Hello, I just bought the Traditional Chinese Version of the game. Around the end of the install, a message comes up saying " ?.txt" and " ?.exe" cannot be installed because they have invalid syntax. So I just click ignore. I open the game up. I chose Hugo and after the intro, I see him lying on the ground then the game just crashes. Anyone know what might be wrong? PS. Do the patches work for traditional Chinese version? Thank you!

You know, I have no idea. xD Then why did you reply!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? >:E Anyway, I think the issue of the game crashing near the start is not just limited to the Chinese edition as it's addressed in the FAQ at the official Ys Origin page. There seems to be some conflict between decoders and/or drivers such as FFDshow. Falcom suggests uninstalling any DVD programs that could affect video output in Ys Origin. Additionally, it may also be a BGM issue. A solution is to copy all the DLL files from the YSO_WIN/RELEASE/PROGRAMS folder to the system32 folder in the WINDOWS directory. Also no, Japanese patches will not work with the Chinese edition. BTW, are you installing the game under a Chinese language setting? I think those syntax errors could be avoided if the regional settings in Windows is set to Traditional Chinese. Of course, the problem will then become uninstalling the game should you switch back to English. :P (Indeed, I am typing from experience.)

And raise my post count.xD I posted so that the guy wouldn't think "duh, they don't give you any attention, they ignore my replies" and that stuff. So I posted, indirectly insinuating that people could not reply because they don't have a sollution for the problem and not because they don't necessarily care or don't want to. Unnecessary, but whatever.

I have InterWin DVD player, just wondering if you have that and if it caused any problems before I uninstall it. I moved the .dll files to system32. BTW, under non-unicode langauge settings. I see Chinese 5 times with different countries next to them: Chinese(Hong Kong S.A.R) Chinese(Taiwan) Chinese(Macau S.A.R) Chinese(PRC) Chinese(Singapore) I don't see Traditional Chinese in the dropdown menu (I'm using WinXP). So was wondering which should I choose for Traditional Chinese and if there is any program I could use so I can just launch that program under the language settings. I have tried AppLocale and it did not work. Also, by patches, I meant Deuce's english patch that he is working on, will I be able to use that? Thanks Again.

Oh that sucks D:! But, I uninstaled InterWin DVD player and I tried all the different Chinese I listed above, reinstalled the game everytime I changed it. But I still have no luck. It still crashes after the intro movie.

Hirm. :/ You can also try fiddling with the graphics and sound accleration in the Windows Control Panel such as reducing them. Of course, don't reduce the graphics too much that the DirectX drivers aren't used cuz the game won't even run then. :P
Or, there's also a possiblity that there is compatiblity issues with the video card you have or its drivers. I think Napishtim and Felghana had support issues with certain video cards so Origin might have it as well. I'll snoop around the official site after to see if there's any mention about it.
I'm not sure how localization works but I take it that the Chinese company wouldn't have done much other than translate text so there's a possiblity that whatever problems the original JP one had, it's still in the Chinese version. And let's hope they were working from the latest patched version. :P
Edit: Blargh. There doesn't seem to be any specific video card issues other than boss fights messing up on Radeon7000, Radeon7500, MobilityRadeon7500, etc. but that was fixed with a patch.
Oh yeah, the game has a configuration program. Try putting everything on the lowest setting, turn off sound, and see if it still messes up at the start. ^^ I remember there were Windows games where I had to uncheck the sound/music option in order for it to get past a certain point. (What's with the censoring of certain emotions!??!!?? MONKEYS!?)
Last resort would be to uninstall and reinstall video card drivers and/or upgrade them.

I tried it out, with low gfx and I got up to the part where the person is laying down on the ground, the person shakes a bit and crashes x.X. How would turn the sound quality down? Just lower the volume o.O?

I apologise for making my first post in an old topic, but it appears that the TCs problem hasn't been solved so I thought I'd try to help - the publisher, Typhoon Games, offer support via email in English - www.typhoongames.com/us/support.phpHope that sorts out your problem. They also have a download section, but there are no patches for Ys.

I can state that since it's asimplified chinese versione the better way to install it is installing under Chinese(PRC) language setting. I didn't succed in resolving that bug that makes crashin' the game. Has osmeone solved this trouble? Thanks you
