For those of us that played TCD Ys1... did anyone else think the tower music went from totally awesome to gut-wrenchingly bad the longer it dragged on? By the time I get to Dark Fact, the short guitar solo midway through the song makes me want to put my foot through the TV. Last time I played through, my flatmate was sitting in the room and working on a paper. By the end the night he was singing along with the solo in the most awful screeching voice he could produce. Truly horrific.
Edit: Also as far as boss themes (and really most tracks in general) go, Ys is IMO a cut above the rest of the video game world. I really -really- love their music to the point that I have to put it on my MP3 player and bounce down the road to it.
Anyway I'm gonna have to say Vacant Interference is my favorite, followed by in no particular order Ernst, The Depth Napishtim, Scars of the Divine Wing, Holders of Power, The Strongest Foe, and Mighty Obstacle. I'd put more Ys7 tracks in there, but I haven't played the game yet and therefore haven't heard them... I only let myself listen to a handful of songs from the game and Vacant Interference was luckily one of them.
Heh, how's that for an edit...

The part from 00:37 of Armored Bane = 00:56 from Battle #58. OK, not an arrangement, but certainly an homage! As for Redmont theme, my favourite version is the SNES one. It feels eerily nostalgic even though I'm just 18! Very weird yet lovely.

sgp6: Yes, I agree. That's the only reason I don't like it. At least in Origin, it doesn't *get to* last long enough to be annoying... but I've played so much Ys I, that song's pretty much ruined for me.

The DoY version of the song really rules though, I think listening to that version might just cure your dislike for it.
But the Origin version was awful, way too dull. It always bores me to hell when I start a new game.

Eh, that doesn't work for me. I've played just about every Ys game (with the exception of Strategy and Online). That song gets old, no matter what they do to it.

Love the video accompanying it. Definitely sounds like a song that would really grow on me over time. I swear, Falcom's town themes are the best of all time. SO MANY Falcom games have such great town themes... I mean, in the Ys series alone, Redmont aside, there's also Tears of Sylph in Ys I, Too Full With Love and Colony of Lava in Ys II, Promalock and On the Other Side of the Recollection in Ys IV, Stormy Town and In The Cradle in Ys V, Gratitude For Nature's Blessings and Reconciled People in Ys VI, and pretty much every town theme in Ys Seven... and then you've got Harlech from Xanadu Next, Puck Village from Zwei!!, Town of Artte from Zwei II (and the other town themes ain't half bad in that game either!), My Pace Monsters from Gurumin, and another huge assortment of great town themes from the Legend of Heroes series... I mean, seriously, Falcom is known for their rock tracks, but they're easily just as good at making catchy, memorable, evocative town themes. Most of my favorite town themes in all of RPGdom come from Falcom games, in fact! ... So yeah, that's my fanboying for the night. -Tom You missed the best Falcom town theme of all! EDIT: AAH, found it, thanks to GMF!

I just finished OiF and I found Galbalan the most challenging out of III and VI. Also, did anyone feel they were in a world of OoT with Ganondorf during the last half of the boss fight?! You mean world of Link to the Past with Aghanim ;P But yeah, Galbalan's final phase always reminds me of Zelda games.. 'cept they didn't have danmaku bullet patterns and rape holes.

Yeah, it actually made those two little things made the part a lot more challenging. I must have attempted the nightmare time trial for him 50 time (literally, I was there for hours) and only got to that part a handful of times. And every time I got my ass kicked. I have to stop thinking about it or I'll go back to it.

The one good thing about danmaku in Ys games: you can jump over the bullets. If you're a pussy.

I actually find the bullets in Seven easier to deal with despite the lack of jumping, though largely because there's not many of them compared to, say, Duless in Origin, who is probably my favorite boss from the game. Or Pikkardon. Who shits bullets like bunnies breed.
Flash guarding is pretty easy for me, though, despite the fact that I am REALLY twitchy and have shit reflexes.

I thought the flash guard thing was fairly easy to do, at least against larger enemies and bosses when you're expected to be dodging and blocking a lot more. I normally just roll out of the way of attacks since its easier to do, but those difficult-to-avoid attacks are perfect candidates for flash guard. And since those attacks are harder to avoid, more often than not, you're looking out for them and ready to guard at the right time. Especially against the colosseum beast Adol fights, flash guard is a real life saver.

On Hard and Nightmare, if you don't use flash guard against the coliseum boss, you WILL die consistently. Unless you are REALLY DAMN GOOD at rolling.
I think the main reason I ever flash guard is because it gives so much EX. It's a lifesaver just in that regard.

I've never wanted to throw my PC more than when I was fighting that FUCKING tiger in Valestein Castle in Oath

That is one of those bosses that I stay away from and shoot fireballs at the whole fight. He's way too unpredictable for me. It doesn't make for the most epic of fights running away the whole time, but it's a fairly solid strategy, at least for me.

In my case:
Ys 1 Ancient Ys Vanished Omen: - Vagullion - Yogleks & Omulgun
Ys 2 Ancient Ys Vanished Omen The Final Chapter: - Darm (Famicom Version, because in Ys 2 Complete is easy).
Ys 3 Wanderers from Ys: I don't remember...
Ys 4 Mask of the Sun: Most of them (Eldeel is not included because his difficulty is balanced), because you can hurt them at specific moment & good timing.
Ys 5 Lost Kefin Kingdom of Sand: I don't remember...
Ys 6 Ark of Napishtim: - Orjugan - Lana Luna - Majunun - Ernst - Napishtim (Part 2)
Ys Seven: I have not played this version yet...
Ys Origin: As Yunica: - Kishgal - Pictimos - Dulles As Hugo: - Thor - Kishgal As Thor: - Pictimos - Darm (Hard & Nightmare)
Ys Oath in Felghana: - Gildias (Hard & Nightmare) - Death Faleon - Zirduros - Dularn 2 (Hard & Nightmare) - Garland (Hard & Nightmare) - Galbalan (Hard & Nightmare) - Berhard (Can only be found after defeat Galbalan in Time Attack via Boss Rush and on Nightmare Difficulty).
They are all the bosses I remember...

I don't think there's a boss in OiF that I was able to beat in less than 5 tries. Even the easy ones require having their programming down pat.
