The one that's extremely linear until you drain the water -- and thus, lower the bridges? ...ah crap, it's that chest on the platform that I couldn't figure out how to "jump" on, isn't it?

OH!!! Duh, I've had that ability equipped all along, too! I'm... surprised I haven't thought of it, actually! XD I tried rolling onto that platform. Well, time to start 'er up!

Alright, thanks, I got it! Now... just out of curiousity; where do I get the walk/run exp/sp items -- or their ingredients? XD Is it really even worth getting those anymore? ...and just for the hell of it, is there a translation of the "options" available?

I remember wondering if you needed to use Adol's one jump skill to get some of those chests and I thought I found ways to get them all without jumping. Like in the water dungeon, the room above the one unreachable chest has a bunch of whirlpools dropping you down. One of those drops you onto the chest. I don't think Falcom intended for the player to use skills to jump, as it's sort of cheating and helps you bypass some puzzles. Nonetheless, I used the hell out of that! Also, I think there are a number of skills that can accomplish this but the easiest one is Adol's one 40sp skill where he slashes a few times, jumps up, and meteors down diagonally.

I'd love to know where that section is 'cause I never used it in my game, either. And I don't recall seeing any area that I couldn't find a way to get to.
The tricky ones were in the area with the ice bridges and high winds where you sometimes had to drop from higher ledges and land on certain platforms. And then there was also one ledge where you had to jump off, cross a screen transition, and manage to land on one small opening of an otherwise fenced off ledge. The new area leads to a long stairway that goes up the entire east side of the area and drops you off at the top. Took me 5 tries to do it, but I made that jump with only rolling and good aim.

Out of curiosity, what skill is this you speak of? I don't know if I ever got it.

No, there's definitely at least one section of one dungeon where Adol's skill is the ONLY way to get up there. Even the strategy guide tells you to do that, and there's simply no other way to get to that section. For some of the other places where I ended up using Adol's skill, I can see there being an alternate means of reaching that area... but I can say with absolute certainty that there is ONE SECTION where you MUST use Adol's skill. -Tom See, this is why I frequent these boards. I don't have the guide and had no idea that area existed. As a point of fact, if you guys are thinking of the same skill as I am, it's also quite damaging. Definitely a keeper.

I'd like to see a scan. I meant to go try to find the area described yesterday but forgot about it by the time I got home from the gym.
My final 4 on Adol are -the quick slash while dashing forwards (for mobility. Great for getting behind enemies) -the overhead ground smash (for stun) -the fast series of forward pokes followed by a big finish (I dunno.. looks cool) -the pentagram slash (the damage! look at the damage!!)

Thank you.
I'm gonna fire up Ys SEVEN after I finish my run tonight and see if this area IS the one I am thinking of.
If it is (the map looks like it is, but I wanna see in game to be sure), then you don't need Quick Break to get there. Also if this is the area I'm thinking of, kudos to Falcom for making it so difficult to get to that some people thought it was impossible without abusing certain Skills.
EDIT: btw, my method was to drop from the second area, go through the screen transition, and land on the section the guide says you will be coming out of the hidden area from. It took me a few tries because it's a blind jump and I ended up using the textures on the ground from where I was jumping from to gauge.

ALoY, eternally proving that people see things in different ways.
To me when I saw the exit, I knew there had to be some point I could jump from and land there. That made more sense to me in a dungeon that had multiple other places where you had to drop off, fall a screen, and land on a small platform with a chest. At least it made more sense to me than having to use a Skill to act as a jump when doing so was not necessary at all anywhere else in the game. If using that Skill was the only way and was the intended way, then that would be poor level design in my book because Skills can be missed (albeit unlikely). Without that skill the area would truly be unreachable. On the other hand jumping off a higher ledge is available no matter what.

Verified it's the same location. The jump is even easier than I thought because there's no screen transition after all, only a map transition. I got it on my second try. I'm almost tempted to record it but it'd be pretty ghetto.. like my PSP hooked up to my TV and my digital camera recording it.

So I ended up making a short little movie showing off the 2 different ways to access the area in question. I don't actually have a Youtube account so.. um.. here www.mediafire.com/?yto12mem3tmIf anyone wants to upload it for prosperity or some junk, go right ahead.

So Im new to Ys and do multiple accessories double the effects? Reason is Ive got enough to buy 3 bandits gloves and they are pretty steep in price and didnt know if it would be worth the investment.

I believe they're stackable; I have luck medals on *all* of my characters and I've noticed it makes a huge difference. If only one character had a luck medal, his/her pickups would be rare alone, and everyone else would just pick up the more common pieces. I've tested this by collecting water; getting 6 rare waters is better than say 2 rare waters or all commons. So if this is true with say the bandit's glove, then everyone's kills will ensure that you get more gold per kill!
