I'm sure this has been discussed thoroughly on these boards but does anyone know why Ys 4 hasn't been remade. It seems like a sure thing in terms of popularity and if they used the Ys 7 or OiF engine, it would probably not be even all that hard to do. It was a good game and a remake would probably be even better. </confused>

I know alot of people 'round these parts have been wishing for a definitive remake of Ys IV a la VI/OiF/Origin engine. Why this hasn't happened, I dunno. I still have to play through MotS and DoY, myself! :X

Yeah, this HAS been thoroughly discussed all over ALoY many times. xD We mostly have theories, but pretty strong ones.
To name a few: DoY is more liked and popular, yet it is said it differed the most from the original script given by Falcom. Therefore, if Falcom remakes MotS, fans may be angry or be unsatisfied, however remaking DoY would also mean the original story would be lost. Besides, Falcom never made Ys IV themselves, but only Tonkinhouse and Hudson (and Sega Falcom was supposed to finish their own version(s) too). Therefore, I can't help it, but wonder if remaking Ys IV wouldn't involve copyright issues or something. (Though since Taito made the PS2 one a decade later, I guess probably not?)
Anyway, tons of people hope and always hoped for an Ys IV ETERNAL. *is one of those people* xD

I don't think it's necessary to have other playable characters in the Ys 7 engine. I mean, that was one of the larger features of it, but it can still operate in single character play. When you guys say Ys 4 eternal, it brings to mind I & II eternal (top down, ram into enemies) but I'd rather it be more like an OiF.
Edit: Also, I feel like someone should email them asking about it, but I recall reading somewhere on these boards that their English is basic at best and that they'd have trouble understanding the message.

I'd like it to be in the same vein of the Eternal games, also because Ys IV DID make use of the bumping system like Ys I and II. xD I also enjoy the bumping system more, I think... or dunno, it depends on my mood. I'm fine with any system though. xD

I said before that I think Falcom WILL do it since they've never done Ys IV before. I'm pretty sure it's next on the list but is just taking a while for some unknown reason. :3
Maybe IV will be the next big announcement this year!?!?!?!?
But what to want more? Ys SEVEN PC or Ys IV remake? Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm~~~

Therefore, I can't help it, but wonder if remaking Ys IV wouldn't involve copyright issues or something. (Though since Taito made the PS2 one a decade later, I guess probably not?) Ok so here is my theory.... Crazy but maybe..... Taito have made the most recent remake.... Taito is now part of Square Enix..... So..... Why potentially release something that conflicts with SE's properties??? I am of course assuming that Ys IV as a 'license' is held by Taito Corporation and not directly held by Falcom. Either that or something more sinister is a foot (check out the conspiracy.... lol) such as some kind of 'Namco x Capcom' type of thing in the works? Ha ha!! Total madness!! I don't think that its got anything to do with 'fanbase' at all. I mean Falcom released Ys III which although I personally enjoyed it, it seemed to disappoint some of the fans with its platform craziness! I strongly feel its Taito/SE takeover all the way!! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taito_Corporationen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_EnixThen again I tend to be wrong about most things!

Oh, I never said it was NECESSARY... I just think it'd be AWESOME!! I mean, can you imagine how cool it would be to play as Karna?! It would kick ass! And based on the game's story, it would also MAKE TOTAL SENSE. Ys IV could really be QUITE EASILY adapted to use multiple party members. Like, it wouldn't even really take changing the story very much, if at all! -Tom I guess my point is that I like playing as Adol alone and not worrying about other characters. Granted, they always bring in party members with the best equipment available and at a decent level with a couple of skills already learned... and yeah, it'd be sweet to play as Karna... I just would like it to feel more like a single character game with another companion every now and then. Sort of exactly like they did it in Ys IV. Why did I imagine the Joker saying the title of this thread? xD lol, I'll have to use that title format in the future

Well, Ys III wasn't a port... xD
But anyway, the problem is, since Falcom never made Ys IV themselves, anything they use for their own Ys IV that is present exclusively in a given version would be... complicated, I think. Like, the PS2 version's last boss and exclusive events, how each elemental sword had very important meanings and uses in the PS2 version, how the events in DoY are tied to Ys I & II (like Sieg Fact), exclusive DoY characters, exclusive MotS characters etc.. If Falcom doesn't necessarily hold the rights for all, if not at least most of, those things, I think they would have to be veeeery cautious when making Ys IV.

I'm pretty positive that Ys 4 will be remade with the Ys 7 engine. I think elements of MotS & DoY will be used. Probably won't have Arem in it, nor Seig Fact, & will either have Garuda or Eldeel as the final boss is my guess. Will it have Far Beyond the Sun? Hard to say, I don't think the Taito game did.

The only reason this would've been bad, is if Taito originally made Ys IV, and held the copyright. Here's an example: Legend of Sayuki / Snow Girls' Winter Blast -- Yukinko Daisenpuu / Heavenly Guardian was originally going to be Kiki Kai World 2 -- the next Pocky and Rocky game. Star-Fish was making it, but after Taito joined/merged with Square-Enix, Star-Fish had trouble with Taito. Why? Because Taito was originally responsible for all Kiki Kai titles. So what happened? Star-Fish changed the characters (Pocky and Rocky became Sayuki and Koyuki), the theme, the power-ups, and to a lesser extent, the gameplay. The maps, however, have remained largely similar. Then the game which was originally supposed to be Kiki Kai World, became known as Legend of Sayuki (Europe) / Snow Girls' Winter Blast -- Yukinko Daisenpuu (Japan) / Heavenly Guardian (USA). Ys IV was only licensed to Tonkin House, Hudson, and Taito. Be thankful that Ys IV isn't a Taito property; they may have handled the license pretty poorly (according to general consensus), but Falcom still holds the copyright and therefore, the rights to Ys IV. Ys V was also by Falcom and Taito, the same holds true for that. I can't wait for a remake of Ys V!

All I know is I've been hitting the Ys IV Perfect soundtrack pretty heavily the last couple of days. Music always seems to be the forerunner to me replaying a video game.

It's certainly pretty weak as a game, but the truth is, one CAN enjoy it. I liked how you can get the stones for alchemy from normal enemies, and how the magic system as a whole has been completely changed. Anyway, I think you're right, and I DO hope you are. xD

Nope. I'm still missing IV and V from my PS2 collection, and IV from my SNES collection.

I think it has not gotten a remake yet because Falcom themselves can't think of a way to top the PCE version, so they're just pretending to have forgotten all about this game while brainstorming like crazy. If it ever gets remade I don't really know what style they should use... I love the bumping, but we already have that now so I say to just let them go crazy. At least no Ys7 engine for I do not wish to farm for my Baathu ash Music always seems to be the forerunner to me replaying a video game. Hah, same here. I often get this urge to revisit a game after heavily enjoying the soundtrack again. Had this with Armored Core 4A last week.

Heh, and here I thought I was alone in that. Pretty sure I am around here anyways. Before I was an avid internets user, I'd replay games JUST to hear the music 'cause I didn't know where else to listen to it. I must've replayed Sonic 2/3 through 100 times each just to enjoy the music. I even did a speedrun of FFX just to listen to the music from the final battle with Seymour again, haha - probably the craziest thing I ever did.
