Hello everyone!
I'm a recent fan of Ys - recent as in somewhat recently a friend of mine was playing it on the DS, and I've become hooked ever since I helped them beat the bonus boss of Ys I.
I've played through Ys I & II Eternal Complete for the PC, played through Oath In Felghana (still wanting to know which oath it means!), the SNES version of IV, and just lastnight I finished playing through Expert of Kefin.
All the japanese I remember from my two years for high school is pretty rusty, so mostly I was translating the Katakana - stuff any otaku can do with barely any effort at all. It was fun to get the Taruwaru and realize ooo, I know that sword! But, for a good chunk of the game I had absolutely no clue what was going on, and really only used a walkthrough for a couple of spots (the door in the swamps, the shrine key, and well, I'll be honest, too much of Kefin) so I didn't really get a lot of external help deciphering what was going on.
Beyond the goddess statue in the "press start!" screen, and that Kefin is all floaty, I really couldn't determine just what tied this game in to the larger mythos. The friend that got me hooked lead me to believe Doman was Romunn, and the similarity of how the final boss of 3 looked to the final boss of makes me feel theres some greater connection, but as said, I could barely know where I was going next, much less get the plot, so... anyone have any clue?
Apologies if this was a rambling post, or if this is in another post that I didn't manage to find. For now, it's time to load up VI!
