The PS2 version of VM Japan has a small artbook associated with it. Japanese Internet websites refer to the book as 「絢爛絵巻」.
I have the artbook and the front cover displays the following: 「vm japan 絢爛繪巻」 (note the different third Kanji character). I am unable to find the meaning/reading of the third Kanji in this case.
What does it mean and why is it different?
To be absolutely precise, 「繪」 is not what is shown on the book's front cover. The single horizontal line (located right under the roof) is supposed to be connected to the box (the box right above 日) via the middle vertical stroke (i.e. The middle vertical stroke should be just a little longer, enough to reach the horizontal stroke). However, I am unable to replicate this in digital format. Moreover, these four Kanji on the artbook appears to be in a handwritten style, not computer font Kanji, so I might be interpreting them incorrectly (I doubt it though).

Both characters mean exactly the same thing (the former is a simplified form of the latter). The second isn't in the two sets of kanji that are 'approved' for common use so most dictionaries won't include it.

I had a feeling it had something to do with uncommon archaic Kanji, and in this context, I guess it also makes sense. Thanks.
