Hey everyone,
Has anyone figured out what triggers the Slaugf giving you the free sword at the beginning of the game, or is talking to everyone in Barbado the answer to this?

Yes, talking to everyone.

Not only talking to everyone, but also talking to them BEFORE talking to him for the first and, as well as choosing every topic to talk about with Slaghf himself before finishing the talk. And I think you also need to talk about everything available with the doctor and his female assistant too.

You guys are lazy~! X( A little talking (to everyone) doesn't hurt one bit! Socialize! I ended up with a free sword before I even knew what was happening!

Though the player is discouraged in the PS2 version of the game. xD Each time you enter or leave a house may take one full minute. Sometimes more, sometimes less. xD Still, I always do it. Or usually.

I never knew that Slaugf provided the first sword. That's kinda cool. I knew that he gives you the 3rd sword, the Talwarl, later in the game after you finish the Solomon Shrine. I wonder if you can get both the 1st and the 3rd sword from him in one playthrough.

You can. xD There's nothing that prevents that.
