www.falcom.com/yso/download.htmlThere are some tracks from ys1 such as TOWER OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH, but they are all arranged by jdk. I love THE GUIDANCE OF A WHITE TOWER, SCARS OF THE DIVINE WING and MOVEMENT OF WICKED ENERGY~ and you can hear violin staff in OBORO~ But I feel tracks of YSF are much better, i love yukihiro's arrange work~ Forgive my poor English

Awesome! I love this! Tower of the Shadow of Death is the only one that doesn't seem as inspiring as the rest to me, but I do like it. I hope the small sample doesn't do it justice. My favorites in no particular order are:
Movement of Wicked Energy: An excellent remake! It sounds pretty creepy at first in this sample.
Oboro: I wasn't sure at first but once it starts getting crazy with violins that changed.
Water Prison: I hope it is a huge dungeon, I can imagine playing through a dungeon with that great atmospheric tune.
Scars of the Divine Wing: Rules!
The others I really like, but these are really making me happy!

I almost wish I didn't hear them, because now I want to play it SO MUCH MORE. I can't stop listening to these over and over.

Cool, new arrangements of Ys I music. Its hard to get into the music though cause its such short samples of the songs.

Awesome, no clown remix for Tower of the Shadow of Death. That makes me very happy. I've never really liked the song but this "remix" was decent.
I liked the Water Prison song, but other than that, I think that all these songs are downright terrible. Worst Ys sountrack yet. This game hasn't impressed me in any way so far. Disappointing.
Seriously, this soundtrack is by far the most uninspired Falcom soundtrack yet. Nothing interesting at all, it's just plain, generic, bad muzak. Great for elevators, though.

I wish the bitrate was a little higher on these samples. I'll reserve my judgement when I hear the full songs. Nice to see Dalles' boss music remixed.

Well, for these kinds of samples, they usually take out the best stuff. And if this is the best stuff, I'm not going to be there when the full soundtrack becomes available.

THE GUIDANCE OF A WHITE TOWER This sounds like something taken out of an extremely bad movie. Totally not fit for any game, and really uninspired and boring. WATER PRISON This sounds like something taken out of Brandish. Some synth in the background, me likey. Overall a good song, but it sounds like it could be very repeditive. Ouch. OBORO I hate this. Typical... crap. I don't understand why so many Japanese games feature music like this. Oh and will you stop it with the violins already? EVERY Falcom game since 2002 has been filled with violin music, I've had enough. MOVEMENT OF WICKED ENERGY Why did they even make this song? Do you remember how it went? Of course you don't. It doesn't get more generic than this. Like taken out of an unusually bad b-movie. TOWER OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH I've never liked this song to begin with. Especially not the clown remixes in the PCE games. The original chiptune is no more than decent, and this one is too - I guess. I prefer the chiptune, though. SCARS OF THE DIVINE WING Typical geeky rock. This song is embarrasing. What if somebody encountered me listening to this song? I would be all like, oh no! And I'd, like, totally just die! PROLOGUE -Ys ORIGIN- A boring song made more boring. I couldn't even stand to listen through the entire sample. More electronica for the next Ys game! And please, put some effort into the music! Whoever made this music obviously shouldn't be making music in the first place. Not even for himself. Let Cipher System or Ladytron compose the soundtrack. They'd make it spectacular. And yeah, this post was intended to sound like it was written by some 15 year old teenager.

I agree with you Seldane. I dont find this soundtrack all that rememorable so far. I think the game itself as far as graphics and gameplay is going to be amazing but the music just seems so so. Well, I would judge better of the music if I heard the full tracks and the whole soundtrack but sounds average to me so far.

Seldane, you just need Falcom to do a soundtrack that the majority doesn't like, that's all Anyway, yeah, it's not as amazing as I was hoping, but I think it can still be good. Though, did I like Felghana's music.

You're starting to get me, Vurez. A bit off topic, but I found a folder full of Ys remixes on my computer (I stole them from Vert a long time ago) and some of those were yours! Really awesome! You're the one who should be making the music for the next Ys game!

Cool thanks Wait a minute! Does that mean no one else likes my music! Anyway, I don't know if I'd be able to handle the pressure of doing an Ys soundtrack. Too many people of would hate me if I messed it up.

