Is the PSP2 supposed to cater to some new media format that would render the UMD useless or something? I don't see how the announcement of a new PlayStation Portable system can affect things.
Or is the jump that drastic like the PlayStation to PlayStation 2? Even then, it took a while for the PS to phase out, didn't it? D:
And look at things with the PS3 and PS2! Companies are still releasing stuff for the PS2~~~
Also, XSEED should be at PAX West. With lots of free swag that I can take home with me. XD XD XD

If XSEED sends me a Ys t-shirt, I'll be a walking billboard for them!

As Varion mentioned, there's a high probability that if the PSP2 is announced, it'll be UMD-less... Oooh. PSN only. D:!!!! I think a lot of companies are pushing for digital downloads now so I guess it's not too much of a surprise. :|!

Maybe Nintendo's big announcement is a Wii remake of The Dawn of Ys or Lost Kefin Given how the last two remakes turned out, I think that the next time we see IV or V it'll be Falcom themselves behind it. A New Theory was agressively painful in not only general awfulness but in how much wasted potential there was and Lost Kefin was only better because the original version of V had so much more room for improvement than either version of IV. If anything Ys goes to the Wii, it'll be another straight port a la I-II.

But then how do we get our limited edition drama cds and OSTs and other extra stuff? They'll have digital bonuses. ^^! I think they had extra wallpapers or something weird for Felghana PSP pre-orders via download service??? But yeah, physically holding Falcom stuff is the best. As for DoY or Kefin coming out on Virtual Console ... wouldn't that be a little too much for VC given that most games are ones that are already in English? I think the ones that were originally import only have minimal text to begin with? I dunno. I'm just thinking that they'd need to price it accordingly to the time and effort for translating those games. :\ ........ Or I guess they can just use the existing DoY script and plug it into the thing. XD But ... but ... THE DUBBING. And I forgot (and too lazy to Google) -- is there a completed patch for Kefin?

They did have custom theme downloads and wallpapers if memory serves. I actually got my copy that way, no preorder required. I don't think downloading an OST onto the PSP would work well though, haha.

I actually loved Ys V on SNES though, not gonna lie

Even though that would be a big mistake on Sony's part, it wouldn't at all surprise me.

No thanks, I have those too , plus I'm trying to someday have a complete Falcom collection (probably barring impossible obscurities like Computer the Golf and Galactic Wars) I actually just ordered Lord Monarch and the Famicom version of Ys I

As me and wyrdy agreed in the other thread, I think the spectacular failure of the Go would discourage Sony from trying a download-only handheld for a while. It only works for Apple with the iDevices because the games are small and cheap.

Does anyone know what the time frame is on the PSP2, if they announce it? I agree that the games will be exclusively downloaded. I can't see them doing away with the UMD with the PSP-Go, and then right back to it with the PSP2. All I know is that I'll be none too happy if the new Ys games only come out on the PSP2, because I won't buy any system that plays games that I can't buy and hold physically in my hand.

I really don't see the issue with the advent of the PSP2. Like I mentioned before, the PS2 isn't even phased out yet and it took a while for PlayStation support to disappear when the PS2 came out so unless XSEED is releasing the games 10 years later, I'm sure it'll be fine. >_>

I can't see them doing away with the UMD with the PSP-Go, and then right back to it with the PSP2. No time frame, we're firmly in the territory of speculation on everything. Suggestions seem to be they'll keep similar to the 3DS' release schedule, ie announcing it at E3 and releasing late this year or early next, at least in Japan. Also, again, they tried it with the Go, the Go was an absolute disaster. Considering how the PSP didn't fare well outside of Japan, and the PS3 didn't do as well as Sony would've liked, they quite simply cannot afford another disaster. They only got away with the Go because of its margins and the fact its design was basically recycled from the R&D they used for an old PDA (I think it was a PDA anyway) design as it was. A full-on PSP 2? They're going to be wanting to get as far from the Go as possible.

I knew the PS3 wasn't doing all that well, but I had no idea about the Go. It doesn't surprise me either. When you take into consideration the fact that Sony won't let you re-download games or movies if you accidentally lose them, I can't see why anyone would buy it. I have a PS3, but I'm afraid to download any movies or games, because if I lose them, I'm screwed.

Once you've downloaded a game or movie on the PS3, you can download it as many times you like to that console so long as you're logged in to the same account. You can also download it on up to 4 other systems, in case your console was to have problems and you needed to get a new one.

I'm guessing:
- Better Graphics - Better Hardware - A joySTICK -- not a joyNUB - Flip-top Design - More built-in features that *GAMERS* don't fucking need - More nausea-inducing pricetags; pay as much for PSP2 as you would for a PS3
One day, I won't have to worry about price tags. That day is not today.

I'm guessing: - Better Graphics - Better Hardware In that we can FINALLY play PS2 games on the damn thing? But wait, PS2 games are still being released and the system's still being sold. Dammit all. ^^; I guess Sony just won't give up on trying to push the whole MULTIMEDIA SYSTEM on us. In this case, it'll be the portable one. 9___9 Seems to me the Go was an experiment of sorts for the PSP2 to see if the market was ready for whatever features that thing had. Since it was a dud, I think it's safe to say what Varion has been pointing out. ^^ I suppose it's good that Sony's trying to innovate but I think they got the timing wrong. ^^;~ But would they have known IF they didn't put out the Go, I wonder???
