That would be awesome, but I'm sure they'll want to focus on the Persona discussion.
Another option is to ask Koei what they think about this too, since they had a heavy hand in the original SFC games (they also published them in Japan). Of course with their merger and recent offerings, they probably won't be interested.

Koei made the SFC remakes, and they also published Brandish 1 in North America. That was such a huge success, I'm sure they'll do it again.

Man, they showed one of the final bosses AND the ending in the first video footage ever. Am I the only one who dislikes spoilers? Guess they wanted to show SOMETHING, as the game doesn't really contain any events other than the intro and the ending. They also showed the game being played with Dela. Pretty interesting.

I've briefly played a ROM of Brandish for SNES and found it fun, so I watched the preview video and... WHOA! That looks incredible! And that music! Falcom and JDK have done it again! This looks like it might be the best version of Brandish by far. I hope they either localize it here, or port it to PC so it can be translated! (I heard you the first time, FM-77... ) And I'm definitely getting that music CD set when it comes out.

Thanks for the link to the trailer! Come on people, show some support at the Atlus Forum! www.atlus.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2464Serious question time: If the PSP port was ever picked up by an American publisher... what do you think the names should be? Should they be using the original JPN ones (Ares/Dela Delon) or the Koei localization ones (Varik/Alexis)? I'm not sure there were other significant changes (other than Alexis wearing a set of armor) but please let me know!

The only changes were the names, and the fact that they censored all of Dela's graphics (pictures, sprites). Well, they also changed the title screen music. Or rather, they removed it and just put some rumbling noise in.
By the way, she used to be Dela Devon, but now it says Delon. That name sounds worse, to me.

I don't see any reason for them to do that unless she accidentally slips out of her clothes.
Hell, you get quite a bit of ass in Lunar, afterall; when Luna becomes evil, under mind control and all that.

Usually one of two reasons:
1) The name is taken from a language we don't know well enough, and it very well could be pronounced Dola but spelled Dela in that language.
2) Engrish.
This is kind of what I brought up in the YsO thread too -- if it is indeed Engrish, there's no way to tell which one they really wanted, Dela and mispelling it in katakana or Dola and mispelling it in Roman alphabet ;/

Dora!? WTF!? Sorry, Wyrdwad, but you get... EPIC FAIL!Seriously, I prefer Dela BY FAR. It just sounds so much more...sultry.

No no no, anything but "Dora". >.> It reminds me of a certain annoying "let's learn spanish" child's show.

