With my backlog, I've been pretty iffy about picking up a PSP -- but with the imminent release of Ys Seven, now seems as good of a time to do so as any.
I'm aware of a few PSP games that have gotten my attention over the past few years (FF7 Crisis Core and Brave Story -- should I read the book first? -- come to mind pretty quickly, and I also know of Gurumin), but I'm sure there are several other great games that slipped past me, if for no other reason than because I didn't have the system they're on.
So, what are some of the best games available for the PSP?

Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles Gurumin FF7: Crisis Core FF Tactics: War of the Lions Half-Minute Hero Jeanne d'Arc Megaman Maverick Hunter X Persona 3 Portable Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
There are several other good ones, but these are probably the only ones I would classify as "must-haves".

When they're released overseas, don't forget Phantasy Star Portable 2 and God Eater. Also, Metal Gear Ac!d, Armored Core 3 Portable, and Guilty Gear Judgment are great as well.

Gonna have to disagree on Prinny. That game is terrible, IMO. The jumping is so poorly implemented it ruins the platforming aspect singlehandedly, leaving only the bosses. Some of the bosses are cool, some of them are frustratingly hard. They all have a short time limit though, so no enjoying the cool ones.

Though the reason Prinny's jumping mechanics are as they are is because they were trying to emulate NES game-like jumping mechanics....or so I've heard.

Well, that's just silly, because they didn't build the stages around a jumping mechanic like that. Besides, why would they even do that in the first place? That's like some terrible game trying to excuse itself by saying it was just trying to emulate Superman 64!

I actually loved Prinny in a masochistic sort of way. The jumping didn't bother me that much, and I quickly got used to it.
Honestly, I didn't see any problems with the game aside from how insanely difficult it was.

Not really unfair. A lot of it can be overcome by skill. Just.. lots and lots of skill. >_>

Nah, it's definitely unfair some of the time. And when it's not being unfair, it's being arduous trial and error. Good thing you have 1000 lives, so getting through at some point is inevitable, but that much trial and error simply isn't enjoyable in a platformer. Not to me, at least. I know some people like Prinny though, but I'll never understand why.
As an aside, I heard the second game even kept the horrible jumping mechanic. That's just... baffling. Absolutely baffling.

I'm gonna add some game I personally think are must have's: Atari Classics Evolved Castlevania: Drac X Breath of Fire 3(if you don't already own the PS1 version), I recommend the Euro release, it's in english! Crisis Core Daxter Gradius Collection Parodius Collection(import) Twin Bee Collection(import) Salamander Collection(Import) Gurumin Loco Roco's 1 & 2 Lunar 1 Mega Man Maverick Hunter X Mercury Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops & Peace Walker Star Ocean's 1 & 2 Wild Arms XF Ys 6(though I prefer the PS2 version)
and coming soon: Ys Seven, Oath in Felghana, & Chronicles Legend of Heroes: Tracks(Trails?) in the Sky
Also, I personally enjoy the other LOH games, even thought they are screwed up in various ways. Maybe get them after you got the TitS trilogy, though, you'll be sorely disapointed in them in comparison I'm sure.

Also, personally, the only reason you should want to get Dracula X Chronicles is for Symphony of the Night.

Yeah, and for DCX and Rondo of Blood. The Star Ocean games are some of the games I would classify as good, but not must-haves, same with BoFIII. Actually, SO2 is quite good, but SO1 definitely isn't up to par.

yeah, Star Ocean: First Departure is, at least to me, a completionist's nightmare. I WANT to get every skill maxed, but I don't think that'll happen. I WANT all the characters, but your not allowed to get them all in one run of the game.

Oh, didn't know that the original Rondo of Blood was in the game too.
I... don't like the game's remake of Rondo of Blood. Don't know why, but I couldn't get into it. My friend offered to unlock Symphony of the Night for me. >_>
EDIT: Also, note, I have never played Symphony of the Night prior to unlocking it in Dracula X Chronicles.

People who hate Prinny didn't grow up with Super Ghouls N' Ghosts / Ghosts N' Goblins / etc. -- Prinny is essentially NIS' answer to GnG and an awesome answer at that! People who don't like it just weren't built for hardcore games of that nature anyway, so it's alright in my book if they dismissed it. For those of us who like it, though? More power to us! Seriously though, I wish I could beat the final boss. When I finally own the game, though, I'll run through the other levels first. // A trilogy of TitS? Condensing posts.

Well, I was assuming released games only, otherwise the Ys games and TitS are a given, IMO.
