I started pondering today about the eventual soundtrack(s) we'll see for Origin... if Falcom does their usual Ys thing, we should at least see the OST plus one arranged album of some kind-- be it vocal, super arrange, symphonic, whatever. So... what kind of album do you think it'll be? And what tracks do you think they'll arrange for it? In addition to that, what tracks would you LIKE to see arranged, and how? I'm guessing they'll go Super Arrange again, since it allows them to swing between vocals and symphonic or other styles. I'm fine with that, provided it doesn't turn out like OiF's Super cheap Arrange album... As for songs? What I expect they'll do: we'll see some kinda arrangement of the opening theme. Maybe a vocal version. -_-; What I'd LIKE: I can't imagine how they could make the Silent Desert/Silent Sands BGM any better, but if they managed to arrange it and do so, I'd be happy. Hopefully though, we won't see them arranging any of the redone themes from the original games. That would be a bit.. erm... redundant, no?

Yeah, [Seinfeld]what's the deal with only 2 Ys piano albums?[/Seinfeld]Ys Piano Collection 2 mostly consists of Ys IV stuff, and we never saw piano anything from V & VI. It's long overdue. If there is a vocal CD, I hope it's JDK Band style. We also need more of JDK Electric Orchestra.
I'd like to see a super arrange verison with mostly rock, including at least Guilty Fire and Silent Desert, Oboro, The main theme, and Poisonous Blood. I would also love to hear an orchestra version of Silent Desert, just to see how it would turn out.

A symphonic album would be nice to see. Especially with some of the melodies Origin has to it. I'm with GMF on the super arrange of the territory/battle themes though. That'd be fun stuff. XD After the last Ys vocal album-- and the ones heard on the OiF Super cheap Arrange... I reeeeeeally hope they don't go goobering with the nice music by adding cheesy voice/lyrics. -_-; It's my prediction that they may do it, since they have in the recent past, but certainly NOT my preference.

A piano collection of tunes from The Oath in Felghana would be HEAVENLY. There are so many nice tunes on that soundtrack that would work VERY nicely as piano arrangements. ^____^
As for Ys Origin, um, well ... I really adore symphonic versions of soundtracks so I'd like to see one get produced for this game. :3
Or maybe they can get funky like Konami and Square and pump out Celtic flavoured stuff. :P Or maybe a Japanese twist a la VM Japan? XD
The possibilities are endless. :(((

And will probably be mostly ignored.
Agree with pretty much what's been said though, although I can't see them being able to make the rocky tracks any rockier (and they're fine as they are, really) and so taking a completely new approach would be preferable. And no vocals.

Sound Team jdk's always found a way to make rocky tunes rockier. :P And I agree 200% on the no vocals bit. I'm still reeling from the effects of the vocal version of Termination.
I'm not very well versed in gaming music but am I wrong to assume that Falcom is about the only company that's assigned vocals to boss battle BGM?

I don't know. I think those heavy rock tracks (mainly silent sands and the fire area) would benifit greatly with real guitars or at least a much more realistic fake. I didn't like the sound of them much. That was my main problem with the soundtrack. I know it's a little ironic for me to say this since I often use fake guitars in my music, but I guess I just hold Falcom to a higher standard.

All I've heard is a few tracks off the Zemeth CD and the Believe in my Heart on the Felghana Super-Arrange. I never want to hear any more. And yeah, they're definitely not the only ones. Ignoring the number of final boss themes that have vocal-like chanting and such, I think much of the Shin Megami Tensei series uses vocals in bosses/battles. Blue Dragon has (cheesy) vocals in its boss theme too. I'm sure there are a bunch more I've never heard, too, but it's not solely JDK's territory. The samples never bothered me much, but maybe you're right. If that's what the CD was I wouldn't complain though, providing it's done well. If it's not, well, it's just another reason to sulk about it.

I could also do without the vocal songs. More heavy rock anthems please.

I'd like to see a full-on symphonic disc, myself. That and/or piano solo arrangements. I can do without vocals, thankyouverymuch. I think that would be awesome. But wasn't it you who adamantly defended the drum machine and keyboard music and kind of scoffed when I voiced my appreciation for the more symphonic stuff? I think you also said that the AoN soundtrack was crap because it was TOO symphonic, didn't you? Anyway, I also think they should stay away from the vocals, just cuz I can't understand japanese, and their vocalists usually sound kind of wussy, which is anti-climactic.

Well, I liked the vocal version of Victory. :( But I always found it weird that Ys I ended with the perkiest, pop-ish tune known to the world of Ys.
And what's with all the accusations around here lately? ._. Can't we talk to each other in a more civil manner?

Lately, Falcom is trying to mark the new Ys games, by orienting their soundtracks... Ark of Napishtim, sounded a bit Egyptian... And certain Origin songs have a taint of celtic influence. Oath in Felghana, on the other hand, is strangely similar, on its arrangements, to the songs played by Vanessa Mae.
Who knows what kind of arrangement the next ones will bear... But I do hope that Ys I and II, if they're going to be remade (which I truly believe they WILL), they'd keep the Celtic influence.

Hmm.. a few things cross my mind when I heard AoN's soundtrack, but "Egyptian" was never one of them ("Mega Man", however, was... lol). I guess it just reminds me of islands and ruins, which was what we mostly saw in the game's setting, but that's mostly just for the music outside of dungeons and boss battles. If anything should sound Egyptian, my guess is that it should be Ys V, although I haven't played it nor have listened to its music yet. I haven't heard Origins, but I love Celtic (which is why I like TLoZ: The Wind Waker's music so much), much more than medieval (Castle Town from TP...), I really look forward to finally playing it after Felghana. I'm just happy with Ys as long as it sticks to the neo-classical synth rock that it always has. Needs more actual electric guitar though, especially in-game... i imagine a lot of my favorite music would sound a million times more amazingly killer with JDK going nuts with it.
