Has anybody beaten it yet? I made it about halfway through Boss Rush last night with Hugo.. up to the plant boss and then I accidentally quit when I came back to it after a short break (argh). Dalles on Nightmare is maddening! Even if you know how to dodge his attacks they just come too quick and frequent and are SO much larger than before.
There's one that I cannot dodge at all though.. in his first two "forms" he's got a sort of pattern, he first shoots a spread of bullets, then a bunch of rocks, then another spread of bullets that turn and follow you after their initial spread, then a second bunch of rocks, then a spread of fire waves and finally and massive ice buildup. The first set of rocks he throws at you I seem to get clipped by about 90% of the time and in Nightmare mode with Hugo.. even throwing up a wind shield doesn't help as there's so many that they'll break it and two more come in.
So does anybody have a hint or suggestion? The second set is fairly easy to avoid by running horizontally, but I've tried nearly everything to completely dodge them. Hugo's shield did the job on Hard and it honestly doesn't matter if you get hit in Normal or Easy.. but every hit counts here, in a big way.

I beat it with Hugo (finally).
It didn't unlock anything.
Falcom is evil. ):

Maybe you have to beat it with all three of them to unlock something?
In which case, Falcom is STILL evil.

I beat it with Hugo (finally). It didn't unlock anything. Falcom is evil. ): Many players have already played through the nightmare bossrush for all the characters. They told me nothing happened after completing the nightmare bossrush. If you look carefully prior to beginning a new game in story mode, you will notice that the difficulty that you completed in story mode will be indicated by "clear". (This wasn't there previously) This has something to do with unlocking the secrets Falcom hinted in the Ys Origin homepage. I suggest concentrating on playing the story mode if you want to see something unlocked. I'll upload a video of the secrets in youtube once I unlock them.

Well.. on the plus side, beating the Nightmare Boss Rush has probably conditioned me to be able to beat the Story Mode on Nightmare without even breaking a sweat. On the other hand, I have a feeling that this is going to be like Gurumin wherein you're absolutely sick of the game (or at least not interested in playing it for a very long time) by the time you've unlock the supposed bonus content.

Ok, my video is up... Piccardon, The King of Piccards www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5n_OOvw3f8It's clear that Falcom did not do a good job programming Piccardon...so their claim that Piccardon is the strongest monster in the game is an understatement. An easter egg at best.

I hope Falcom releases another way to unlock the Yunica costume. By the time you've beaten the Story Mode 15 times is there really going to be any desire to play it again with the reward? It's even more ridiculous then unlocking Popon in Gurumin.

If Adol were playable in story mode, that might be worthwhile... but a new Yunica costume? Much less one where she fights with a teddy bear head on a stick and a giant steak knife? Uh uh. Well.. that's exactly what makes it so appealing to me. Even if the reward was Adol in Story Mode.. beating the game 15 times? That's just a bit much. Plus, who wants to (have to) play the game in Easy or Very Easy mode? ): Yeah, it's still optional (and let's face it, superfluous), but I still want it.

Actually, that way of unlocking secrets is flawed in this case because the specific file used to flag the difficulties can be edited out --- this modified file might have been in circulation already. Some players in essence were able to illegitimately unlock Yunica's costume around mid-March when Falcom was just sending out the CDs. A pity, isn't it?

Actually, I wouldn't consider that a pity considering the ridiculous requirement behind it. What's great is that I've been bitching about this since before Ys Origin was announced and the upgrade disc wasn't even thought of.. here's a post of mine from 09/28:

The requirement for the Yunica costume is insane anyway. I'd get sick of Origin much too quick. I love the game and all, but it's not enough for me to go through it that many times and still like it, especially if I can only read bits and pieces of it.

The requirement is just flat-out stupid and not worth it. I should have Yunica's costume unlocked by this Friday hopefully. Then probably me or some other guy will upload a short video of Yunica in her new costume.

And maybe a save file so we can all experience it. =P But then, that would be wrong in a way...Still, it would be nice to play it, even though it's just a model change and nothing all too special. I wouldn't miss it.

I wouldn't miss it. There's a save file floating around already.. I just used it to start a new game on hard with school-girl Yunica, saved, then copied all my old files back. That way I've got a new game waiting when I decide to get back to it and still have track of which levels I've cleared.. and eventually unlock it properly. But I can at least play with it without making myself sick of the game, hehe.

Hm, I wonder what I'd have to search for on google... You will have to look in Chinese BBSes to find the file. Or I can upload it to my webspace once I complete the game the legitimate way (by today or Saturday). It's the file that keeps track of which difficulties you cleared in story mode. I can't remember the file name (I'm using school's computer lab right now), but I think it is located in the Falcom folder that has all your saves and records. I'm also very sure that some people here knows how to edit out the file, but are keeping quiet about it. Hence, I emphasized that this way of unlocking the secrets is dumb. The ones from YsF and Ys6 are essentially cheat-proof, for you need to actually play through the requirements regardless. EDIT: Sorry, there has to be more than one file required. You also need the files that keeps track of what is unlocked in arena mode. or else you still can't use Yunica's new costume. Not exactly cheat-proof...but I suspect that was the case.

I was thinking about uploading the files to my webspace, but an idiot named ZepherEXE accused me of calling me a cheater with absolutely no evidence in youtube. That prompted a change of heart...so I won't upload the files and let someone else do it. I uploaded the video of Yunica in her costume battling with Duless, but unfortunately I'm pretty sure no one can see the details of her costume. So I'll try uploading the video elsewhere and post the link here shortly. I think I'll just stick with youtube. I'll upload the gameplay version next time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzz4h7iuGX0

It's a shame it's not that great quality. But it's not even a very attractive costume change. At least I don't think so. It'd be good to see the others get costume changes as well, but that's just me. >>

It's difficult for me to record in very high resolution in my out-of-date computer. So sorry guys. Yunica actually carries unusual weapons. Her axe is replaced with a neko-headed axe and her giant sword is replaced with a huge knife. It's probably easier if I posted some screenshots. EDIT: Some are in here. www.xanga.com/darkgaiachaos
