Was the Mountain Road BGM in NES version ever release don a CD? Is there a "correct" title of this song available?
It's like one of my Ys1 fave tracks but I can't seem to find any info on it..
Oh I think the NES version also had a unique track for the town just before mountain road...

No CD makes that soundtrack available. But I'm most certain it has a name, in which FM-77 (forum admin) might have posted up somewhere in these boards long, long ago.
Also, the X68000 version of Ys I has 2 exclusive soundtracks for it as well. xD They rule.

Not officially on CD, but Atsushi Fukai made a nice arrangement of Mountain Road on his Ys Midi Special II doujin album.

I quite enjoyed this theme as well, though my favorite was probably the "true" final boss theme.
To this day I still hold that high as one of my favorite Ys tunes, and that's saying alot!
Mayhap the world will grace me with a remix one day...

well I guess I'll never be able to hear an official remix version (but the midi file available at various midi websites is good though).

It's the name given to the crater left behind when Ys was raised into the sky. -Tom ... And how the hell do you know that? o.O

Wasn't that the new area you visited in the DS port, the one where you fought Petrorex?
Was it ever referenced in any other game? Will I ever stop asking questions? Finland?

Asking Ys-related question is good.
I don't think this place was referenced in any other game or something like that. If it was, then it was either in Ys ORIGIN [or maybe even in Asteka II? ("Asteka II" is another Falcom game)].

The DS version calls it "Vageaux-Vardette". I think I've seen it mentioned in the SMS and PC versions as well (albeit with totally different names).
The NES tune is something that was probably composed by an in-house musician at Victor, the company that was given the license for the NES ports, and thus will probably never be available on an official CD.

Hmmm... Very interesting! o.O
I didn't notice anyone mentioning that in any Ys I game I've ever played... (By the way, I should finally finish the SMS version... and replay the PC version, since it's been long since I last played it in english.)
Well, I think that's mentioned in the anime then, but anyway, fascinating.

Hm. I have to hunt down that villager now. I'd guess he/she resides in Zetik Village...
I'll post screenshots if I find anything eventually. xD

Well, instead of screenshots, I'll post up "reports" of sorts.
I was playing Ys I DS (english) today and saw two citizens mention that place. Although it isn't too surprising, because afterall that place IS accessable in this version of Ys I. But anyway, here's what the citizens say:
Girl in Minea somewhat near Reah, and behind the bar Fanna: "Past the mountain paths to the north, there's a huge crater called Vageux-Vardette. From what I've heard, the thieves that've been making so much trouble live in that area."
Guy inside the bar of Minea Chest: "Whitefoam Sands, the temple, Vageux-Vardette, and the Dahm Tower... I figured there would always be tourists wanting to see them, but now... Looks like I'll go hungry..." (Before that, he had said: "My job is guiding people to the famous sites of Esteria. But because of the monsters and the Veil (of storms), I have no customers...")
(I also never heard of "Whitefoam Sands" before, whatever that is.)
I'm just letting you know what I find. I know that place wasn't mentioned in any of the Ys I games I've played so far, maybe with the exception of the PC, SMS and NES versions, in which I'll recheck out sometime as well.
