Or perhaps it has to do with the tools and such for the 360? Maybe it's easier to develop for it? I dunno.
I mean, look at Tales of Vesperia. Bamco Japan probably didn't do it for the sake of releasing it in the West given the wonky track record Bamco US has in releasing Tales games.

I find it strange that people would deny themselves good and fun games solely based on the system that they're being released on. Well, at least they're saving money. ^^ I know people like this. One person suddenly decided one day he was never going to buy another Sony product ever, because of the PS3. Kind of annoying, considering there was a ton of PS2 games that I wanted him to try.

There's no way Falcom will be developing for the Xbox 360, unless their American and European sales are magically MUCH BETTER than their Japanese sales. There's simply not an established Xbox 360 userbase in Japan... from a business standpoint, it would be tantamount to suicide. Honestly, it amazes me that ANY Japanese developer is working with the 360, given how lousy it's doing there. I think the only reason any Japanese developer would bother is if they think their games may do better in the west than in the east. -Tom I think it just depends on the numbers that they are comfortable with. Some of the VN crowd knows that with the 360 fanbase they have a solid # of sales, and perhaps they figure that they couldn't get significantly more going multi-plat. Seems odd, but for smaller devs it happens. I also understand porting 360 from PC is more or less a cakewalk, so there is that. Multiplat is also a fairly good strategy, especially if you are looking at a worldwide release, but it does incur extra costs, so I seriously doubt that Falcom is looking at it, especially since their focus has never been worldwide success. Oddly enough I think that Origins and OiF would be great additions to XBLA or PSN. But I suppose that is neither here nor there.

Not that I profess to know, but I'm convinced the PS3 is more difficult to develop on. I've written code for it on a linux box, and it has a CELL processor that requires tweaking of each line of code with respect to SEVEN CORES if you want to do standard processor functions on it. This means you have to write extra code for each task you want performed to decide what part of the processor will execute it. It makes anything on it blazing fast because it's hand optimized. But...it's hand optimized.
I've never really used a major IDE or compiler for the PS3, though, so maybe it doesn't require the hand tweaking for performance. With the commercial toolkit, you might be right, Wyrd.
I own a PS3 though, and love it.

Something I remember hearing a while back (though I don't remember what the source was, so I can't really vouch for its validity) is that, since Microsoft really wanted Japanese developers to make 360 games, they would pitch in some money for the development costs in exchange for having the game be an exclusive for a certain period of time... and of course, as soon as that exclusive period is up, the publishers would announce and release a PS3 version of the game (with the PS3 being the more popular system over there) -- hence Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia appearing to be 360 exclusives at first but eventually getting ported over with extra features. I haven't really noticed much of that lately, though, probably because consumers and/or Microsoft have caught on. I've seen games released for both platforms at the same time, but I'm guessing that's mostly under the assumption that the game will get translated.

The same is true of PS3 and PSP development, though. The prevailing rumor is that developing for the PS3 is really difficult, but from what I understand, that's basically just anti-Sony propaganda. In point of fact, PS3 and PSP development is virtually identical to PC development and Xbox 360 development, and in many cases, the same code can be used across ALL of those platforms. -Tom Dunno how accurate that is, it has gotten better with time no doubt, but the PS3 was pretty well known as being the more difficult platform to develop for, and ports from PC and the like took more work to get them running at parity. As tools have gotten better its become easier and if you plan for multiplat from the get go it is easier still. Part of the reason that so many games moved to being PS3 as the lead platform was because it was easier to port successfully from PS3 to 360 than vice versa. I know Medal of Honor and Vanquish are two games currently in development that are using this philosophy. Also from what I understood PSP was supposedly cake to develop for relatively speaking, nowhere near the hell that PS2 was as it's a lot more streamlined.

Falcom themselves have stated that part of the reason they started developing for PSP is because of how close it is to developing for PC. -Tom Then they should do 360 XBLA ports! ... oh yeah.. Japan and the 360.. poo

Yes, thank you very much. It's the one console I feel the least pressure to buy and with all the PS3 games that are starting to edge me into 'must buy now' territory, if Falcom for some reason released multiplatform Ys Seven on the 360 by years end, I'd have to buy two new and pricy consoles at about the same time instead of just one that I can easily justify to myself. I'm still very upset that there isn't any news what-so-ever about the PS3 release of Tales of Vesperia being released outside of Japan. Wait, they release Tales games outside of Japan?!

I agree that these games would make great xbla games. I just dont know if Falcom would want to sell these games at a 15 dollar price point.

I think getting someone to localize the old one and put them on steam is much cheaper, easier and probably more profitable. Any 5 years old PC can run them.

From what we've seen so far, I think Falcom is going to try to do ports of the remaining Ys games for PSP. Only then will we see something new, in my opinion.
And yes, yotaka, they do release Tales games outside of Japan (assuming you were being serious).

The only ones that have a chance of coming over are Graces F and Vesperia PS3. VS was mediocre, and Hearts and Innocence apparently didn't sell well.
As for RM2, I'm glad it didn't come over. Namco already screwed me over by making a game that really had no chances of getting localized, and then suddenly it comes out in English. I have two of the same game now.
