I thought I would create a thread showcasing some of our favorites when it comes to anime opening/ending themes. Contrary to popular belief you CAN tell an anime by its opening, and just by browsing youtube alone for some, has shown me so many new series. I think by posting some here, we will be able to show each other some new stuff, or recount some old Vision of Escaflowne I am a pretty big fan of this series, and although I found the story confusing (I will explain), I loved the art style, and whole "midevil yet mecha" thing. I always buy my anime down in Chinatown, and they are the japanese versions, with subtitles. Sometimes, but very rarely, I get DVDs with HORRIBLE subtitle translations. The last ten eps were almost unwatchable, because they even forgot to place subs for 5 min increments periodically. Lucky for me they had the English track on there too, but still, switching languages 2/3 into the series really sucked. Ether way the opening kicks ass, and showcases the emotions each character seems to portray throughout the series. The song was sang by Maaya Sakamoto, who has a very impressive resume (wikipedia her sometime), and it marks her first work. The song, along with all of the others throughout the series, was composed by Yoko Kanno, a name that is virtually household to most anime soundtrack fans.

Nice pick Justin, I liked what I've seen of Escaflowne, but I really should watch more.
Wyrdwad: glad to see someone else who likes the second Kodocha opening better than the first!
Since I'm a longtime Dirty Pair fan, I gotta go with the TV and OAV openings: TV:
OAV:
And the X-Men opening rules too:

I liked Escaflowne but I would stay on the planet and live there, I would do anything to get off this effin planet. How come japan has a better X-men intro, its soooo much better. I really like the 0083 intro, nice music and is freakin sweet! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz1493jp7oU

Xmen the show was killer, I am glad I was able to snag the entire series, before it became scarce.

You should really check out Tsukihime if you like anime adapted from dating sims. The Tsukihime anime isn't quite as... erotic as the game, thankfully, so you should be able to watch that if you have issues with "adult" material -- as opposed to anime such as Pia Carrot. XD As far as erotic anime goes (and that's how I'll refer to it; if anyone has a problem with me saying "erotic anime", bite me) there was one with a nifty story -- yet I can't remember the name of it. It was about the prince of the underworld, his journey to recover his lost memories (Freakin' amnesia, man!) and save the world. There was a tablet that had special powers, (If only someone could read the damn thing!) and it was one of the main focuses of the story -- infact, it was mentioned during the opening of every show. Along the way, he'd be mistaken for some "legendary hero", due to his uncanny likeness. It was nifty, but heavy on erotic material. If I remember it, I may make mention of it later on.

Hm... I haven't seen Ef, myself. I may have to look into these, at some point. Preferably, when I'm done watching Druaga.

Heh, lots of good stuff here. I'll prolly post up some of my favourites... when I'm off work.
Hard to remember stuff when you've been watching anime for quite a long time...
Right off the bat, I can say that I love whatever anime songs Maaya Sakamoto has sang, especially the Raxephon songs.
Another singer and songwriter I love would be Arai Akino. She sang the ending theme for Noir.
And finally, my third favourite goes to Okazaki Ritsuko. Sang the songs for Fruits Basket. I was depressed when she passed away. May she Rest in Peace.

Oh wow! She's crazy hyper! (Until I backtracked, I didn't realize that you'd already said that about her... well, that's me saying it now.) Some people say I'm pretty wild sometimes, but I didn't expect this -- and people who say I'm hyper have obviously never seen her! Should I expect crazy hyper land in Japan, or are people more relaxed there? I mean, I know they're (the announcers are) pretty intense during game shows, but this is the first time I've seen anyone act so... hyper on "tv". As always though, Robin Williams is awesome! P.S. Nothing wrong with being hyper, but eh... wow, I think I just discovered where my limit's at with hyperactivity.

Well keeping in tradition, I finished my Gundam 01 model today so....
GUNDAM WING OP 2
I always liked the second op more, and it had better fight scenes, especially the one with Wing Zero and Epyon.
PLEASE SAVE MY EARTH
Please save my earth ( Hana to Yume) is probably one of my favorite shows of all time. I wish the manga was translated, but I am more than happy with the 7 eps, and 3 soundtracks. Its a cool story about reincarnation. It should not be missed, and I hope by hearing the ending scene, you will understand where I am coming from. The music in this show is just stellar.
BLOOD REIGN: CURSE OF THE YOHMA
My final entry for today is something I have searched high and low for, a very long time. I used to watch this trailer (yes they count too) over and over, just sucked in by the soft tone of the woman singing. I finally managed to snag the DVD of this and I recommend it big time. Its your basic feudal era Japan, with demons, ninjas, and really random imagery, that I find slowly faded from conventional anime (there is a scene with a woman dead, legs open, with a new born baby laying in front.... kinda gross, but so real for its time I suppose)

