I REALLY hope the Mastiff rumor of a US Vantage Mater would come to fruition

Jeffx nailed...sorry for lack of link. Maybe rumor is the wrong word, speculation fits better

How much would it cost to bring Ys Seven over here compared to Sora no Kiseki series or other PSP games in general? I got curious after wyrdwad said that XSEED couldn't bring Sora no Kiseki over here due to financial issues.

That's good to hear. I will definitely send e-mails to XSEED and Mastiff once gameplay videos and promotion vids come out. Hope those vids are good enough to make at least one of those companies to consider localisation, though.

NIS probably wouldn't go for this one. They've only been releasing Nippon Ichi and Gust titles lately. If not Atlus, I think our best bets for Ys 7 would be Konami (because they released Ys 6, and if they're just doing localization, I'm sure they'd do a fine job), XSEED (who are basically becoming Atlus II), or Mastiff (who localized Gurumin, and thus have a prior relationship with Falcom). Also, if you just got your PSP recently, let me know if you want any good recommendations for the system... because believe you me, I got 'em. -Tom Yes I just got it and recommend away! My hope would be that Atlus or XSEED do the translation. I would prefer Atlus over the two since they might offer an edition with swag.

I saw Brave Story in a local FYE but I didn't remember if it was received well. Is the battle system turn based?

I'll second that Brave Story recommendation. Don't listen to the haters, which this game has a LOT of, for no reason whatsoever. I loved every second of it!

Unless something changed since whenever it was, assuming these requests really work, games have to survive individual employee evaluations too before it's given any serious consideration for localization.

I just got myself a copy of Brave Story so I'll be able to tell you if I like it shortly.

Only version I seem to find is 600 pages not 816? I will add my support of Brave Story, a modern classic in a lot of ways

Hmmmmm must have been a problem with Muse or whatever, IIRC EVERY Ebay auction has it listed at 600 pages.
Def going to snag this as the game was a lot of fun. Some knock it for being "to kiddie/basic." I for one find it a bit refreshing that it's not all flash/eye candy like so many newer rpg's.

What were those bugs? I played the game to death and it never crashed on me or anything. You can PM me the answer if you want because this is getting pretty off-topic.

I am playing the US version and I did not see an option to change their equipment. do you know if this is a feature that was removed from later pressings of the game?
I got up to the point where Wataru and Meena joined the hero to capture those bandits. I did not see an option to change their equipment. I just loaded up an earlier save where I still have them in the party and the gamer does not let me change their equipment.

It may just be after you beat the game. Once you've beaten the game, you gain the option to swap the cameo characters into your party at any time, and I believe that's also when you gain the ability to change out their equipment. -Tom I am no where near that point in the game so we'll see what happens when I get there. I would also like to mention that I think the goalfinches are the cutest thing in the game. I just visited the Goalfinch Grove and managed to capture a white and black evolved goalfinch. How many types of evolved goalfinches are there and how do I make more of them? I have really gotten a kick out of the dialogue as well. I happen to think XSEED did a fine job localizing this title. I would certainly be buying more of their games in the future.

Cool. I recently got the beefed up net, too. When do I get the next birdcage? Can I miss getting it? I am at the Desert Ruins so no spoilers past that please.

The real reason a lot of Falcom games are overlooked for localization was stated I believe by Wyrdwad himself earlier! Or someone here on the message board who contacted Mastiff directly...I confirmed that to be true with a current co-worker who worked on the US version of Gurumin for PSP.
Falcom provides SQUAT for localization support, unless they've made a drastic change. For the most, localization is the responsibility of the developer; they patch in the foreign language text and make any edits to the graphics/code necessary to implement the localization. Most publishers foot the bill for the translation of the text and QA testing of the localized versions and marketing but that's about it.
If Ys 7 was a PC product, I'm sure Konami would be the one to make PSP/PS2 ports of it(and Konami's teams are likely to be way more intelligent about localization being an international company.) But since Ys 7 etc are already PSP products, unless Falcom gets a kick in the attitude, they just destroyed their chances of a company wanting to cater to their non-JP fans.
I think it's really sad, but from what I've seen of the ass backward development methods now that I'm here in Japan, I am not at all surprised. Sometimes this industry sucks. ;P

Don't worry, it's impossible to permanently miss it. It's kinda hard to find them both, though... there are two beefed-up birdcages: one that holds 7 birds, and one that holds 10. Whichever you find first upgrades you to the 7, and then the next one upgrades you to the 10. If you have trouble locating either of them by the end of the game, let me know, and I can help you out. IIRC, one of them is in fact IN the Desert Ruins, though the puzzle to get it is extremely obtuse, and involves traveling to three towns to get help from various random villagers. -Tom You're more than welcome to help me before the end of the game you know. I figured I would need to talk to those guys who mention the Desert Ruins so I will be doing some traveling before I do the next part of the story.
