I like both plum and sake, but prefer sake on most occasions. I don't drink it too often, but it's wonderful when heated. I hope to one day be able to try the traditional style in Japan when I visit one of these days. There is a method/style? of drinking sake out of a wooden box that absorbs the flavor of the wood.

I'm not a spirits/wine fan anyway, but I tried it once and hated it. Having said that, it was from Wagamama, so that might be why XD I'll probably try it again at least once.

Never had the chance to drink it. =(
Though I will try some when I get the chance. I may try it in many ways (hot, cold, etc). =D

#1 sake? Well, Budweiser claims to be the king of beers, and we all know how true that is... Anyway, I've had some sake that tasted like my gym clothes smell, and I've also had some that was quite pleasant. I can't claim to know much more, but I'm not too excited to try that much more. I've also had some umeshu I liked, but it was so sweet that I imagine it'd be hard to drink a lot. I am a big fan of beer, though... any fellow quality beer drinkers? I've been drinking mostly Belgian and beers brewed in Belgian styles lately. Delirium Tremens, La Fin Du Monde, Allagash White... though my supplies are running low. I also have a Double Bastard Ale and a Dogfish Head Raison D'Extra waiting to be enjoyed.

I don't drink. I wouldn't mind trying Sake, but IN Japan. Never outside.
With that said, someday I'll move to Japan. Stop drinking! It's bad for your health and makes me rofl when you make a fool out of yourself!

I don't drink. I wouldn't mind trying Sake, but IN Japan. Never outside. ...Why? This is a naive viewpoint to hold about this. Don't you realize that people can enjoy alcohol without drinking to excess? When I go to the bar to have a beer with a friend when I'm at home, I usually have to drive home, which means no more than a couple of beers, depending on how long we're sitting. Enjoying an alcoholic drink does not make one a drunk. Nor does it make one drunk... unless you're a lightweight, anyway.

indeed people can enjoy alcohol without exsess. I sometimes take a beer around 9pm just to relax from the stress day.
and why only drink in Japan, the most famous sake's are brewed outside of Japan, and taste just the same.

I am a big fan of beer, though... any fellow quality beer drinkers? Nah. I'm a lager man. Tried a few beers at world-beer nights in local pubs, but I've never really enjoyed them too much. They're too.. umm.. "heavy".

A specific type of beer rather, which is usually a bit thicker rather than the usual watery texture of normal beer. Not sure what makes the consistancy like that though. Probably something different during the process of the hops. Maybe I should Wik' that sometime.

Probably something different during the process of the hops. Maybe I should Wik' that sometime. I don't even know where to start here. No! No, no, no! Ales and lagers differ in the type of yeast used, top fermenting vs. bottom fermenting. Not all ales are dark and heavy and not all lagers are thin and yellow! There is no "normal" beer, unless you consider the more popular, flavorless beers to be the norm... which is the sad case in a lot of places. Yes, and beer drinkers tend to look down on us lager drinkers with disdain and contempt 8( Oh, because lager isn't beer now? I... see. Er, yeah... I'd never tell someone to stop drinking what they like. I could enjoy a Pabst Blue Ribbon as much as I could a glass of Duvel. I have chosen Yuengling Lager over DFH's 90 Minute IPA. It all depends on what you're in the mood for. I wouldn't encourage elitism... but I do encourage people being educated about what they're drinking. I suggest you do a little bit of reading. Wikipedia has some decent articles, and there's a ton of good information on BeerAdvocate, but some of their users (sadly a very vocal minority it seems) display an irritating elitism, so it can be a little offputting.

Beer (of any sort) is for people who can't handle real alcohol. Gee, that's funny that you'd say that... the way that beer is more than vaguely similar to the way sake is brewed. A great beer is every bit as enjoyable as a fine wine or a quality single malt scotch.
