The first time I played YsF I used a keyboard, as I hadn't picked up a PC gamepad yet. After finally getting a gamepad, I can certainly say Falcom extends much love in making these games "console-esque" in their controls -ud

Where is the mouse option? xD
I guess that I'm the only one that uses that configuration.

I want those official Micro$hit ones that look exactly like a 360 controller. For now I use these cheap Logitech controllers, and they serve their purpose well. I hate playing anything with a keyboard, and that's probably why I always stuck with consoles over the years.

I should find one of those SNES to PC converter things. I never had much luck finding that kind of stuff in the past, and I sort of lost interest. I rarely play video games on a computer.

For that very game in particular, I stick with a PS2-modeled GamePad.

I just picked up a Super Joy Box 5 Pro, so I can use 4 PS2 controllers with my PC. Works great, but it would be nice if it offered a built-in keyboard mapping capability. Oh well, works fine with everything I want to play anyway. Super Joy Box 5 Pro Review, also from the guys I got mine from: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5NsasUPicABack in the day I had a hacked PS1 multitap running off the parallel port and used an xbox controller with USB adapter and used PSXpad software for drivers on both, but apparently it no longer functions properly under XP. I purchased the wireless IR module to use my 360 controllers, unaware that I cannot make it recognize the same on it and my 360 at the same time. :\ Very lame, so it’s collecting dust.

Gamepad all the way! I couldn't imagine playing Ys: The Oath in Felghana without it!

I used to play the early Ys PC games with a keyboard and then discovered the PS2 to PC USB adapter and have been using that ever since! :D
I definitely played Felghana with the Dual Shock 2. :B
However, I do believe I played Xanadu Next with mouse and keyboard. ^^

The website above is a good place to buy it from or you can check out ebay.com. I picked mine up for $5 + $5 s/h! You can also use the corded 360 controller which is what I was doing before I got the wireless gaming receiver. If you have vista you wont need the drivers but anything else you will probably need the drivers which you can pick up at this www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/download.aspx?category=Gaming website! If you want to buy a classic NES or SNES controller for PC use with out buying a converter check out this store.videogamecentral.com/usb-classic-controllers.html website! Great site with some pretty cool stuff! My last piece of advice would be using a PS3 controller! Yes you can use them but its far and few between actually getting it to work. I have done it once before on a buddys PC for him so if you wanna try it out check out this www.ps3-hacks.com/file/12 website! Hope I am able to help out some peeps! I have found that a 360 controller is the best contoller I have ever used! It plays like a SNES controller and is simple to use but not some cheap piece.

I have to use a gamepad with any Ys game, a keyboard just doesn't work for me.
I'm using a Logitech PS2 controller with a Pelican USB adapter (the one for the PS3) and its working fine.

So much gamepad love here. :o
I love the keyboard configuration for Ys games... or any PC game, for that matter. I honestly can't explain why but... whatever. :P

While I cannot deny the awesome of the analog, save perhaps for the n64 incarnation of it since it was terrible, I actually find myself using the D-pad more often on certain types of games. Like... anything but Gurumin on the PSP, I'll use the pad. Fighting games are so much easier to control with a D-pad. And I just can't imagine playing Ys without arrow keys. XD Maybe I'm too old-fashioned. I'm probably too young to use that kind of language, BUT STILL! 4-way control 4 LYFE. Edit: I know once Ys seven hits PSP and I import that I'll probably be using the analog, though!

In general I would say D pad for 2D games, analog for 3D. Of course there are exceptions to everything. I usually prefer D-pads because they have a more precise feel to them.
