I just finished the first episode and I can only think of one word to describe it:
Breathtaking
I am not sure how many Macross fans there are here, or for that matter "mecha" fans. I highly recommend watching this!

I've been hooked since the preview aired last fall. First four eps have been released and they each have a throwback to the original series in some way.

Very much so, which is a good thing. The new VF - 25 series is pretty cool too.

I like how they have different versions, each capable of something different. You have the heavy armored version, the fast and agile, and a steady sniper.
The battle in ep 4, while brief had some nice moves being performed. Reminds me of Max from the original series, so I'm hopeful for future eps.

Episode 7 pretty much told us not to mess with gays and that missile spam never gets old after 25 years. Episode 8 is another character interaction episode (one of the things I liked about Macross Frontier). Can't wait for subs SURPRISE SINGING CARROT LOLI!Oh yeah... I'm not really sure if they're really planning on answering all these questions about the franchise (Magaroad 1, Supervision Army etc.). So far, all we got are numerous references. There are speculations that Macross Frontier is largely connected with Macross Zero.... we'll see.

I've yet to watch a single episode. I think I'm holding back because I've never watched the original Macross and Macross 7. Although I know they have very little connection but they are still in the same universe with connecting timelines. I hate it that I've not watched the originals.
I did watch Macross Zero. So I'm in a dilemma deciding whether to throw money at buying the blu rays of MF or just watch the "downloads".

Perfect, because if anything watching Macross Zero will mix in with Frontier for you. There are a few episodes that feature Zero content, but with a new spin. You can get away with watching this first over anything else, but you need a good understanding of the races, and some things my not mesh for you. The Zentradi, the different sizes of them, there little 'sects', and the whole reason the Frontier is doing what its doing. Watching Macross is where most of this comes in. You can get away with just watching "Do you remember love", but its only a 'reminder' to the real events. Its basically a whole series squeezed into 1.5 hours, but the animation is much better. Macross 7 is not that important, but it does feature some characters from the original series, and its very long. Mostly musical, and lighthearted its only connection to Frontier is some Fire Bomber songs. Ether way I would get started on Frontier ASAP as its one of the best series I have seen in a long time. Its got love, action, plot twists on a gov't level, and crazy crazy valkyrie battle scenes.

As you may see in Wyrd's thread on DVDs in Chaotic Chat I was having problems with the burning. I obviously knew to burn it though (I'm not THAT dumb ). Given the new tips I've obtained on it I may be able to complete this task soon enough!

I think the series is available on Blue Ray which is a big deal for me. I can't wait to order those.
UPDATE***
So I checked on the Blue-Ray releases, and they are expensive and not worth picking up. There is 1-2 episodes per release, which doesn't seem like a good deal if you ask me.
And they wonder why people download fansubs...
