Just read this on the GameFAQs forum (posted by user Werzaque):
"Skills have experience points. You gain 1 point for using the skill once. Your allies also get one point for skills used in response to your skills.
You gain 1 additional point per use if the weapons you are using "has" that skill. You gain 1 to 3 additional points per use when equipping special accessories.
Maximum is 5 points per use IIRC."
And then:
"Necklace that adds 1 EXP: fire palace (first visit) Necklace that adds 2 EXP: earth shrine (second visit) Necklace that adds 3 EXP: sea shrine (second visit)"
I believe the accessory in question is the 鍛錬の首輪 (Necklace of Discipline) I - III.
The description of these things always give me the impression that the SKILL LEVEL increases when equipped meaning if you're using a level 1 skill, it'll become level 3 with a NoD II.
Never figured that it'd do the experience thing though so I'm just posting this for the benefit of others still playing or replaying the game.
BTW, for those that don't know, skills have milestone levels meaning that they'll drastically change in strength or animation, area of effect, etc. when they reach level 5 and then level 10 (max) so it's always in your best interest to get skills above level 5 for super spiffy damage! :D

Good info, thanks! The skill system has always seemed like a bit of a mystery to me, so it's good to see there's some rhyme and reason to it. ;) Actually, I'm iffy on the level 5 & 10 strength increase thing but I find it ODD that the guidebook would only show level 1, level 5, and then level 10. D: I would take it that skills gradually increase as they level. :/ For sure, the range and whatnot DO happen at level 5 though.

I haven't seen this adressed, and maybe it's a silly thing... but which are the implications of the DEX character status? I can guess that STR is for damage, DEF for defense, AGI for movement and attack speed, but DEX?

Sorry for the double post, because I haven's seen this explained in any other post, but what is the function of each support skill?

Nice! It seems that Adol's support skill doesn't look very useful compared with the rest (Geis omg).

Wasn't expecting the fight so I didn't save beforehand, but yeah I lost and no game over or anything. I just moved on though because I didn't want to go back to a save that was probably an hour back.

whats the requirement for getting new skills? I only have 5 of them right now for my main char, and when I checked the list there are like 7 more with question marks that I don't know how to unlock yet and I'm at the near end of the game, any tips anyone?
oh yeah, another question, any hidden optional boss in this game besides the ones on the quests?

whats the requirement for getting new skills? You get them from weapons. Check the skill levels of the skills on the weapons you have. If they're at 0, then you gotta level them to level 1 in order for them to be permanently selectable from your skill list. Otherwise, if you remove the weapon, you remove the skill. No.

Er... stupid question time! I sort of looked through the other threads and even this one, but didn't really find the answer, soooo.... either I'm blind, or the question I'm about to ask is so very stupid that it probably doesn't even require asking. :'D But! I shall ask anyways! I remembered you guys talking about ultimate weapons for everyone, with Adol's being one which had the properties of all three forms of attack types, ne? And they were only found through synthesizing, ne? How, when, where exactly will I find these weapons? Are they only found after a certain stage in the game? Or have they been there all along and I've just not realized it, with my ignorance? Are they synthesizable only in a certain shop, or will they be there in all?

Before heading off to the final dungeon or during the final dungeon. You need to have at least some of the material. for the weapon for it to show up. How much? Not sure.
You just need to go under the synthesis tab to see it.

Aaaand.... I just discovered that, right now. Thanks for your help! I guess I got over-hyper, wondering where on earth those weapons were. :'D (Had I not known that Adol's would hold the properties of all three, I might just have thought that big, huge, blunt sword his final weapon and gone off on me merry way. X'D)
By random chance, I warped to Iska right after the.... final dungeon revelation event. :'D
And now I see I need me some odd looking woods and stones and other materials, none of which I appear to possess, despite collecting away on everything like a loon. I'm assuming the materials are IN the final dungeon? :/ (Ah well... I guess that means more fun fighting! Drag this game out further!!)

Grinding reminds me.... at what level did you have everyone's skills by the end? Because I just ended up randomly grinding LOADS (though it was enjoyable grinding.... :'D) just to be a freak and make them learn all the skills in all their weapons, even though I'll never use them.
....And now, seeing how slow THAT was, getting each of their chosen skill to 10 will take kind of.... long? No? :'D
(Doesn't help either that I have no clue which weapon gave them what skill! So I can't use that to my advantage! [Because having the weapon of the certain skill equipped makes the leveling up easier, ne?])

On my playthrough I only had to hunt mats for 1-2 extra hours tops to get everyone's final weapons, armors, bracelts, etc. I never sat and ground xp during the game but I did kill almost everything in my path and always stopped at gathering points. If you need any mats in particular, let me know what they are and I can scrounge my memory for where the optimal hunting grounds are. I think the longest it took me to gather enough of any one material was 20min. (it was that one stone that EVERYONE needs tons of for their weapons and armor, I think)
The rate at which Skills level up did stand out to me. While it was pretty easy to ensure everyone had all of their skills, maxing all skills would probably take forever. By the end of my playthrough I had only 2 skills maxed for Adol and that was it.
