Recently, I tried to install Ys II Complete without the translation patch (for my speedrun), but it seems like I can't load any save files; they're grayed out on the load screen. Not only that, but the location text on the save/load screens is the same no matter where I try and save. Also, the save file picture doesn't show up on the save/load screens, but there's nothing wrong when trying to load the save file in a paint program.
This wasn't an issue with the patch installed, so what's going on? I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the game multiple times, using the three different options in the setup program (the first one is grayed out, though), but nothing. I've tried manually copying the files from the DVD to the harddrive, but again, nothing. Running the game in Applocale doesn't seem to work either.
Any help anyone may be able to provide would be appreciated.

Got it working. You apparently need to set the computer's regional settings to Japanese, something I thought I tried earlier, but didn't (was messing around with the language settings). Weird that this problem doesn't seem to apply to Ys I unpatched.

Sorry Yukin, just now noticing this. Don't know if I'll be of much help, though... Just to be clear, when you try and load, the save file is grayed out? When you save in different areas (Rance Village vs. outside Rance Village), is the location text on the save/load screen the same, or different? Anyway, have you tried running the game under Applocale? My settings are the same as yours (might want to change the "Standards and formats" to Japanese as well), except the non-Unicode is set to English (United States). Aside from that, my only other suggestion is to apply the English patch, as that should automatically make it so Japanese mode isn't required.

Daemon tools might be an option, if you havent tried already. Other than that it sounds like your copy is faulty.
