Ys Origin Super Arrange gets the highest play of my Ys soundtracks (although I purposefully omitted the vocal tracks). Over Drive is my favorite track.

Symphony Ys 95 is still one of the all time great OSTs, it was used a lot in the Ys II anime series, and it rocked my socks. The Morning Glow version of that was nothing short of amazing. And talking about vocal versions of the songs - Here's an odd one, that I love to death: Smile Again (See You Again) - Youtube and a non vocal, but friggen amazing version of Wanderers from Ys from YsIII Super Arrange, live trumpets for the win, sadly I can't find a youtube link. and my last of the doesn't get enough love tracks is definitely Temple of the Sun from Ys IV, I remember finding a mid-like file (it was a format used almost exclusively in Japan, and listening to this on loop. This was before the era of easily accessed MP3s, back when I had to acutally purchase my Ys CDs online, at a hellish premium, still was never able to get Ys IV PC2, and it haunts me to this day.

Ashurei: I was gonna comment exactly about that album! Surely one of my favorite, really great stuff.
Bishopcruz: that version of Wanderers From Ys' probably my favorite, really awesome. Also, Ys IV's soundtrack rocks.

Wyrdwad, I finally like the Dawn of Ys soundtrack, many listens later.
As for my FAVORITE... I'm partial to Ark of Napishtim

Really not sure about this one. It's sort of a toss up between OiF, Chronicles, and 7 OSTs. If 7's OST was all instrumental like OiF, it'd be that one hands down. Maybe for the PC version, they'll do that.
I guess I'll go with OiF

III/Felghana and Seven both have the majority of my favorites... I'd have to give the edge to Seven, however, due to its consistency and overall composition quality.
... am I the only one who hates the Chronicles arranges? When you make every single track rock, it loses its impact...

If not the only, certainly one of the few. xD They weren't THE BEST to me, personally, but I thought they were incredible.

The ONLY two tracks I prefer in the Chronicles version are Termination and Subterranean Canal--the former largely because of its gorgeous bass break (always loved those on the JDK Spring 2008 album), and the latter because it actually works. And sounds fucking great.

with some songs (Dreaming, most notably) made so much worse in Chronicles that I honestly don't like them at all. IGN, wow, turn that 180° and you got me. xD

I sort of like the all out rockishness of chronicles and oif. And you guys have to admit, moat of burnbless went from forgettable to awesome.

Aww, well to each his own. I'm a big fan of fire-elemental areas partially because in every game (not just Ys either), they seem to have relatively bouncin music. The complete version just didn't provide the level of hardcore-ness that place deserves while the chronicles one somehow managed to deliver. I think replacing the fast bass part with heavy guitar did it for me.

Best fire area music in an Ys game, though, is probably A Kiss From Eldeel in Dawn of Ys. That song is amazing. Yeah, this is part of the reason why I want a remake of that game. Both Ys 4 & 7 have a ton of great tracks that would sound completely awesome on actual instruments. Granted Dawn of Ys Kiss from Eldeel sounded awesome to begin with; not sure how much they can improve that, but like Walking the Path of Legend and the Shrine of the Sun could both use an instrumental.

My first (well thread) post im a little nervous most of you guys seem to know what you are talking about ^^;;;
Well when it comes to Ys soundtracks, there is no 1 game I can choose because each has its own style even same games as different versions (aka such as Ys1&2 on the TG16 CD or Ys eternal etc.) will have the same OST's but played differently, which may give it a whole new sound.
I love all the music from the series but so far the one I have liked the most is Ys 4:mask of the sun.
