how do you break the pillar?, i am in the cursed area and you loose all your enegy quick. is there a way to break the pillar? like the first Ys game, i know where the pillar is but i do not think i have the item needed to break it First make sure you have the Roda nut for that area. Then enter the cursed area and RUN LIKE HELL for the other side. There should be a door that you can enter before you keel over. Probably when you get to about half health you'll see the doorway. Enter it and exchange with the Roo.

AFAIK, when you're playing as Hugo you need to break the tubes with the hammer. When you're playing as Yunika, Roo will teach you a tune you need to play on the Harmonica to get rid of the poison gas.
Game runs absolutely perfectly for me, but I do hear people are having crashes or performance problems 8(

Ok, just beat the game with Yunica and I was very pleased with the pace of the game. There are times you have to warp around to talk to people to advance the story but its mostly straight hack and slash up the tower. I think Oath in Felghana's end boss was a bit more enjoyable than this one but overall all the bosses in this game are amazingly fun and the best a Ys game has seen thus far in my opinion. The cinemas are excellent too. Wait till you see the last few.
By the way, when you beat the game it says, "To Be Continued" as if there might be a direct continuation sequel in the works. That would be awesome, especially if it came out at the end of next year to mark the 20th anniversary of Ys.
Playing the game with Fact next of whom has the pods hovering around him and makes the game feel like a shmup similiar to gradius now. Awesome!

It would be cool to play the game with a Turbo Duo controller and set the turbo switches on but two buttons probably just wouldnt cut it to do all the commands.
I"m playing with a PS2 controller which feels awesome!

I think the 'to be continued' means the other routes to be honest, as if to say 'there's more, now play as Fact/The Claw for more of the plot!', which is what you get. But yeah Fact is great fun to play as Especially when you get his fire skill - that thing is just awesome. And I use a PS2 pad too, works way better than the keyboard except for when you have to hold triangle to charge a skill while pressing X, that'd probably be a bit easier on the keyboard. It all evens out though.

I see, so once you beat the game with all three characters then the ending should say something different. Well, I'm shooting to beat the game with all three characters on normal. The gameplay is just so fantastic I cant put this down.

Alright, for those playing as Hugo... is there any special thing I have to do to cross the gap in the lava area that you have to get across to hit the switch to get the Roda nut? I'm trying to jump it with my wind powers on and it's just not working!

I've just reached the lava area with Hugo so I'll investigate. I recommend doing the dash then the wind skill because you pretty much have to get items the same way you did with Yunica. If you got it the first time through then just recall the method you used with Yunica.
By the way, Hugo is way easier to play the game with than Yunica mostly because his gradius weapon has such great range so you dont have to be so close to the enemies.

Yeah, I managed to make the jump. It's a HELLUVA jump, though. Now I'm stuck in the lava area trying to get to two of the lanterns. You know, the four lanterns that go out after you approach the treasure chest. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to get up to the platform you need to be on to get to those two. I forgot how Yunika did it!

That part isnt linear but I believe its not so bad. Theres a latern North, South, East, West in that area. The only thing thats hard about this game is the boss battles if you dont keep your character nice and leveled up.

Yes, but you see, the problem isn't the difficulty of the area. It's this damn jump I have to make. I got the south lantern and the east lantern. But the north and west lanterns require I jump up a ledge to progress through that part of the area. I can't make the jump! I won't go high enough!

Ok, I know what your talking about now that i'm in the area. Hugo doesnt jump as far as Yunica but I know what to do. When in doubt about a crazy jump, use the MASK. It may reveal hidden bridges you didnt see before.

Eheh... you managed to do the roda nut jump as Fact without using the Mask of Eyes? Wow. Pat yourself on the back, I sure couldn't. Managed with Yunika but it was as Fact I finally realised 'Ohhhh, you have to use THIS'
As for that ledge, you mean the low one above the bridge with the pot on it? That's definitely supposed to be done with a normal jump, I didn't have any problems with it... try jumping from different bits of it? I just did that today (just unlocked the claw at last, yay!) and it was easy... very odd.

Hello, I recently got this game and started playing it. I am stuck at the devil's corridor right now (the foggy place where your health decreases very quickly). I managed to get the hammer from the animal and bombed the pillar at lower floor. Hugo said something and then I went back to that place. But the health decreasing effect remains there. Can anyone please tell me how to get through this area step by step? Thank you.

If it's still there, go back to the pillar and use it in your item menu, don't just talk to the pillar with it in your inventory. ...if you've DONE that though, I have no idea what on earth is wrong. That's all you need to do, get hammer, go to pillar, use in inventory next to it, return to Devil's Coridoor.

Thanks. I realized that I had to use it in front of pillar. I thought I was supposed to equip it and talk to the pillar to destroy it.

Figured out the jump, by the by. Turns out there's MORE than one way to get up there. Yunika can jump from the pot in the room before the treasure chest... but the other way up there is actually in the treasure chest room. There's a small bridge to the north and above it is a platform with a pot on it. You can make a jump onto that platform from the bridge, the sides are cut out to allow for it.

ok. The Devil's Corridor is pissing ME off now. I've got a hammer, but what pillar are we talking aboutm what evil ring are we talking about, what leftmost room, and the only place in the fire area where you reveal a bridge with the mask of eyes is the one where all you get is fruit!
Yes, I know I'll groan when I see what I've missed, but still.
