Not sure if there is a thread already for this, but I'm curious as to who the hardest Ys bosses were for the peeps around here. For those of us who have not played the games mentioned here, THERE MAY BE SPOILERS, though that seems to be in the nature of the thread. I'm going to break my list up by game in case someone doesn't want to look at the bosses from a specific game *cough* Ys7 *cough*
Here's my list (implies nightmare difficulty where applicable):
Ys1 (TCD version) -That goddam bat boss
OiF -Guilen (That lava dragon) -Gildia (The ice dragon) -Chester round 2 -Galbalan
YsO (both of these were with Toal) -Galleon (The knight in charge of Yunica's group) -Darm
Btw, I just got finished watching Chester (round 2, nightmare) fly around the stage and dance on my corpse on the 'Game Over' screen. That's what spawned this thread in the first place.

Oh yeah, well said, Wyrd. xD I never reeeeeally had that much trouble with Ys bosses (sure, there were some hard fights, but it wasn't too much), but now you brought up... the terror! =o
Ys VI - Majunun (on Nightmare, more specifically) Because it's a pain to grind to lv60. xD

By the way, does Ys Online count? xD Kalimegas RAID sure is a pain in the ass... even when you're overleveled. edit: And Seal Tower of Sea Evil's boss. I never saw THAT one falling ever before. ><

Dark Fact pisses me off.

Dark Fact in Ys I Chronicles took me at least 30 tries to beat. At least.

Oh yeah, Dark Fact is quite hard on Nightmare. xD By the way, since the PS2 version's Nightmare mode is actually harder than the rest's Nightmare mode... omg. I never tried facing him under that circumstance. Yet.

Vagullion, Yog & Omu (both on Nightmare difficulty only) and SNES Galbalan are the main ones that come to mind. Dark Fact, too, but at least that battle goes quickly.

Long as you're max level, though, Dark Fact is a pushover! ... On normal mode, anyway. -Tom You hit max level like 2 hours before you even see him. Even on normal, my first playthrough I took SO many tries to kill that insipid bastard. There were many utterances of "FUCK!" before it was done.

I had to resort to frame rate limiting to beat Dark Fact my first time. On Normal.
Yeeeeeeah. When I'm having that much trouble, you know it's not a good boss.

Hmm, I've only played the DS and TCD versions of Ys1&2 and never found him to be at all difficult. But then again, even hard mode on the DS was a breeze and the TCD only had one difficulty if memory serves. Darm gave me some trouble on that one until getting to max level.

I'm very bad with boss names (bad memory ho!) but.... the hardest boss ever for me, I think, was Zeva from Ys II? Did I get that name right? Meh god, she was annoying! D: She actually made Majunuun look like a pushover! I was decently leveled enough when I first faced her, and she and her wretched minions blew my Adol away with a single puff swoop. >___>''' I think.... I had to level to the max to actually be able to defeat her/it. :'D Ah.... and I play everything on easy. But everyone knows THAT! The second memorably hard boss was the first boss from Ys IV: Mask of the Sun. (Name? Name? ) Perhaps it was because he was the first boss I had to face, but meh god, he was a pain! T___T The hardest in the whole game even! Everyone after him were pushovers though~ Final big boss included! And I guess the third hardest boss I found was... the one at the end of the Cave Lake in Ys VI? What was it called....? Ah! Orjugan....? (Just looked him up in the walkthrough! :'D) Anyways! A true pain he was! Still is infact! I just could not get the timing right between hitting the missiles he sprouted out, hitting those hands, and, well.... argh! Also, I used to get so frustrated that I used to just switch over to Blirante in hope of getting in some long distance attacks, but does that even work? >___>' Anyways! Most painful boss that was! X(

I think Dark Fact was really tough. I always get trapped between some disappearing tiles and die. He's not the hardest, though. The hardest Ys boss for me was, by far, Ernst in Ys VI.
And on a semi-related note, my favorite boss battle is the second duel with Chester in OiF.

Agreed, the 2nd Chester fight is plenty of fun even on nightmare as it actually feels like a clash between extremely skilled swordsmen. I just beat him at last and was only able to by whoring the boost mode.

I never had any problems with the end bosses in Ys III/F, but that damn boss fight on the bridge was a pain in the ass.

Speaking of Galbalan from the Ys IIIs, MP83 and I both agree that the one from X68000 version is the hardest, even on Normal. xD (The game also has Hard mode... ) And Yakra: that Ys II boss is "Zava", you got the name almost 100% right. xD And the first Ys IV MotS boss is Lemnos, that friend/boyfriend/whatever of Karna. And yeah, actually, Orjugan was among the trickiest bosses in Ys VI, in my opinion. Especially on Nightmare, with the many extra nuisances... And, yeah, Dark Fact is ridiculously easy on the TCD version. xD And all Ys I/II DS bosses, too. By the way, I agree with Korzic: I think those two bosses are among the hardest ones ever, on Nightmare mode. Especially Vagullion, who's traumatizing for many people. xD I think there were cases in which people stopped playing the game because of him, even. (Mutagene? xD)

Especially Vagullion, who's traumatizing for many people. xD I think there were cases in which people stopped playing the game because of him, even. (Mutagene? xD) Vagullion wasn't that hard after a few tries, and same with Yogleks and Omulgun. I managed to beat both of them with persistence. But Dark Fact is another story entirely. I had to freaking rig the game to beat him, and BARELY. Also, am I weird for finding most of the bosses in YsF kinda meh? Gildias and Galbalan are the only ones I really liked, the former mainly because it's embarrassingly amusing ramming his legs with the earth dash. I do agree with Wyrd on Origin having the best bosses by far... however, I hate Nygtilger with a passion, as cool as its battle may be. I can barely beat him on Normal with Toal, while on the same settings I can beat most of the other bosses without getting scratched. That reminds me. It'd suck if Origin was Toal-free. olololo--*gets shot* /me runs off to a Toal booth. EDIT: Oh, I kinda liked Death Faleon too, even if it was INSANELY CHEAP. Not as cheap as the mech thing, though. Haaaaate.

I can't speak for Ys ORIGIN, but the YsF bosses actually were pretty normal to me: a bit above average, but nothing too special. Just cool Ys stuff as usual.
By the way, speaking of AMAZING boss fights, I think, of all Ys games, Ys IV DoY gets the cake for having the best boss fights ever. Seriously. I don't think a game ever needed a Boss Rush mode as much as this one. <3 DoY ~

I actually enjoyed the boss fights in OiF more than anything. Galbalan was totally badass and the difficulty curve was pretty forgiving! Once you figured out what to do it wasn't that hard. Galb's probably my favorite boss evar, for what that's worth~ See, now, with Dark Fact, you know what to do after you die the first time. But you keep dying. And dying. And Dying. AND RAGING. And then you almost beat him that one time but you DIED, so you didn't. Then you die and rage some more. And then you win and you hate everything. That reminds me. It'd suck if Origin was Toal-free. olololo--*gets shot* /me runs off to a Toal booth. ...... SO. DUMB. >________________________________<

I heard Origin is kinda story-heavy, so playing in Japanese is a very big no-no for me.

I didn't read anything when I played Origin, and I've beaten it 8 or so times, and I still love it.
