Not by me~~ www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/review/935850.htmlI could not help but notice that a score and critique of the story/plot was missing. Then again, I guess the reviewer is like many of us and are quite illiterate to Japanese. :3 Or maybe it's cuz it's an action game ...

Hmm, a little generous I should think. Especially in the graphics department. 9/10? What's he been playing lately? Atari 2600 games?

I wrote the review in the gamefaq and would like to explain. Yes, I know the plot but didn't put the category in review because Ys games are not known as much as for plot as they are known for great gameplay. All Ys games would lose points since they have streotypical hero-comes-out-of-nowhere-and-saves-the-day story. While Ys Origin breaks out of that circle, emo-getting-over-his-problem, cute-girl-saving-the-day, and I-am-pretending-to-be-bad types are just as typical (sorry for long words). Not very exciting but the gameplay is what draws the player in Ys series. I did mention that the details that were unexplained in original Ys games are present, though.
As for graphics, I gave that point because it mixes both classic and new atmosphere. While I was a bit displeased that Ys Origin reused many graphics from Oath, it would be very difficult to improve even further on 2-D environment. However, I do admit that my personal bias is present since I play both new (Nintendo Wii and Xbox360) and old (as Seldane said Atari 2600 and Gameboy Color) and many of my favourite games happen to be in-between. I hope this clears a bit.

Indeed but not even a wee bit of insight into the story? :O I mean, for the sake of those that don't know of Ysssssssssss. But I guess your target audience was for those already familiar with the series. And I think the graphics score is all right since the game really does look pretty if all the tweaks are on at a high res. :3 I guess I'm just easily impressed? ._.; Also! I did not provide the link to the review so people can pan the author and his opinions. >:E

Well, for graphics, I was just a tad bit disappointed that I couldn't find anything that blows Valentine Castle, Genos Island from afar, and the Clock tower out of water. Don't misunderstand me... I was impressed by the graphics.
I don't think my summary is wrong. I found these characters and their development to be "plain" as there are many of such characters in anime and manga. If you want, Deuce, I can write really long plot summary or complete story analysis for Ys Origin.

I don't mind that you think I don't know the story properly. Throughout the game, I honestly didn't find any complicated plot devices that would come as surprises (maybe other than the end of the Claw's scenario and different fates of some characters in other scenarios). Most plots were predictable i.e. Hugo's demand for power and internal weakness leading to disaster, Yunica proving herself to be a good knight, the Claw's true motive. Only thing I found remarkable was finding connections with original games.
Anyway, I wrote that review after reflecting on my experience of the game for several hours. If someones disagrees on any portion of it, he or she is free to do so since the experience would be different.

Well, obviously, that's why I excluded the story from the review. I know my plot knowledge is probably missing small details. But even then I should have had moments where I would be out of clue (confused enough to actually try and search for the detailed answers in this board) in understanding large aspects (events) of the game if small details were that important. That's why I consider this story "typical." It's just my high expectation.

Oh well, that is my impression of the game's story as of now. Sorry if that offended you. I will probably think more about it once official patch (or at least the full story analysis) is released.

Already added them to my favourites :) I don't use links since I go to too many websites.... Bookmarks are passe! :D I let the address bar/browser history do the work! Seriously, I don't have this board or any GameFAQs board bookmarked. XD I just type in the first few letters of the URL, select from the drop-down menu, and presto! I am here ... or there!

You aren't lazy enough. I have all my bookmarks underneath the address bar. All nicely abbreviated, so that they'll fit. Click!
