This is a song from the Amiga/Atari ST game "Jim Power". Jim Power came out in 1992. Apparently it's famous for its soundtrack. And that's not surprising - Chris Hülsbeck, who made its soundtrack, is awesome. But this song! It sounds REALLY REALLY similiar to the mountain music in Ys III, which I have no idea what it is called. Ys III came out in 1989. SHOCK!!!!! (Or: am I a wrong dood? Of doom?)

Which was first though, Ys or Metroid? ***Quick Trip To Gamefaqs*** Ys for MSX came out in 1987 Metroid for Famicom Disk System came out in 1986 Ouch, that's pretty funny. I am sure that wouldn't fly by today's standards, or there has got to be a cool behind the scenes story involved. Yuzo caught his wife in bed with Genpei So he stole the Metroid jingle.

I thought everyone here already knew about this? I learned about this a few years ago, I don't remember where though, I thought it was here. I recall reading that Chris is a big Ys fan, not sure if it's true though. Here's the PC Engine version, which I own ofcoarse :

xD I never heard the Item Get theme from Metroid, to be honest. " Is it really similar to Ys'?

It seems that Jim Powers ripped off every popular game for snes for his game. The video by ParanoiaDragon near the end shows that big boss which is a robotic version of spawn spore from super metriod, and the jet pack flying shooting stage is a rip from this sega genesis game I remember my friend used to play back in the day. While Tom is right that most companies kinda siphon ideas from each other, they are small and minor, Jim seems to go for the blatant and obvious.

Actually, I think Jim Power(atleast the original Amiga version) came out before Super Metroid, but, I could be wrong. That boss seems to be in every/most versions of the game.

Well, Ys III even came before SNES itself (1989), so I highly doubt Falcom is the one at fault in this occasion

Yalls forgetting that Yngwie Malmsteen did the final battle theme for Mask of the Sun.
(Also The Trial in Chrono Trigger has a lot of similiarity with The Trial from Pink Floyd's The Wall)

They also used Yngwies song for Dawn of Ys, though, with more guitar then the MotS version, yet, less guitar then the original.

I love Chris' work on the Turrican series, and the music in those games does have a Falcom style to it, but this is weird!

Y'know, I kinda feel bad resurrecting this topic, but I actually do kinda have something to add to it. The first time I heard Origin's version of Over Drive, I thought it sounded a lot like The Legend of Dragoon's first boss theme... and actually, now that I listen to both again, it does, in a way. LoD Boss Theme 1, said part starts at ~0:09 YsO's Over Drive, said part starts at ~0:12 EDIT: I guess I just jumped on it without thinking, as is usual. I'm leaving the videos up so you can laugh at my idiocy.

The thing is, the Origin version is pretty heavily modified compared to the original. That's why I didn't use it, because it sounds nothing like the LoD boss theme, while the Origin version has a part very similar.

I don' think the two are similar. Are they?

It's not really blatant, but the one melody is there (~0:09 in the LoD track, ~0:12 in the YsO one). I guess my OCD just gets in the way. Probably doesn't help that I maintain a massive list of crap like this, either. ._.