Dunno, if this is a bump, it's only been five days. I'm so excited for this, I'm probably one of the biggest Brandish fans in the western hemisphere, everyone I know seems to think it's "blah" or a crappy game. The main problems with Brandish are that it has an enormous learning curve due to the wacky controls and nauseating camera... but if you can get over that, everything... clicks, and then it becomes one of the awesomest games ever. also I love the SNES version (also SFC brandish 2 is ridiculously good, I don't mind that they took away some of the areas that much because the scrolling is smooth), I can't read japanese and the old PC versions are too chunky for me, the only PC one I beat was brandish 3. ANYWAY so this is my opinion on everything in the trailer, copypasted from my livejournal or whatever: what follows may contain spoilers!!Okay, things I noticed in the new video now that I've watched it in HQ and paused to see all the shots, bad things first!
- instead of cutaway pixel art, we have rpgmaker-esque faceplates, which are kind lame just floating there like that. - the textures for some areas are muddy, especially the Fortress! I hope this isn't a problem when you're actually playing the game! -- Generic anime designs for everything, but as I look at these more the more I see that they're not as bad as I originally thought at first glance. The designs aren't horrible, they just look more generic for everyone else besides Dela. Ares and the dead ghost girl probably take it the hardest. There's a dead ghost girl in the first game who looked realistic and was crying because her parents died (and her too, although she doesn't realize it) and she's lost and she doesn't know what to do. I dunno, wide-eyed anime girls are kind of incapable of making me feel sorry for them. So that's the worst, and I can't read Japanese anyway so it doesn't matter that much. But seriously Varik's nose is huge, but he's a scoundrel so it's okay for him to have a scoundrel-nose. Not all killers get to be pretty. - It's on PSP, which sucks (for me). Whatever, I'll do my best to get my hands on this. It'd be nice to have a portable SNES emulator anyway
neutral stuff:
= The part where you, uh, "activate the alternate ending" is shown in the trailer, and Dela actually looks like she's showing more emotion than immature anger there, which is kind of nice. = The Fortress seems to have a design change. Instead of this weird place where the walls are made of yellow roots and tentacles with crimson eyes, it looks like it's made entirely of bloody red, muddy roots. This looks kind of cheap and tacky, but I could also see some normal floor tiles being overtaken by the red stuff, so it might turn out to be really cool! Seems like a pretty neutral change to me. Why are they showing the last floor in a trailer, anyway!? = Somehow Dela manages to get more scantily clad every single game. What's up with that? I mean, I don't mind... but...
awesome stuff:
+ THE SCREEN ACTUALLY TURNS NOW, IT DOESN'T TRANSITION INSTANTLY AND MAKE PEOPLE THINK THAT IT'S WARPING AND CAUSE THEM TO VOMIT HAHAHAHH YES + Tons of little cool polished explosions and effects, which are nice, like a chimesplosion when you level a stat up and an UNOBTRUSIVE message. (screw you snes version) Some of them are kind of Web 2.0-y but I don't really mind. ++ The enemies have some cool redesigns, for example the giant Bezalhydra (the next to the last boss, why are you in the trailer??) is instead of a generic three-headed ghidora ripoff, a three-headed fiery bird-dragon with crazy-ass flame beaks! Also, instead of flying electric brains we have jellyfish. (Unless they were always fish, I couldn't tell) Also the Headless are purple, which looks dumb. But it's nice to have something new. +++ Enemies make a groaning sound when they die and when they get hit, and it's not really repetitive and jellyfish don't make it. So it's awesome, now it feels even better to strafe around and hit things. HITTING THINGS +++++++ Holy crap did you hear that music? THEY FINALLY PUT LIVE ROCK GUITARS AND ORCHESTRATION IN HERE. Now all the mediocre tracks with poor instruments but good composition will sound amazing! Hahahah FINALLY! EAT THAT, TURBOGRAFX! OVERCLOCKED REMIX HERE WE COME ++++++++++++ Okay so I noticed that when Dela/Alexis/scantily clad babe is fighting some guys with her awesome-looking staff, in the top-right corner it says "RUINS EX 9."
Ruins EX. So not only do we get to play as someone else (who, to be honest, probably plays almost exactly the same!), but the 9 indicates that there's an ENTIRE OTHER RUIN TO EXPLORE!! The main reason I play this game IS the gameplay, everything else is just icing on the cake, so having 40 more puzzles to solve, new items, different bosses to fight, and new monsters suddenly consummates my entire reason for getting a glorified remake of the game. I'm going to import it on release day and borrow someone's PSP from school or something like that because they are REGION FREE, SUCKAS!!! mwahahaha
Plus she's level 97 in the trailer when she's fighting those monsters and they take more than one hit to kill, so either she forgot something on the first floor of the ruins like her hat or something (which explains why she does NOT have a hat) or it's a new game + option, which would kick butt. Also the level cap is probably 150 like it was in Brandish 2, which is funny because you could beat the game at level 1 and you probably WERE level 75 when you beat it, I leveled up to 120 just because it was funny once because leveling up in that game is ridiculously easy for some reason. SPECULATION ATTACK!
++++++++++++++++++++ Everytime Varik/Ares would have had the Planet Buster (or the Flame Sword, for that matter) equipped in the trailer, he has an infinite short-sword or rapier instead.
Which is funny, because they show us the last level, the next-to-the-last boss, extra content, HALF of the bosses in the game, and ALL OF THE AREAS (except the dark zone and the last boss area)
but seriously if they show him wielding the ultimate sword, that's just
that's just SPOILERRIFFIC
okay that's it, sorry for the excessively long post
I have a lot of Brandish-related emotions pent up inside of me because I have no one to talk to about the games except myself, and I like them quite a bit and I can't get anyone else to like them because of the controls and the moonspeak. Blehhhh.
(also, unrelated brandish 3 I simultaneously feel is one of the best and worst titles at the same time, the music is so varied and awesome and I love the SHIELD ATTACK but it plunks out at the ending areas minus the FORTLESS and I feel that the fact that they actually make you backtrack and interconnected all these OUTSIDE AREAS destroys the clautrophobic cohesiveness that made the original games so great. Plus some of the areas involving flying enemies, floor-dropping pits, autosave and enemy-filled-rooms were just... horrifying.)

I am down with the anime art style too. I love the "classic" look most of Falcom's stuff gets.

Yeah, I don't mind the art style so much as the fact that it makes everything look a tad more generic (like, it still looks totally fantastic). If you guys enjoy it, though, that's perfectly fine by me, I figure Falcom knows its fans better than I do, and it only bothers me just a teensy bit.
In any case, I hope I'm not making this game sound too good or anything, everyone that I've ever asked to try Brandish has only played it an hour and then come back to me shaking their heads, so I wouldn't... I wouldn't want to hype anything up too much... ;_;

Random note, Falcom really seem to like advertising their PSP ports. A lot of the trains on the Tokyo Yamanote line I went on have ads up for either Zwei or Brandish. There aren't many ads on those trains either.

Preorders are open on the official website now. Traditional 4788 Yen pricetag, includes the 2 disc OST.

Just noticed this so I figured I'd post it. Amazon JP seem to be selling the game with FOUR soundtrack discs. The main 2 disc OST that comes with preorders from Falcom's site along with 2 further discs containing the FM Towns and Renewal versions of the soundtrack. It's also 1000 yen cheaper than Falcom's mailorder site. Preordered mine from Amazon anyway, purely for the soundtrack. If the game itself is good, all the better

Tell me about it ;_;
They also won't ship keyrings, game accessories and perhaps most amusing - imported US games overseas.

Yeah it's true - manga, artbooks, CDs and DVDs are fine, but if I want some matching merchandise to go with it then it's a complete no-go. I'd love an Amazon-alike that didn't care where you lived (but I don't think my wallet would!).
