Yes, after all this time, I finally played through and completed Ys VI! When I first tried the demo when it was released, I felt indifferent about it...not horrible...but nothing special. Time went on and I got into Ys I&II Complete, OiF and Ys IV and went back to Ys VI... After giving it a full playthrough, I gotta say I do actually like it. It seemed a wee bit short but still a decent length. I also wasn't that fond of the music. It just wasn't as memorable as some of the others. I feel as though this is my least favorite Ys game (granted, I never fully played through V)...but I still like it nonetheless

I'm surprised you were able to get into I and II before finishing VI. I had a hard time going from Origin's fast-paced hacknslash action to the bump system - so Ys VI certainly felt like less of a step back. Indeed, a fine game, though. Agree on the somewhat lackluster soundtrack. Best normal boss battle music, I think, but other than the nothing stood out too terribly much. Origin and Felghana definitely steal the show in the music department, I think.

To me, Ys VI rules, big time. More than YsF, too. Lots regarding the matter has been said here. (In the Spam thread too when I replayed it in February~April, months ago. xD)

My feelings are pretty close to liquidpolicenauts. I can't say anything bad about it, It just doesn't feel as special as the other Ys games. If I ever replay it, it will be ona different platform.

You found the bump system a step back? Man... I consider it the equal of anything the newer Ys games have to offer. I *love* the bump system, and wish they'd bring it back in full, glorious 3D. -Tom It's not *bad* or anything, it just feels like so much less than what current offerings ... offer! Gotta remember that Origin's gameplay is what drew me in to the series, so the bump system being nothing but arrow keys and running seemed kinda lackluster in comparison. I'd much rather button mash attacks and magic while running.

I already owned and played the Turbo versions for a long time but, after playing part VI, it got me into looking up into the whole Ys series again and finding out about I&II Complete and OiF and making them my first (and pretty much only) PC games (not much of a PC games player). Going back and forth between "bump-and-stab" and "3D jump-and attack" was actually pretty natural

Is it actually full analogue control that way? It still must be 8 directions.

Eh, I don't think it's the controls at all. I like my keyboard setup! I can't fathom why - perhaps it jsut took some getting used to for me - but now that I've started up Ys II, I'm enjoying the bump system a hell of a lot more. Maybe I'm more used to it now, maybe I like the fact that I can level past 10... which says nothing of the battle system itself, but it could be a subconscious thing, I suppose. I DON'T KNOW. But with Ys II, I'm liking it alot more. Even with my keyboard. I'm probably gonna wind up replaying these two at some point. I feel like I should own a version since I was given copies of patched complete and don't have a box or anything to gawk at, so I may pick up Chronicles with VII when that comes out. Money willing! And then I can play them in all their analog glory.

I'm with Wyrd. xD But using the keyboard is also fun. Though I think I should point out this: actually, even using a GamePad with Analog Control, you don't have an absolute 360° control over Adol... he can move to 32 (or 64?) directions. Well, in the end it's almost the same thing, but there is still a slight difference. You can notice it if you play with the mouse instead, or play the PS2 version, in which you DO have absolute control over Adol's directions with the GamePad. The PS2 version rules.

Because no one replied and I figured out I had the wrong version: Is there a way to run non-Vista Ys VI on Vista?

It should run just fine with administrator privileges, and using AppLocale if you haven't installed the translation patch. If all else fails, try compatibility mode?
