Wikipedia, is not a direct source of anything. I am not talking about outside Japan, I am talking about nation wide, That is why they decided to use AV to represent such films. Yes now and most joe average of people ( people who watches those kinda films ) use AV for the term "Adult Video" . But I know for a fact, in Japan they used AV from the late 70's into the mid-1990's, in mind of Audio Video.
No matter what anybody, or any source tells you any eletronics specialist, computer nerd, or radio head and or freak will say Audial/Audio Visual/Video. It makes it easier for everybody to remember. It is part of it's own science like Biology and Painting. Is most likely part of the reason why the media is still prolific in Japan.
The only people in Japan, who are using the term is the "joe averages" who goes to comedy clubs and "joe averages" who takes part of it. That is part of there "society".

Well duh, since most people are panzies with skirts when it comes to inserting disk into long gruve machine. If I wented outside, all the former downtown mommies would say that means adult video, all the former biker, current custruction worker daddies would say it means adult video, and all the kiddies wouldn't know better, since that is what there disgruntle daddies and mommies, would say. The normal ( dumb people ) of any nation don't really care about the definition of anything. They are the public, like the regular confused people. Did you know many animation studio's in Japan does not even know what the word OVA means? ? Did you know that? Yet there viewers know what the words mean. I am sorry, I am really into my mens entertainment, and seriously there is nothing adult about sex at all. In the west all we have is phat, grotesct, used, pugly, over the limit women. While in Asia and the rest of the non-western world, the younger the better. Do they damage the living daylights out of womens privates, or men have giant privates? No they do not. They have nice normal parts, and there are very cautious. In the USA Ellen Degenerate is what people admire asides Robin Quivers. Could you imagine if Japan had women like that being the posifications of women? Hell no. England has the Queen for crying out loud who started this Adult Video nonsense to begin with. People who are strangers to it, call it Adult Video. People who respects it, as a form of media calls it Audio Visual Stars. Especially the people into Audio and Video, who see's AV all day.

You're right again, Regis. Peples missuing acronominyms is actually a big pet peeve of mine. Look at ETA! If you ask pepple what it means, they will tell u its millatery gargon for estamated time of arrval; WRONG! It means Estra Terstreal Alien! The disfunctionary misgruntled miltrary pepleos changed the meaning, adn they say its because that two things with the same frist ledders can still have thes same hipponymouse! WRONG! Why would they do this, you ask? GOOD QUESTION! Its to cover up the esistance of estra testarial allens! JUST LOOK AT THIS:
THAT SAYS IT ALL!!!!!! Obviously, the misuse of hocrmons is the ssam with A/V. Theire're triying to cover up the use of audio in the visual (which you already pointed out, that many tvs don't have thed audio instllaed but only the visual!), by clamming that AV is adul vidoe just because of its having the SAME first ledders!!! THank you for bringging this to our attention, Regis!

exactly, the normal people who have not taken the trip down the rabbit hole of the subject. That is why people go crazy over the term AV. Showing how munch people actually knows about the lexicon world that resides around them, even with or without there participation. Asides that, it shows how much people knows about how the normal people actually knows about subjects ( culture clubs ) that exist even with there participation.
Yes if we went outside and asked people that same question What does AV means? I bet I would win over you. Why? since there are more people on the planet that can remember AV from there Video device like a VCR and more importantly would not even expect people to be thinking of AV in the way you use it. The only way you would ever be right, is thanks to the popularity and misinformation about Nippon, and leading the idea, the majority of people in Japan actually knows what the term AV means.
Therefor the majority of people would never use your term since they...
1. are not into that stuff 2. don't want to sound creepy 3. actually studies audio and video 4. Will generate my meaning with the word model 5. use the term for something else.
Therefore your term has a 1/5 chance of occurring.

The normal ( dumb people ) of any nation don't really care about the definition of anything. Ok, generalizations are never nice. Just because someone has a different definition for an acronym doesn't mean they're dumb or the world is ending or whatever. It's really easy to take a philosophy course and look down your nose at all of the people who are just skimming through life (I know cause I've done it). I've seen that line in one too many animes too... I'm sure you all have heard it as well. It typically comes from the obviously-in-control androgynous villan who brushes aside his bangs and says something to the degree of, "The sniffling masses are stupid, they're ignorant of the genius that is my plan and they will happily play right into my hand. And when things go wrong they'll blame each other and wonder who will save them." BORING.... In my experience people I meet are really smart, a lot smarter than me. And I'm no dummy, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

If you're going to take my quotes out of context, please at least refrain from calling me androgynous. The politically correct term is "Metrosexual American," thank you very much. Also, while Lao Tzu noted the connection between education and arrogance two and a half millenia ago (or, as Nietzsche puts it, "I look down because I'm elevated") do you actually think this applies to regalsin???????????? Erm, I'm saying anime villans are androgynous. It's true, you know I'm right. :) Or are YOU an anime villan?! GASP! Seriously, though, I'm just saying it's not cool to assume people are dumber than you... whether anyone here really thinks they're awesome or are just joking, I don't know. Although......... if memory serves, everyone who's a member of ALoY had to pass an awesomeness test, so maybe we're all better than everyone else. >:) Anyone who knows about much less likes Ys is OK by me.

That's pretty good, isn't it? I always get percentile confused, since I know it isn't just percentage. (also, I'm pretty fucking dumb, so I wouldn't say that, Wyrd )

That means the doctor said I weighed more than 90% of people out there D:
But hmm, okay. That's good to hear, and thank you!

Apparently Harmonix hasn't figured that percentile stuff out in Rock Band 3 'cause I occasionally get in the "0th percentile" on keyboard songs. Given that if it doesn't say that, it usually says 94-98 I guess they have some rounding issues near 99 & 100

Actually, I wouldn't judge you as stupid at all, Smithee. but I would judge you as fat! Anyway, percentage averages: www.iqcomparisonsite.com/IQtable.aspxAnd for those curious: www.highiqsociety.org/The test here generally seems to give results within points of the stanford-binet, not to mention giving scores for the individual categories of intelligence (which is good for lopsided people like me). Also, from what I see, I'd guess many of these good folks to be even in the mid to upper 90s, percentile wise. While top 2-3 percent sounds like a marginal minority, its easy to forget just how large the margin is for entirely uneducated people.

Well don't be generous with the unwashed masses, be generous toward the radiant pristine perfection that is ALoY! Obviously everyone here is a genius! [everybody looks at regalsin] okay. . . maybe one of us IS in the 80-90 category. (Now I'm being generous) Just teasing, Regis! I speak with love! That site is funny though. Thankfully none of those people are HERE. [everybody looks at Regis] love dude, love.

I'll give it one thing: the protagonist is a lot easier on the eyes than Adol. For me, anyway. -Tom And thus we learned the true reason behind female protagonists.

Cool! She fights in a dress! : )
I once designed a main heroine game character for a concept game that also wore a dress. My friends always laughed at me about how impractical it would be for her to fight with a sword and shield while wearing a long flowing dress. *laughs*
Thanks for sharing MP83. I'll definitely be checking it out especially since it is a fan-translated MSX title.

Hey... Ys Vanished Omen for the Famicom is like similar to Ys. I'm proud of myself for beating this game back in the day.

I recently picked up Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals for the DS to get my fix on Ys, which I haven't played in quite a while. I may think about digging up the Oath in Felghana DVD I stashed somewhere if I really need more.
Lufia is a remake of Lufia 2 for the SNES in an action RPG manner; the game really rewards you for being aggressive (Amon, Sinistral of Chaos, is a complete pushover since you can be extra aggressive against him). Real fun, real short, though.
