Hi all, first post, as I'm completely stuck on the final boss of Ys II on the PC-Engine (under emulation)... maybe it's because I'm much older these days, but I just can't dodge the damn balls he throws about long enough to kill him. I understand I need the Goddess' Ring to slow the balls down, and I use the Shield Rod to give me a few free hits, but the closest I can get is about 1/8th of his health left before I fall prey to the Balls Of Doom... is there a pattern you need to follow to kill him, or is it just a reflex test here? Help me finish this game after all these years please

If you get to the game's maximum level, (and remain equipped with the Goddess Ring and the Shield Rod) he will be a piece of cake.
No real skill is needed to beat him under these conditions. But he's rather difficult if your level is not maxed out.

This man does not underestimate the Dark Balls, he is a wise man indeed... when you say maximum level, my saved game is at L61, with only 1 more possible to get, but the spawn outside the Core only give 1 exp at this point, so I'll need to kill another 3,000 before I can get there... is there a place you can more easily farm experience, because even at 61 with all Cleria gear I get well and truly Ys-Bagged in that room.

Go to that dude's basement in Rance village and walk back and forth through the monsters. As long as you don't stop, you won't get hurt, and they give 1 xp.

Even better: Turbo the magic attack button, have the Hawk Idol or Falcon Idol equipped, and stand in front of where the enemies spawn in the basement. XP will build ALOT quicker than the above message suggested.

It's been a fair while since I tried to complete Y's II, so I'm not sure where you mean with regards to the basement... Currently I've just made 1000 exp by running up and down at the first spawn you find coming back out of the Core, but now I'm rather bored after an hour of that I've also apparently forgotten how healing works in this game, he he he... it's been nearly a year since I last tried, but I have the urge to pop those balls again!

Jira's basement. Jira is in Rance Village (Rance in the TG-16 game), his house is in the southwestern-most area.

Ahhh, I believe I've found where you mean; A few minutes indeed later.... Bitch be popping balls! It's still rather hard if Darm doesn't randomly appear close to you during the time you have shielded, even at full experience, but 3 tries later I finally got him! Woo hoo!
