Surprised we haven't got one of these. All the others on the music kinda died after everyone got the game so I figured I'd make a new one just for this.
This'll probably end up either general or off-topic but just to start it, what was your favourite area music? Boss theme? Favourite redone theme from previous games in the series? Any tracks you really couldn't stand? More than one is fine just so long as you're not just listing every track in the music folder >_>
I'd have to go with: Favourite area music - Hard one. The last half of Evil Core, Guilty Fire, Silent Desert and Water Prison are all pretty high, but I thiiiink I'll go with Guilty Fire. Mainly because it seems to take more willpower than I have not to tap my foot like an idiot while listening to that one. Water Prison feels better composed, and Evil Core Part 2 has more memories attached to it, but Guilty Fire is just full of adrenaline, and was perfect to follow up my favourite boss. Extremely close 4 way though.
Boss theme - Scars, duh. My most listened to track on the whole OST. The bosses were the best bits of the game, and even though I thought it might disappoint after watching that Velagunder movie, it didn't. That was just the low volume's fault. Track 22 followed by track 16 isn't far off though, mainly for what I associate them with.
Redone - Devil's Wind. Dreaming was great, but previous versions of that track like the Eternal one were fine as they were at capturing the whole floaty, dreamy sound. Overdrive was fantastic, especially the sound quality, but I couldn't help being disappointed when the whole thing seemed to drop at the 1:25 mark whereas the Complete version just kept going up... and up... and up. So both will be staying in my playlist. On the other hand Devil's Wind added that whole extra section, got played during one of the most memorable parts of the game, and was just plain awesome.
I liked them all though. Well, the clapping in 31 annoyed me, but otherwise...

There's actually a remix out there of Guilty Fire right now. I found it earlier, I'll try to search it out again. [Edit]: Here we are. Just click on that mp3 link in the post.

Area Music: Silent Desert is made of win. Enough said. The area is brutal but the music makes it ALL worthwhile. XD Honestly I like pretty much all of them... but second place probably goes to the second half of the Evil Core. You know, the remix of the opening movie theme? Yes, that's YUM. ^__^ I'm with wyrdwad on the Water Prison thing. In-game it suits perfectly, but I don't find it as listenable as music for its own sake, so... still, it's pretty. Boss Theme: Scars of the Divine Wing, duur. =P Although I'm also partial to the one when you're fighting Zava and whatever boss follows her. Redone: See Varion's answer. Devil's Wind takes all! They took a very simple, SHORT melody and pumped it full of evil cacophony AND added a whole new section to it that makes it even better still. Really good stuff. XD Second place for me goes to Last Moment of the Dark, however. They took a good melody I always thought received very WEAK treatment in previous incarnations, and actually made it SOUND properly dark at long last. Way to go. XD And for the sake of my own amusement, I'm adding a category! Event Theme: You know, the ones that place during scenes? =P I really, really do love that evil melody you get to hear anytime Zava or Dalles pop up. It's got a strangely nostalgic feel that I can't rightly explain. And you really can't beat the combination of tolling bells and slick guitar sounds. ^.^

Oh yeah, the Palace of Solomon revisit was nice. ^.^ Such a sweet tune. That other one is so very mellow and calming too...

Favorite single track: Silent Desert! I listen to it countless times a day, and when I first heard it I thought it was going to be a boss track. I was so excited to see it was a dungeon theme.
Second favorite would have to be the synth version of the opening, without the viloin. I love them both so much, but the one without the violin reminds me more of the traditional Ys sound.
Boss: The final Yunica battle music, which I won't name here, RULES!!!! Scars is second, with Oboro (Epona boss music) is third.
Redone: Termination is incredible! I like Tower of the Shadow of Death here as well. Once I heard all of it in game, the added parts make it much more adventurous. I think I have listened to music from this game every day since Falcom first put up samples.
I love the whole thing, but these are the ones I always have to hear.

