voice actor at that point for the grating nature of that affair. So, how 'bout those eyes in the glass? XD

I wonder what Ernst and Geis' last names were, if they had any relation to the priests in Ys Origin. I'm pretty sure they're not. =P It's stated quite plainly in Napishtim that they're descended from the humans who tried to steal emelas workings from Alma-- which means they're scions of the Dark Clan (i.e. Dalles and company).

If you mean Ernst and Geis, I wouldn't really call them GOOD guys.... =P Certainly not Ernst, anyway.
And I think it got addressed in another thread somewhere, but there's no detail confirming nor denying if Dalles and company are affiliated with the Clan of Darkness seen in Ys IV. But logic does speak to the dark folks in Origin as being connected/ancestrally related to the ones in Napishtim. (I can't say much for Ys IV as I've played neither version of the game.)

You should play Ys IV (both versions, actually). But more will be unveiled once I can get my hands on the Origin script and set to work. Believe me, I want to. Ys IV and V are the major gaps in my knowledge of the Ys universe, and it drives me absolutely batty. I suppose there's the odd hope of some OiF-style remakes of either one, but who knows... Naturally, we all eagerly await your work on any Ys script you snatch up, Deuce. You do some amazingly good work. There's nothing necessarily confirming Ernst or Geis to be *entirely* bad either. Geis wasn't such a bad guy. He was just getting by in the world his own way (i.e. mercenary work). Ernst, on the other hand, was power-grabby and greedy. But he's still cool. =P Hehe. And it just wouldn't be Ys these days without the Romuns around to harass Adol, y'know?

Well, Ys V qualifies as chip music. I love (almost any) chip music! ;) Didn't notice this post before! :( And chip music? :D Do you like Commodore 64 SID stuff? XD I'm demented enough to have some of those things on my iPod ... Can't wait till the Spring and Summer! The car windows go down, the music goes up ...

After the events of Ys IV, however, I figured the Romun army would've learned their lesson; but yet they continue to chase after Adol, all the way into Canaan? He's shown their army before that he's more than capable of taking them on, and yet casualty after casualty they still hunt him down. To the Romun empire, Adol is nothing more than a famous adventurer. Sure, he kicked their asses in Ys IV, III (if you include the Lord McGuire) and VI, but Adol did nothing to affect the empire. It was always Romun armies trying to do something stupid (i.e. Sir Leo breaking through the temple of the sun and Ernst taking control of Napishitim) and Adol stopping them for his own reason. It is not like Adol presents a threat to the empire.

The car windows go down, the music goes up ... Totally! I love C64 music! Not only because I grew up with it, but because it is simply awesome. I had some Game Boy music in my mp3 player recently. It was great. Screw all yall Ernst haters =[ I mean, it's better than Chester. Hey, I love Ernst. I had no idea what his name was the first time I played it, but when the English names got out (I never bothered to decipher that Japanese myself) I was devastated! Well, maybe not devastated... but I was disappointed that his name was, well... ugly!

A side point. The Romuns are fairly land grabby and tend to get their share of the powermad. At the same time, I have pondered if they can really be considered bad guys (for lack of a better term). Perhaps it is because I wish to compare them closely to their Roman counterparts, but being in the Roman empire wasn't a bad deal if the Emperor was fairly sane and you were fairly loyal.

Well, in Ys series, most major Romun people we see are power-mad and cruel, which makes the whole empire look like a bunch of casual imperialistic jerks.

Is there a connection between Cleria and Emelas?

Was there ever a mention of Silver Emelas?

My wild guess is that ores such as cleria and raval are refined to become emelas. Or maybe they are names given to same type of ores.

Alternately, they could be byproducts of Emelas production.

I believe the one of the Tablas has a mentioning of a gray/ashen Emelas. I'd have to check...

They do. Gray Emelas was the results of humanity trying to produce White (or was it black?) Emelas and failing. If I recall correctly, Gray Emelas ended up becoming the various boss monsters around the Canaan Isles.
