I'd say "mach speed battle action RPG" pretty well describes the Ys series in general... here's hoping that particular phrase is accurate, as I'd really like to see an MMO that's actually, you know, NOT SLOW AS DIRT. -Tom The speed is one thing that concerns me about it. I still have yet to get into online gaming. Even though it's Ys, I guess we'll just have to see. Not that I'll ever get to play it. Maybe the game could revolutionize MMOs. I do like those graphics. FF XI sure isn't just an Asian game, but I have a friend who said good things about people in Japan when playing FF XI, and he played regularly for about a year.

It would be wicked if this one was controlled with a gamepad with occasional use of the keyboard, but I read "mouse" in the description, so it doesn't look like it. . .

Trust us, we're doing you a favor by trying to guide you rom FFOnline.
I back up the City of Heroes recommendation, and toss in City of Villains for good measure. Both are good Beat'em up fun, with a surprisingly well-done setting. And this is coming from someone who despises superheroes.

From the interface, it loks like it's gonna play like Phantasy Star Online which would be most appropriate for a game labeled with the Ys name IMO. Then beef up the gameplay into something reminiscent to Oath of Felghana and we may have a winner. But if it plays like.... let's say Final Fantasy XI, then it will be nothing more than a crappy game that is Ys in name and in name alone.... much like Final Fantasy Spirits Within in the case of Final Fantasies or even Final Fantasy XI itself Graphicaly, I hope it doesn't end up looking like your "typical MMORPG". I dunno what's good looking about a "typical MMORPG" since despite those WOWs or Everquest seems to have fun gameplay according to popular opinion, they visually lack the imagination that goes beyond ideas of knights, elves, faeries, kingdoms, and orcs (not to mention ugly character designs). Anyway, you guys think there'll be an English version of this? Coz if it's a MMORPG, it'll most likely be playable only on a specific region doncha think?

I would honestly be shocked if this game would be playable outside of Asia (Korea). MMORPGs are often restricted to certain regions. I'm not excited about this at all. I'm not eager to play it. Sure, it is CALLED "Ys", but Falcom's never touched it and I doubt it will have ANYTHING in common with Ys in general.

My first thought when I saw the UI of those screen shots? The chat window and the F1-F10 bar are freakin' identical to the MMO I previously tested for. Anyone know how Westerners are perceived on Asia-only MMOs? Depends on the MMO. In general, there are contingents of people who are xenophobic and wouldn't play with an outsider, period(oh the irony.) For the most, if you can effectively communicate with the Asians and play their way, they'll accept you. From what I sampled in PSO, Linage and FFXI, the Asian way was ruthlessly efficient and brutal. I didn't see the fun in it while I played but I guess the nice loot and bragging rights afterward was kind of fun. =/ Back on track, if Ys Online is sticking to action oriented roots as opposed to the stereotypical MMO clickfest, I'll at least consider trying to sneak into the beta.

Point and click gameplay should be very outdated by now.
Haven't they played Phantasy Star Online?
Not to mention when Phantasy Star Universe finally comes out, all those games would be..... I dunno.... PRIMITIVE!!!

Point and click games aren't dead; various game confs. I've attended gave lectures extolling the virtues of point and click in Korea since most people play at Net Cafes where they drink and smoke while they play. Mouse/keyboard in one hand, booze/cigs in the other. *Shrug* Korea had a ban on JP products for the longest time so they aren't really console gamers over there. They've put out a number of more action-oriented MMOs. www.mapleglobal.com/One of the best analogies to MMOs I've heard to this date is an MMO is like a Magic or any other CCG out there. There's a lot to choose from, but people rut their way into the most "brutally efficient" routines and hammer them like crazy. SK's internet is a helluvalot faster than it is in America. Latency for that "mach speed action battle" or whatnot would be a major concern over here.

Majuunun (Majuu Nun; would that be a Neutral demon in Shin megami Tensei?) wins the prize for good points and information. Especially for pointing out Maple Story.

I'm a nuclear powered baby seal that shoots more lasers than the last 3 bosses combined! Titan Quest, considered "the next generation Diablo" signals the return of click-happy game play. Fate has also been rediculously popular and dear gods, I wonder why Blizzard hasn't sued: www.fatethegame.com/I was clicking at "mach speed" in certain parts of Diablo as my Occupational Therapist will vouch for(and yell at me to never do again.) Then again, it'd be kind of funny if we pointed on a creature, clicked on it then watched our characters repeatedly ram it. Buried somewhere in the annals of this forum is a real pic of me...I don't have little flippers and plasma wings
