I've tried the no cd patch I've tried the update patch I've tried everything but nothing helps THis said I have the virtual CD driver "Alcohol" installed But even after deinstalling Alcohol it it still doesn't work PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME I'm in despair with this game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is what I can suggest: Re-install Windows, or Make sure you are in Japanese mode, I've seen Falcom games crash before because it was not done correctly. There's a couple steps I always go through to make sure my computer is in Japanese mode. 1. From the control panel, once you choose Regional and Language Options, click the Languages tab first. Then Install files for East Asian Languages, then click apply. 2. Next click the Advanced tab, you'll want to make sure to select Japanese to match the language version of the non-Unicode programs you want to use. Click apply again. The PC will need to be restarted, and should ask you automatically if you want to restart. 3. Or, as someone stated in another thread, maybe you need Direct X 9.0C www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/DirectX-9.0c-Redistributable.shtmlIf the game will still not run, I do not know what the problem can be. I have limited techinical knowledge with issues like this, but this is what has always worked for me. Hopefully someone else can give it a shot too, if this does not help.

I've got a problem too, i'm going through the opening and when the game begins when you see your character and then the game closes itself without an error message, it just goes back to windows, I've installed the East Asian Languages and set it to japanese but it's the same. Any idea?

Falcom even posted a disclaimer in their order site saying that they are not responsible for games not working in non-native OSes. That's just plain stupidity.

I can’t get this Ys origin to work. When I click the file YSO_WIN.exe the falcom logo intro starts with no music, after that I get the virtual c++ runtime error. Is the ISO bad? What is the exact file size of the game? The ISO is more than 4GBs but then I install it its more than 1GB. It dose not install the file called data.ne, what is that? Has anyone ever had this problem?

Errm, news flash here. Mine did not work too straight out of the box. And ALL my Ys games are geniune bought. Man, I remember the day the postman rang the doorbell and presented me a box with the words Falcom on it. I opened it up and there it was, my Ys Origin. I installed it straight away and I was excited and expecting to see the Falcom logo. I saw black, heard some music and BAM, I was kicked out into windows and I see this error message. Nearly tore my hair off then. I told myself to be calm, I uninstalled the game, rebooted and reinstalled. No patch was available at the time. Still no go. I was cursing and swearing at my new C2D rig with a Geforce 8800gts. I then uninstalled my graphics drivers, rebooted and reinstalled them. Still no go. I wanted to throw my lcd monitor against the wall. I calmed myself once again. Took out my windows xp cd and did the dirty deed -> I reinstalled my windows. I reinstalled all my drivers, windows patches and reinstalled my game. I plugged in my Logitech gamepad. I started up Ys Origin. I saw the logo, I heard this sultry voice saying the words "Nihon Falcom Corporation". I saw the menu, chose Yunica and started the game. It was then I swore my undying devotion to her. ...Ok it wasn't that dramatic. But basically that's what happened.

my first Ys PC game, Ys Ark of Napistim, I head problems as well, but that at that time I didn't know you needed to be in Japanese mode. from that point on I always install windows into Japanese mode directly, so I can't forget we're talking about 4 years ago, I was young

Oddly, I only had to boot into Japanese mode when I installed Oath in Felghana, which was the first Falcom game I slapped on my PC. Ever since then, all the other Falcom games I install work just dandy without having to resort to Japanese mode.