Hmm, tough one. 16 technically counts as one seen as it played after the first Toal fight, so I think I'll go for that. I thought it'd play when you were fighting Nygtilger the first time I heard it skimming through the oggs before I got the game (the first bit would've worked quite well with him wriggling along the wall), but where Falcom put it was better. Second place goes to 22 for being awesome (though Most of the scenes with Zava and Dalles on screen were). I feel like I should give a mention to 24 too, which took me surprise as I didn't think one of the better sad themes I've heard in a while would come from Falcom, and the bits it played in were just Cheers for the remix too Vert Still prefer the original but this version's good too.

Brain cramp. Can't recall many themes for areas. Time to load up the Hugo's game. (I have like 20 saves or so -- one before each boss battle and then in other places. :P)
Hope this hidden text works! Highlight for goofy comment!
< Spoils! > ^O^! I just had Hugo run all the way back down the stairs from the final save point and Thor's body is STILL on the ground. He didn't disappear/turn to dust/explode like everyone else. D: (Well, there's a reason for that, yar? :B) Poor guy is flat on his face. :( < / Spoils! >
Area Music - Final leg of The Territory of the Evil Core (after Phantom Visual). I like the opening theme a lot to this game so it's only natural. :3 Oh, the one from the Water Prison is very nice as well.
Boss theme - Termination. Although the standard boss theme is quite good too!
Redone - The Roo doing Feena. I dunno! I don't really like any of them. ^^; In all seriousness, I guess I'll choose Termination again. :B
Tunes that ticked me off - the evil people music like when Zava or Dalles appeared. I also DO NOT like the BGM to The Territory of Guity Fire either. I think I played part of it with songs from my Winamp list going. Also! Moat of Burnedbless from Ys II ticked me off just as much. I could almost say I have an aversion to BGM from lava areas but the music from the lava area from Felghana was pretty good. In fact, I really like that one. :3
Edit: Upon listening to Devil's Wind again ... THIS is something that gives me mental images of a Magical Demon Tea Party or whatever. :P

Edit: Upon listening to Devil's Wind again ... THIS is something that gives me mental images of a Magical Demon Tea Party or whatever. :P *listens again* ...nope. No tea party here, and if it is it's when someone's stolen all the Devil's Coffee and everyone's mauling them trying to get it back.

=P The revisit of Tension was useful insofar as it made me want to kill the damn boss FASTER. Not that I hate the tune exactly, but uh... blurgh. It really was an odd fit next to all the other themes.
And I just remember one other 'redone' theme I kinda liked that deserves special mention and SPOILER tags~! ogg #35, which I've pretty much been calling 'Reah' (bah, Lair) in my tags since it seems to be her theme-- to my memory it only ever played in Toal's scenario when he'd meet up with her. Yes, it's a rendition of the Feena theme to some degree, but it's SO much better than any of the fifty thousand versions of that song we've heard. It's much more understated and melancholy. I love this theme. Every other Feena theme needs to go. x_X
Okay, kinda-spoilers done.

Oh wow, I'd never heard that one... and you're right. Then again, I haven't really had years and years of hearing it to get quite bored of Feena anyway, but 35's definitely the best version I've heard.
Tension... er, I didn't mind some of it as a track. It was okay for the battle, but there were a few bits that had me wanting to reach for the volume to turn it down a bit around the middle. I like the bit just after 1:20 though, the softer part. I didn't hate it when it popped up, but I don't listen to it much outside the game either.

I'll go ahead and toss my two bits in.
Area: Well, jeeze. It's difficult to say part two of Evil Core isn't just damn amazing. But there's something about Poisonous Blood that just gets my head bopping. It clicks with me.
Boss: Termination. By far. Ignoring the fact that Termination is the Ys song that got me started looking at the series AND happens to be my all-time favorite fight theme, they did an amazing job here. Really fits the fight and works wonders on its own.
Redone: I would put Termination here as well, but I'm going to have to go with Devil's Wind as best remade piece. They managed to take a 30 second song that I have always HATED and made it something I like listening to. That is a feat.
Event: Last Moment of the Dark. C'mon! Classic Ys!
