What would be awesome is the boxart would be a PICKARD.

What would be awesome is the boxart would be a PICKARD. Ha! ONE BIG PIKKARD! <3 But to sgp6's point, colourful covers with characters tend to grab attention more than classy-just-logo works so I can completely understand XSEED's decision to include the main characters on their cover. Thing is, maybe the layout could been more like the cover of the complete guide? I think that's quite eye-catching! (It's the same poses for the characters afterall. :P) Personally, I adore simplistic designs and really like stuff like the FFIX JP booklet cover. It's a shame that buyers on this side of the world NEED BIG PICTURES. (I think our giant sized guidebooks are a testament to that.)

While I DO like classy simple covers, I think I'm definitely one of those people who prefer pretty art to a classy logo on a cover. :'D
That said though, I don't think I'm quite fond of this first tentative boxart, or whatever it is. :'D It's not THAT horrendous, simply because the artwork is just very pretty, but.... as Unsavory pointed out, the logo is just looking off~ :/ Perhaps it's that huge yellow-ness?
Hrm~ I kind of, sort of wish the soundtrack mini artwork had been used on the actual cover. :'D Super wishful thinking!

From a Graphic Design standpoint, the Japanese one is objectively better, but like people are saying it's not going to help sell as many copies. Maybe in this case we should let it slide, Ys Seven needs as much sales support as it can get..

That's what I was thinking. But yeah, a giant pikkard would be a sweet box art too. Maybe also put in some visual elements to show that it's sitting in the back of the deepest darkest cave imaginable or maybe on top of a mountain.

Maybe they'll change the entire game to be about the legend of the Five Pikkards of Altago

I am just now realizing that this is the first internally developed Falcom game to EVER be released in the US
That's..that's incredible

Aah, okay, I guess Mastiff just published it then. I usually forget Gurumin when talking about this sort of stuff but I don't know why because it really was a pretty neat game

Sorry, but you are incorrect, as Gurumin PSP was already released stateside, and that was Falcom's first internally-developed PSP title. -Tom IIRC Gurumin was fairly successful for Mastiff wasn't it? I'm surprised they didn't go for Zwei!! PSP.

Didn't someone around here mention that Falcom just sort of drops everything onto the localization publisher and doesn't really help in other ways?
Perhaps that's the reason Mastiff didn't want to deal with Falcom any further?
Or maybe it was the cost of the licenses for the other games?
Hmm~

When Gurumin was released I worked in the gamestop two doors down from said office and thus not only got the chance to meet people, and learn how they work but also got a ton of Gurumin merchandise shoved down my throat. Mastiff is kinda broke. There are casual and even Indie studios that make more. Thir track record is also very hit or miss. One day Gungrave overdose the next Shimano sports. They aren't the most reliable company (the office i mentioned was shut down a while ago) That likely had more to do with them not pursuing other titles.

Was Ys 6 not developed internally? I guess I'm confused; I know a lot of Ys games have come to NA. Were none of them developed directly by falcom?

I believe Sorcerian was published by Sierra who is now Activision. Sorcerian was developed in-house.

I dunno who did the DOS ports of Ys I and Sorcerian I believe those are Broderbund and Sierra. I may be wrong, but I certainly feel right.