Here are some of my favourite theme songs. Kokoro Toshokan's Opening. The very first cutesy and heartwarming anime I watched and liked. ETO Rangers Ending. I watched this anime a long long time ago while I was a kid. But I kinda fell in love with this song. Unfortunately, youtube removed it due to copyright infringement @#$#!!!! So, I'm gonna post the other ending that I like less. P.S. I'd appreciate if someone can find a clip to the ending that I love. It's called 星座の屋根の下で. EDIT: Nevermind, I found the clip on some chinese site. v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjI0NzUwMzY=.html Noir Ending. One of my favourite songs from one of my favourite singers. Gunbuster 2 Opening. Gotta be my favourite upbeat anime song. Especially when it's one of my favourite animes starring one of my favourite anime lead female characters. That's all for now... since posts like these take up space on the monitor screen.

Contrary to popular belief you CAN tell an anime by its opening I agree. The openings are all crap, just as the animes themselves. So when will this fad be over? It's getting tiresome.

I just realized I'm so very bad at watching animes. I haven't watched any of the ones who's openings you guys have listed here. (Oh wait... except Lain! :'D) I've read the manga versions of some though. I loved the Dirty Pair openings! They're making me want to go off and actually search and find the show! I remember reading the manga when I was young but never watched the anime (nor even had the drive to! XD). They look so fun! I loved the Escaflowne, Clannad and Kokoro Toshokan's openings too. Kokoro Toshokan seems cute but nice. What's it about? And I'm most definitely going to look up Please save my earth and Tales of Agriculture now! (Oh god! Those little bacteria are so adorable! *dies*) Anyways, though I am lazy with watching animes, I figured I might as well put up my favourite openings too. I'm very bad with watching lots of shows. There seems to be such a great lack of time. But anyways, I think my favouritest opening ever is of Last Exile: (Eep! First time attempting this YouTube linking... hope it works!) And I guess, just like the opening, I love, love this show. Aside from Lodoss, this is probably the only one I can watch a million times and still not get bored. Airship battles! And then there are these two shows. Ayakashi: I downloaded this show and watched a bit before lack of time took its toll and it got pushed away for some day later. But I loved the opening. I loved the style of the show! (And talking about it now... I think I'll pull it out next and definitely complete watching it!) Aaaand.... Wolf and Spice: I'm actually currently going through this so perhaps thats the reason why I like this opening so much? I tend to of whichever anime I'm currently watching, and then later when the excitement's died down in my mind, it kind of just fades away to the background... :'D But I actually really liked the opening song. It made me continue watching and downloading on and so far I really am not regretting it! Aside from all this though... So when will this fad be over? It's getting tiresome. I actually agree with this. Though probably not in the way FM-77 means it. Its actually incredibly annoying when you meet some person who is like suddenly, out of the blue 'all totally into' watching anime. Its nice that people around me (not you guys!) have suddenly started sharing my interests, but its annoying when everyone jumps onto the whole thing just because its suddenly cool. Hurh! Appreciate everything for what it truly is, not because its fashionable, o silly masses! X( (Ah... and none of this was directed towards any of you guys. That line just drudged up one of my greatest peeves :'D)

You can ignore what fm-77 says. Most of the time he just sprouts stuff to spread his hate of everything tangible and intangible in this world. Sometimes he's right, most other times... well...
Anyway Kokoro Toshokan is what fm-77 would call "a totally meaningless and utterly boring" anime. It's about 3 sisters running a library their parents left in the rural outskirts of a little town and that's it. Nothing much happens. I like it because its just cute and very mild.

I haven't really gotten around to watching Someday's dreamer (the first series). I got it on download from a few years back. Kamichu is so awesome, so cute.
Sexy Commando is prolly the best zany comedy anime I've seen my whole life. I'm so getting the dvds and mangas off amazon japan someday soon. They just re-released the manga this year in a "complete" edition.

Rie Sugimoto was Miss Lilia, and I can't believe they included that music video, and footage of her winning the title on the Ys DVDs. That was great. The Midori Kawana CD rules! It's been forever since I listened to that.