No, I'm very serious. I do not like this music at all, I guess I've just gotten so tired of generic game soundtracks (because they aren't exactly uncommon).

Well that's always been my way of posting. It usually sparks some discussion rather than your standard "I like this" and "I like it too" posts (and discussion is kind of the point of discussion boards). I do have very "odd" tastes in pretty much everything. This has nothing to do with me having to be opposite to everybody else, it is just that I'm into strange stuff (always been). While I do not like Ys nowhere near as much as I used to, I've sort of gotten "stuck" in it. I still devote some time to it (not necessarily by actually playing the games) and I'm still determined to buy all of the games (even though I've been aiming more towards other old Falcom series like Brandish lately). And yeah, I'm not a big fan of the Ys music. The reason is pretty simple: I hate rock music. The chiptunes are good, although I am really tired of those songs too by now. I want video game music to be entirely electonic (like chiptunes, etc) - i e not trying to sound like "real" instruments. And I'm still saying this music is of poor quality. It is not to my liking, no - but this is not good music. Seriously. It is way too simple and just plain uninteresting. This music would work as background music during a heated love/hate/will he die? scene in some mountain climbing action drama movie, but nothing else. I've lost a lot of faith in Falcom recently, as their games are getting cheaper and cheaper (with YsO being an obvious attempt at milking the Ys franchise). I do not appreciate this kind of behaviour at all, it actually pisses me off quite a lot (Castlevania is another series that does the same thing). I cannot understand how people tolerate this kind of stuff (because everybody does) and that's when I make these "trolling" posts. Especially during days like these (I'm a bit grumpy after a hard day's work - I KNOW you're not supposed to post at message boards when you're in a bad mood - I'm sorry!). I admit that my posts can be overly negative at times. I'm trying to hold back, but sometimes it's not that easy. I'm actually a very happy person in real life. I guess I take out all my anger online. Wow, I wish I hadn't made this post. I don't like talking about myself. Might edit this out later.

Seldane, why do you hate rock music? The very music which we refer to when we want to say something is really cool?
I do have one gripe with Ys music that is sort of similar to yours. I think there are excellent themes in it and I LOVE rock music, so that element is up my ally. But I hate how everything is electronic. I like "chiptunes", but I do not like drumtracks that are robotically spat from a drum machine. I also hate it when choir, brass and in some cases strings are crappily done with synth. Why can't they just go all out and use real instruments in cases where they clearly want those sounds, like a movie score would? If they did that, a high percentage of these tracks would be masterpieces. Yes, there should be synth in there, but only where it works. My 2 cents.

Seldane, I think you just make comments like this to be contrary. The music is fine. I also agree with this statement. I'm not dogging the music completely though until I get full tracks and full soundtrack. Now is not the time to judge with just partial teasers. I cant believe you hate rock music Seldane considering Ys is fluttered with cheesy 80's hard rock and the music has always been a huge factor why this series has been alive and well for almost 20 years.

I didn't say synths weren't real instruments. To suggest otherwise is ignorant at best, manipulative at worst. There is no synth on the planet that can make a horn or vocal sound that is indistinguishable from the real thing. I love the use of synth when it is done right, not when it is a cheap alternative to instruments that sounds like crap. a lot of falcom music has this small weakness where a horn solo would be climactic, if it didn't sound like a fake horn. And almost all of the drum tracks are painfully synthetic, I think that falcom can afford a trap set, especially if they can have all the latest keyboards. If you look at their history, I really think they could scratch together the dough to hire orchestra. It's an investment. They could've saved a ton of money by designing 2D games instead of using expensive 3D platforms, but it doesn't make for a bottom line.

It's common knowledge that there are more of Adol's stories to tell (one more, at the absolute least). I should HOPE Adol has more than just one adventure left in him, no other character tops his extreme wanderlust and the way he becomes significantly intertwined in any threats from legendary beasts happening around him! Side note: I'm not quite feeling this soundtrack as much as the YsF one yet, but ill give it time. also the game looks fantassstic, but I DO love Ys so there's a teensy bit of bias there lol
