I'm asking this because I have tried it myself. I can get it register all of buttons except the directional buttons. Am I just doing something wrong, or can you only play it with a specific controller type? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is your adapter from Mayflash? They are really bad, and the directional buttons usually don't work with those.

When I started buying Ys PC games I immediately went out to get a Logitech Dual Action controller, built to look and feel the same way as a PS2 controller. USB connection, no drivers required (with XP), works perfectly.

Dual Action is an incredible control. I've got one the same, except it's a cheapie brand. So the buttons kind of stick. I play better on my Saitek Eclipse keyboard anyway. Reaction time is peak, so I never have any issues executing extremely quick changes in plans.
